I forgot to ask what you have seen in the area currently?  Seem to remember something about CVLs?  If so, that would make a nice treat for you CVs coming up from the south.  You might seperate your old BBs from the CVs NOW and set your CV to full speed.  They would probably arrive a day earlier and jump whatever is in the area.  You can use the BBs for bombardment after the CVs have cleared the area of the Japanese TFs.

Adak Island: captured by 23 Special BF. This has only 30 Aviation Support, so it should mainly be a mid-point to Kodiak and used for naval search. AF is only a level 1.

Ichang: Daily shock attacks go off at 253:1 and a brigade does a banzai charge and is eliminated.

Port Moresby: A deliberate attack reduces the forts to level 1. She will fall in days.

Comments:
Another day, and Kodiak is still mine. The deliberate attack results were so one sided, he may throw in the towel on this operation and see what he can salvage from it. From my perspective, forces around the area grow strong each day and the counter strike gets ready. My 4 CVs should be there in 3 days. A strong bombardment TF will follow as soon as the 2 slow BBs from my CV join another BB, 2CL, and over 10 DDs. The Americal Division arrived at Salt Lake City and was assigned to prep for Kodiak and will march to Seattle for transport. A Rgt at San Fran is loading for Kodiak vs the South Pacific. The 7th Division is prepping for Cold Bay. I'm still short another Coronado from upgrading a PBY to them, but the amount of the Canadian Bde that made it to Kodiak was a lot for 1 day.
Meanwhile, my transports continue to head for Panama for refueling before heading for French Polynesia. I have my two American FP equipped subs are down there for the possible visit by KB which has been MIA for some time. [&:]

This all SOUNDS good.  I would check your notes as to the last time the KB was spotted.  Wouldn't do to have a counterstroke prepared at Kodiak only to lose the entire Fleet.  That would be BAD....

Your chances of holding in the Philippines to at least the historical surrender date is pretty good. How are your supplies there?

Its been a long time since KB has been seen. In regards to Kodiak area, next turn I will move a second PBY squadron to both Midway and Dutch Harbor. I've seen the naval search routine leave me in the lurch before. [:(]

Luzon is around 65k, but this last turn supply was moved some to the outer bases by the AI. I have over 100k on the island, but getting them back to Manila for the siege will not happen.

I have gotten supplies and troops to Hawaii as I though my CVs were heading to the South Pacific. Those AK/AP will be arriving at San Fran and after a brief repair period, will head north to reinforce the Alaskan theater. I will focus the American Fleet here for the next month or so as I will try to hold from Umnak Island east. The Russian subs, DDs, and MSW will help.

Have you thought about--dare I say--going over to the OFFENSIVE in the Philippines?  Allied players always think about running and hiding there.  It could pay BIG dividends if you were able to knock him about some there.
 
Good move on the PBYs.  Can they be based in Unmak?  Might be good to spread them out some...

Kodiak Island has transports shot down in increasing numbers. One Russian PBY squadron is now out of planes and will be sight seeing in Canada for some time to come. [:D] Damian writes that he is going to evac his troops from Kodiak which may explain why KB is here. I've slowed down the full speed run of my CVs and they will head to Prince Rupert for re-fueling. I will look to place them NE of Kodiak. The AV on Kodiak has increased to 150. PBYs at Cold Bay will transport a days worth of the BF and Rgt to Anchorage to have a cadre to rebuild, if needed. A PBY was moved to Anchorage and will pick up part of the BF at Dutch Harbor that will probably be overrun in the next few days.

Per John's request, here is the force disposition around the Aleutian Islands.
Umnak Island - forts just reached level 1; AV 55 from an EAB & 4th Rgt. AF is still 0.

