A British unit marches into Jessore, and gets rudley pushed back out. To our surprise its a British Division!!!!
I had no idea one was that close, and don't even know what the 70th division is. Lucky for me I had just
moved another division to Jessore, I was not going to lose it a second time.

The airwar has started again, Scott is bombing Nadi with various planes and I swept Suva then defended. These battles are not massive but continue. One of my RO's tagged an AP at Suva. There were no troop lost signals so I am thinking he is pulling out units or fragments.

David Lee "Tex" Hill accomplished an extraordinary feat
Tex Hill has become the Allies first double ace. The feat
was done while flying the P-40E. Tex Hill is a pilot stationed

We assualted on the 22nd with a massive force and figured the chinese would hightail it home. It was our Samurais that had massive casualties. We will have to skin this rascal differently.

Scott is still building up Adak all is quiet.

Central Pacific

We found out Scott was using Christmas Island as a staging base. A sub appearance and 9 plus ships head out. We sink one maybe two with Subs.


South Pacific

Ugly from the Japanese side. We brought in two convoys of support troops with little cover and subs, bombers shreaded them 1/2 the troops made it to land. The air war continues but we had a major setback on the 28th when the POW and Mississippi showed up and blasted the airfield. The troop count at Suva went from 20 to 21. This area could be our Guadalcanal!!!!! Where is the KB to defend. Well they are elsewhere.

We bomb Darwin airfield almost daily, a few wirraways fly out, it is almost closed. We have about equal number of troops at Katherine, almost time for an assualt. LB-30's bomb our armoured unit at Daly Waters, they are coming from the east. One is lost occasionally to a stray zero showing up or just the distance.

The Dutch have all been pushed into Tilijtap sp? you know the small town on the west coast. This is their last stand. All 3 divisions are in town and will shock tommorrow. The Java cleanup has taken to long. Question is what to do with those divisions after????

We have just pushed the Allied forces out of Lashio into the jungles. I doubt any will see their homeland.
We are marching up the road to Mythinkia sp? as this is the last base. We feel it is undefended. That leaves only India or China as these forces next objective.

India

This area has turned into a fluid battle. We still have large forces in Calcutta as does the allied command but we also have bypassed Calcutta around the south and hold several towns. I will post a map in a few days as more allied troops are arriving and the battles are starting to occur more frequent. We like mobile battlefields. The new reinforcement convoy was greatly needed as these troops are now moving out.

The 70th division was routed again but has found its leggs and is running away faster then we pursue!

The 18th division is at Cox's bazaar and is bombed daily

KB

High command a month ago had to make a decision on what was our most important objective. Suva or India. The decision came to India (we consider reconn in force). We needed to get more troops and supplies or we would recieve an early eviction notice. With the Saratoga up there possibly with the British CV's the Mini KB could not cover the landings and our airfields could not ward off these forces.
Thus the KB was sent north to cover the landings. While the mini KB provided direct coverage the KB sat west in the middle of the Ocean hiding and waiting for the CV's to try and stop our landings. As the landings went unhindered we finally moved out towards Ceylon, we did not have recon of the area but every time a sub tried to send a Glenn it was shot down.

On the 26th as we approached Ceylon from the east we spotted and attacked two ASW ships that had been harrasing our subs.

The KB had port attack set as secondary but did not launch at Colombo, but the attack was small enough that we felt the allied command
would believe the mini KB was moving.

Blenhiems also flew out but none made it to our CV's. Thus Scott was alerted but I was hoping he figured this was the mini KB as I pulled the mini KB back 2 days before to leave this impression.

The KB swung to the S side of Ceylon the British were prepared and launched thier attack of torpedo planes and bombers. Some made it thru to let Scott know today was the real deal. These battles happened in severe Storms

As all the planes belonging to the Saratoga showed up on the lost list due to Op's or Ground, it is definatly gone. I believe since no F4F's were in the air this ship must have been in drydock or pier undergoing upgrades! Japanese high command is drinking saki in plenty with the elimination of the first enemy CV.

Begs the question, where are those British CV's?

