For an experiment, just walk around your house starting at the front door and check each room and closet. Time yourself and you will find 40 seconds to enter in PCK is getting off easy.

So, here's my deal.

2) Unoccupied house takes virtually no time.

I don't know any other way to say this than just saying you're mistaken. I'm not saying they spend minutes, but the squad moves to the building, they make sure they are in place, then the rush through the door to get into cover maybe pop in a grenade, but maybe not. They still have to look around, position themselves at windows - .

We may only be talking 5 sec, maybe we're talking 10 seconds - if its a two story, it may be more. these guys don't KNOW ithe building is empty, they think it is, but they are going to exercise caution. I fthey don't think it's empty, then it's a whole different approach to entering (actually assaulting), and it will take longer. Now maybe it was different in WWII than it was later, but I can't think they'd do it much differently

I'd say that was a pretty good way to say it.

Unless there is obviously flame attached to the post I take all posts as neutral and in a conversational tone. That's also how I normally send my posts. As if we were all sitting at the cafe having ice tea and talking about PC....so no disrespect is ever taken on my part of reading a post if I can help it. This site is very poster friendly and I don't intend on being a part of anything other than that attitude.

Now about building entry....

All I'm saying is that assaulting a building and moving into an empty one are two different things. And to prove that I'm not the only one that can be wrong here, there are times when you know a building is empty.

So, we have three types of movement involving buildings.

1) Enemy occupied.

2) Possibly enemy occupied.

3) Knowingly not occupied or friendly occupied.

There would be different movement rates for each of them.

That's what I know. I know I'm not waiting to tell my squad what we are doing and how we're doing it when we get there under fire. I know that, for the most part, within seconds of being by the building you will know if it's occupied or not.

I know I want orders that allow me to end my movement in a building.

I'm not wrong about that....they are my wants after all....[:)]

Its going to take more time than 5 seconds to get a squad in a house.   They don't walk 10 abreast through a wide open front door.  Those little Soviet windowns keep out the cold so they aren't easy to leap through.
And the door were designed to keep the wolves out. [:D]

Ye Gods, I cannot believe we are getting hung up about entering a building!
I agree there should be some type of delay but it's up to Erik to decide how long.
Remember, if your infantry are moving through a large village or small town, it's going to take a LONG time to search through all the buildings before they move on. Just hope you have enough time to finish the battle![;)]

Ok, I vote we send Mobius to Russia armed with a tape measure and stop watch. He can then conduct tests on who big each window is, how long it will take the average sized Russian to climb through said window. Ah! he would also have to take with him several Germans to do the same tests [:D]

This is an idea we can support, though I think he'll need to take along one of every nationality that fought in WWII just so we can be sure we have the nationality differences for house entry properly modeled and don't have to make a second trip. While he's there we can give him a list of chained orders to give each "extra" and see how long it take them to understand and comply so that we can nail down those national command delays. Of course, to properly model the Eastern Front we'll ask them all to sleep no more than 4 hours per night for the previous week while locals bang pots and pans outside their hotel rooms. Selected nationalities will then be asked to drink heavily before the testing. [;)]

We'll go about making the travel arrangements...

I can support it to...since Mobius is American I won't be needing to go!!! [;)]

Can I wait until it warms up? Or do I have to time it in both winter and summer?[:D]

Since you're just going to do building entry and not the approach times either season should work.