Yep - sweep will do it (escort won't). It also has the advantage that you are fighting over your own base so pikots that are shot down are more likely to survive

Damian is shocked (and so am I) at the results of his counter move to my daily training runs. I would like any feedback from players who have played with Russia active this early on about the quality of their planes. Is this result normal?? The MIGs are flying at max altitude and his planes cannot reach them to bomb the AF and gain experience (they are above 65 for most), while the escorts are only from mid 50s to 60 in experience.

Comments:
Screen shot shows from west to east - his 2 CVLs covering his invasion of Dutch Harbor, his replenishment TF, and KB to the east providing protection. Nearest to Kodiak are his transports with troops reloaded and heading west. I believe he will take Dutch Harbor in the next day or two and land those troops there. He will move in supply to rebuild them and prep them for Umnak Island and/or Cold Bay. KB will operate out of Dutch Harbor for some time until he can build up enough LBA. However, it is still winter up here and building AF and/or forts cost more and take more time. I will use my 4 CVs to protect my transport as they get in and out of Kodiak and/or Anchorage area. It will a good game of chess up here (move and counter move)

A5M4s and Nates really aren't a match for moderately experienced I-16 Type 24s. Why? Well, the I-16 carries cannon and the Japanese planes don't, the I-16 is much more survivable if hit by the MG-armed Japanese planes and it has a significant edge in terms of speed.

Since the A2A combat algorithm is so heavily skewed toward speed the I-16 is better vis a vis the Claudes and Nates than it was in real life. On the other hand the I-16 Type 24 was a better plane than the conventional wisdom allows.
 
What your opponent REALLY needs to worry about is what happens when you get those MiG-3s up to 75 Exp. MiG-3s are game-transforming planes just like the Pe-2, B-17 and Ki-44 III. The MiG-3 is far and away the best fighter available to ANY nation until the first experimental P-51s roll off the production line in September 1942.

What your opponent REALLY needs to worry about is what happens when you get those MiG-3s up to 75 Exp. MiG-3s are game-transforming planes just like the Pe-2, B-17 and Ki-44 III. The MiG-3 is far and away the best fighter available to ANY nation until the first experimental P-51s roll off the production line in September 1942.

Looks like I need to teach some of my pilots how to speak Chinese. [:D] I have 23 more MIGs in the pool, so I'll look to slowly upgrade the small 10 plane squadrons from I-16s. Nice to see I get 45 per month.

SHCH 129 (39/48) get one direct hit at Dutch Harbor.
He uses his Kates and Vals from KB on naval/ASW search and I get three damaged subs as a result (SHCH 137 - 47/59; SHCH 128 - 48/32; Grampus - 54/75). I can see how others have gotten upset about the hit rate of planes on subs. Within the confines of the SRA, I can understand. But in the wide open Pacific....[&:] [8|]

Russia:
Nikolaevsk na Amur - Betty x 43. I think he saw aircraft there that were my B-17Ds. They were on their way to Australia and had landed here for a few days, but have moved on to Calcutta before heading to Perth area and beyond.

China:
Sinyang - I had started to withdraw my troops, but 3 x Field Armies did not get out. I get 600 rifle squads per month and I have been using them all . Thus, 1200 new squads have been added to my forces. If I could get some better supply here, I would be doing well.

Dutch Harbor - My last sub, SHCH 126 (31/21), gets one direct hit by his ASW ships.
Grayback (8/30) gets hit by KB's patrols. As a result of the number of hits over the last two days, I've moved my subs to protect any further attack on Kodiak while 3 or 4 fleet subs will try to get to Umnak Island to evac an fragment. With KB and 2 CVLs operating south of Cold Bay, I need to pull back and rotate in fresh subs. Many on station now have added sys damage due to a full speed run from Pearl and/or need fuel. One sub tender is headed to Prince Rupert.

Russia:
After Nemo's comments about the superiority of the MIG's early in the war, my most experienced group go on a sweep to add to their kills. My first "ace" is a Russian pilot.