On the April 28th the KB swings to the west of Colombo and catches fleeing transports and launches another strike on the harbor confirming the Saratoga is no more. Many transports find a watery grave.

I must admit as the mini KB found on its early raid of Colombo, the AA is fierce. The allied airforce has been depleted with the airbattles over calcutta and Chitagong thus there was not much to defend this area. One our our pilots became an Ace in one day!

I like the new AE combat routines that on the 27th only a minor strike on a minor target vs a full launch in Witp, also the 28th there was a good distribution to all targets

Ceylon
A little Indian boy walks along the docks, he carried his dirty rag that he used to shine shoes for money. The last few days had been very bad and it didn’t look like any one would want their shoes shined. What was left of the harbor was a smoking ruins. The big aircraft carrier was underwater and twisted metal. The Japanese and flown in attacks for 3 days and every ship that was not sunk went under. The Americans and British had said they were coming to push the Japanese all the way back to Japan. It looks like they were wrong. He pondered some leaflets the Japanese had dropped. Join the Co-prosperity sphere it read, hmmm maybe they would want their shoes shined.

Jamshedpur India
The 4th tank regiment had pulled back to Jamshedpur from chasing a small force, the 20th Indian division was marching from Calcutta area to take the unoccupied city. Sallies had bombed the 20th on its march but still it continued on. On the 30th it entered town to scare off against the lone armored unit. The 4th tanks calls for help were not unheaded and on May 1st the 7th tank regiment arrived to help bolster the defense. The arrival was very much needed as the 20th launched its assault!

Month Summary April 1942
The month of April started off bad with setback near Suva. The entire month Suva was a troubled area for us as the allied command is making a determined stand and they have more air/sea assets, this month as I sent the KB to India to secure the reinforcements. The month turned at the very end when the KB arrived and sank the CV Saratoga, CA Indianapolis plus 3 DD and 19 transports. In addition to punishing the British torpedo planes. India is what I consider a recon in force. I went in with no allusions of conquering the country, Chittagong was my main target with Diamond/Madras/Ceylon as alternates depending on what I found. The landings were stalled at Calcutta till I started moving forces around the south, now I have broken out and am expanding. Scott is bringing forces from Madra/Delhi and Chittagong area so I desperately needed the last troops to counter this and still put a hold on Caluctta. Not sure where India is going but its fun at the moment. Our airforce has put a hurt on the allies as they try to come after us. But as May begin’s I realize my dominance will soon be over. In the north Adak is turning into a formidable base and we are building our two to counter. Scott sent a CV into this area and it chased a convoy, or was spotted by a convoy as he may have intended on raiding the northern islands. Regardless I spotted it early and saw it approach until he finally turned around. The central pacific has been dead quite. In Australia we are bombing Darwin daily and have invested Katherine. We also have begun bombing Katherine. Not sure how long it will take for Scott to bring in reinforcements, but I believe I will have this area secured before then. Java finally fell and I have 3 divisions to decide what to do with 1)secure the area 2)support northern autralia 3)India 4)Suva 5) Perth or some new frontier.

May 2nd Northern Australia, a few scouts left at Port Hedland radio in the Allies are landing an Australian Bde, it had been abandoned shortly
after capture, the scouts began a long trek east.

Cpt Koizumi of the I-20 had been on a drought, after his successful last trip he had patroled around western Australia to no avail. Finally he shifted to south of Perth where on the 3rd enemy ships were detected. Quickly the experiance crew slipped under water and moved to attack position. He smiled as he spotted his prey. 6 torpedoes went out of the tubes. 2 hits he could see but only one explosion. Dam faulty torpedoes, if only the Americans had his problems. He quickly turns to his second in command. Alert High Command we have hit an enemy Battleship, with one torpedo there may be other ships in the area!

The captain of I-162 had heard I-20's report the day before and was on the lookout for shipping. Apparently the allies had slipped a convoy of troops past his station and captured Port Hedland, his job don't let it happen again. His soundman alerted him to a lot of screw sounds nearby. They went to periscope depth and his eyes filled with delight. In a rush he quickly launches 2 torpedoes at the carrier. Both miss, but the intel for High command was more important. Apparently the allied command is getting aggressive in Australia.