This is a good result for me as they all retreat (remains from Palembang) across the strait to Merak/Serang (this mod has a ferry system across many of the islands). [:D] I had set the slowest LCU to Batavia and the rest to follow. There are no friendly bases in southern Sumatra, so the AI would retreat them south. I will give them a few days to rest and then the BFs (whats left of them) will go to Tjilitjap for evac by sub transport to Perth (the Dutch Aviation Rgt from Batavia is already mostly evac to Exmouth). I need more BF and their Aviation Support in Australia. Long term wise, they will hopefully be replaced by American BF/Aviation Rgt and loaded for a trip to India and then my patrol planes will fly them to China "IF" Damian does not take the SE corner of India by the end of 42. The infantry will go to Soerabaja for some R&R and prep for the final holdout at Malang.

Comments:
American CVs drink up all the fuel at Vancouver and will head for Prince Rupert. They will be followed by my SC TF and transports. How I will get troops to Kodiak and Anchorage area are still in the planning stage. I have a Canadian BF leaving Prince Rupert on fast transports (full speed over 15 for each) with escorts for Seward. They will need 3 days to get there (kind of a trial balloon to see how he reacts). He has a sub at Juneau and an ASW TF of Russian DDs and American have formed at Vancouver.
A second Coronado squadron was formed (had to wait 6 days for the 12th plane to come in as a replacement). The patrol squadrons at Prince Rupert will finish transporting in the rest of the 15th Canadien Bde to Kodiak. Then, help get the engineer rgt at Skagway to Anchorage. I need to get Anchorage AF 3(7) 25% and then Kodiak AF 3(3)to level 4 to base my B-26A Marauders (carry torpedoes out to 6 hexes).

Are you thinking of a fast raid my your CVs coupled with a bombardment?  If the KB moves back you could probably get away with it but if not are you willing to risk an engagement?  What would it be  4 US CV vs. 6 Jap CV + a few CVL?  It would probably be ugly but I bet (in exchange for a couple of your flattops) you might be able to knock out some of his CV and perhaps sink one or two.

I will need to change my Preference settings for ground combat to the quickest as they will be used a lot in the coming days. [:D]

The major resupply and build up for Anchorage area and Kodiak move along and I may have seen KB move away to the SW from Dutch Harbor. I will proceed with caution and have sent in a single AK to Kodiak.

I'm a little sleep deprived due to work keeping me out to 5am, so when I did the turn today, I had a "duh" moment. Most patrol planes in the western part of the Pacific are being sent to evac LCUs from Luzon (EAB, 2 x USN BF, 2 x Pp BF are priority #1) to China. With this mod, Wuchow in south China is a port. Thus, patrol planes from India are sent here while those from southern SRA/Australia are sent to Manila and Bataan. I need construction type engineers and aviation support badly in China. I could have been doing this for some time. [&:][8|]
Meanwhile, since I still own Davao with a Philippine division there and Ambonia, some patrol planes will form a air bridge. They will first go transported to Ambonia and then to Darwin. I will have two Philippine divisions in Australia that will be built back up and should be ready for '43.

Right now I want to ensure that both Anchorage area (BFs, Av Rgt, Canadain Bde, EAB) and Kodiak (large BF, small BF, Eng, EAB, 125 Rgt, Americal Division) are reinforced sufficiently. Next, I have a division prepping for Cold Bay and will use my CVs and SC TF to suppress Dutch Harbor while it unloads.

I get CV Hornet in just over 30 days. It would have been 5 Japanese CVs and 2 CVLs vs 4 American CVs. I have taken off a SBD from each and added another fighter squadron. Only one needs to be upgraded to F4F-4 Wildcats with the increased range (survivability vs striking power at this time). I don't know if Damian knows that I have the same strike range as he does with TBs. My DB have a 1 hex advantage over Vals.

With the number of carriers he starts with and gets, its more important that I have "fleet in being" than a confrontation with his carriers. Plus, he has an idea of where my CVs are, but nothing definite. [;)]