SW of Perth
I-20 moved towards Perth hoping to catch the Ramilies heading in for repair. Picking of the sounds of enemy ships they prepare to engage. The destroyer screen is heavy, and the launched salvo misses a destroyer. Retribution is quick as the Destroyers find and force I-20 to the surface. The crew fights bravely but as the shells pour in the order is given to abandon ship.

The air war continues over India. I am sweeping vs Calcutta. He is bombing my troops as they try to expand out. I need to bring in more fighters. I have my second operational airbase. I'm beginning to believe the allies cannot run out of Hurricanes and P-40's they keep showing up.

China

I have invested Changsa, but both sides look at each other. He has reinforced but its a battle of manuevar at the moment. In the north we have reached sining (northwest of oilfields) the chinese retreated there. Soon we will wrest control. In the south we have begun advancing on the towns. Thus we are moving in north, central and south.

South Pacific

Allied forces bomb my troops in Fiji, we have withdrawn our planes to rebuild.

We torpedoed a transport between San Fransico and Pearl, but thats 1st sighting in a few weeks.

We had a division mauled on a shock attack across the river at Howrah the town NW of Calcutta. I have other units that have also moved in but they squared off against 3 indian divisions. At Dacca a regiment and tank unit are pushed out also for losses. He has reclaimed some of the small bases I captured and moved on from. I need to consolidate but the air war over calcutta has swung back in my favor after 3 days of heavy sweeps, Oscars/ Zero's. We need to subjugate this area. He has bombed my fringe units but some wellingtons ran into Nicks and stopped that nonsense.

Calcutta is now surrounded no more supplies can get in. The bleeding shall begin. Will these be a singapore, Leningrad or Stalingrad???

I brought back my fighters to Suva and they bloodied the allies on the 12th, there were no allied flights on the 13th!!!! 1st time in about a month.
The allied unit count has grown to 24 [X(]. This is definatly a hotspot for both sides.

We have infiltrated around Changsa and we almost have it surrounded as there are 28 units there. Not sure if the allied command will pull out or let us mutilate there premier forces in the area! Here is a map of the current quagmire that is China.

We have no house rules on artillary, awaiting patch 2, but I have not withdrawn a single artillary unit from Manchuria. So it has played some factor but not significant.

Lt Nakajima lands his Mavis and quickly pulls toward the shore, troops stream out trying to get on. The allied forces have already taken the base and these remnant troops are being withdrawn to fight another day. As the last soldier climbs aboard, he turns the plane and accelerates. As climb they peer down on the island as the last of the Japanese troops are captured or killed by the Americans. This is the first defeat for the Co-prosperity sphere.

Suva
The air battle rages over Suva, every few days. The zero’s kill P40’s P39 at a 2 to 1 ratio. The allied command does not bombard nor do the Japanese. They just stare at each other while the airwar rages above.

After 2 of my troops were evicted from Dacca we have moved more closer. Scott is moving forces from Chittagong towards Dacca and it appears this area will be another front. I already have 4 and need to clear this area out to focus on Calcutta and the area around there. The reinforcements have stabilized our front and the only action is in the air. We secured the airspace of Calcutta only to have storms shut us down from bombing the airfield the last 3 days. The artillery fires at Calcutta daily inflicting 150 to 400 casualties, we get around 100 casualties in return from counterfire. He has only bombarded once in the last week, this may signal low supplies.

There are still around 25 transports or small ships trapped at Calcutta we have just begun also bombing these. Probably by the end of the month the harbor will be clear, they are trapped.

The citizens of Calcutta began to worry more each day if not joining the Co-prosperity sphere was the right decision. At first there many indian, british and Australian troops came to their aid and stop the initial rush of the Japanese. Since then the Japanese began bombarding daily, with occasional shocks to close down retreat routes. Now they find themselves practicaly surrounded and the airforce then once protected their airspace has fleed. The airfield has turned into a shambles and ships burn day and night in the harbor. Their thoughts turn towards the advantages of joining the Co-prosperity as siding with the british does not seem like prosperity.

May 23rd thru 26th,

India

The last 3 days have been pretty much duplicates of each other. The only real action of note, is bombardments in India, he hits me at Howrah, I hit him at Calcutta, we have not moved into Dacca, as he has troops sw of us that may move up. Calcutta now is defenseless and the harbor is almost clear of shipping, the airfield is a wreck.

I bombard Changsa, and two other towns, I am moving up fromt he south. Soon Chungking will be flanked. I will post a picture soon, not much changed from last except changsa surrounded.


Australia

The allied command has a couple of units running around south of my forces. But the main action is at Darwin where I have finally moved into. Scott tried a shock attack when one armoured unit moved in, but found out the others were close behind! This was actually a close thing as the I feared the armoured unit was to far ahead.

Historical Fact
Hyūga , named for Hyūga Province in Kyūshū, was an Ise-class battleship of the Imperial Japanese Navy laid down by Mitsubishi on 6 May 1915, launched on 27 January 1917 and completed on 30 April 1918. She was initially designed as the fourth ship of the Fusō-class, but was heavily redesigned to fix shortcomings.

Hyūga was extensively updated and reconstructed from 1926-1928 and 1934-1936. After the disastrous Battle of Midway, the Japanese Navy considered plans to convert all battleships besides Yamato and Musashi into aircraft carriers. Ultimately, the Navy decided that only the oldest and least useful battleships should be converted into hybrid battleship/carriers. Hyūga was reconstructed at the Sasebo Navy Yard from 1 May-1 October 1943. Hyūga and her sister ship Ise had their two aft 356 mm (14 in) turrets (784 t (864 short tons) each) and barbettes (730 t (800 short tons) each) removed. They were replaced by a small flight deck and hangar to launch a squadron of aircraft. To compensate for the weight loss and to preserve metacentric height, the flight deck was covered with 203 mm (8 in) of concrete. A single elevator was fitted.

Anti-aircraft weapons were also added to better fight off aerial attack. Her complement of 14 Yokosuka D4Y dive bombers and 8 Aichi E16A seaplanes were catapult-launched, but landed either on conventional carriers or land bases. They could also be hoisted back onboard by using cranes. Because production of aircraft was severely depleted by then, Hyūga never carried the full complement.


Hyūga participated in the Battle off Cape Engaño in October 1944, commanded by Rear Admiral Kusagawa Kiyoshi, and was later attacked by American aircraft from the aircraft carriers USS Essex, Ticonderoga, Randolph, Hancock, Bennington, Monterey and Bataan at Nasake-jima, south of Kure, from 24 July-28 July 1945 and her crew ran the ship aground in shallow waters.[1]

She was removed from the Navy List on 20 November 1945. From 2 July 1946-4 July 1947, she was raised and broken up by the Kure Dry-dock of Harima Zosen Yard.

Minesweeper of the Bangor class

The RCN had four minesweepers in 1939, Canadian-built copies of the RN's Basset class, and consideration was being given to building more of these when the Naval Staff learned of the RN's newer Bangor class. The Bangor was larger and faster, had much greater endurance, and burned oil unlike the coal-burning Bassets. Accordingly, twenty-eight Bangor class minesweepers were ordered in 1940 and twenty more under subsequent programs. Another six, built at Vancouver for the RN, were loaned to the RCN for the duration of the war. Ten Bangors of the first program were of a smaller, diesel-engine variety and one of these, Granby, survived until 1966. Most of the Bangors were named after Canadian towns and cities; the rest after bays.
Like the corvettes, the Bangors were small enough to be produced at shipyards on the Great Lakes, and sixteen were built at Toronto and Port Arthur. The Toronto yard turned out six others of the class for the RN. As enemy mines were laid only once (1943) in Canadian waters, the Bangors were used principally as escorts to coastal shipping or as local escorts to ocean convoys. Sixteen of them, however, assisted in sweeping the approaches to Normandy before D Day, and stayed to help clear German and Allied minefields in the Channel for some months afterward.
