The rest of the 33rd lands without issues and the artillery force that split from the Pearl Support Force also lands, accompanyed by the BB TF here - throughtout the day as it unloads the BBs pound Lahaina causing minor casualties and disruption to the troops here - at last.

The cruiser force again finds S-35 but cant attack, she then runs into the BB tf unloading the artillery forces and is hit 10 times in the shallow water, debris is seen floating on the surface.

Yank has either changed tactic or run out of bombers at Pearl - the only air offensive in the area was 2 runs by B17s escorted by fighters, no Dauntless, no Havocs, no Jolos - 1 bomb hit the Ise and 4 B17s were damaged.

Engineers and the rest of the 4th Inf regiment unload at Kona unhindered by any attacks from the air or sea. I can see now that Hilo is garrisoned - 3 days of recon from Johnston showed it as empty.

The shock attack at Lahaina produces odds of 5:1, thank god for the 33rd Division - 2265 Japanese go as casualties but 26665 Allied prisoners are taken. The place has 40k supplies and 2k fuel - this will be shipped in from Midway, where there is 40k tonnes on ships waiting for this very day, the airfield and port are undamaged. 2 single Bettys are flown in to recon Pearl and Mavis are flown in to provide naval searches - the US CVs have to be somewhere. Zeros will land here next turn to provide CAP over the Emporers latest and most important aquisition so far - Lahaina falls at last.

Kona, undefended also falls, the engineers are already ashore expanding the airfields here and at Lahaina. The garrison across the island consists of 2 units - i dont know what they are so the 20th Inf regiment fresh from Lahainas fall is loading on ships to come back to Kona and provide garrison duties. I dont have enough AV support or engineers to build both up simultaneously so will wait until Kona is built and then will take Hilo - nothing else will land here from the Allies - Sallys and Bettys will be ready to sink any approaching ships.

All empty transport ships are immediately sent back to Midway, and any damaged ships are grouped and sent to Midway also.

Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo

The evil force of cruisers struck again in the night, an AK unloading a small SNLF unit at Madjene was caught unawares and sunk with all hands aboard.

24 Nells attack the cruiser force in the morning - all miss bless them - ive really come to expect nothing else from them now - ill check the fatigue and morale levels next turn.

In the afternoon 27 Nells attack again and.................. miss [:@] - idiots.

Troops at Donggala land at the undefended base and will take it next turn, ships are also 1 turn out from 3 more bases around Celebes.

In the south undefended Pare Pare falls.

North, on the north coast of Borneo at Beaufort the 91st naval guards attack the 108th RN base force that has entered the area, odds come out at 1:1 but only the base force takes casualties - 31, and stays put.

The 8th JAAF AF Btn takes its 5th base in Luzon at Iba - this is it now - the engineers are looking at Clark Field with 32 units present - they will wait here for the main attack.

Malaya & Burma

Plans are still afoot to move the paras to Moulemein and drop again in northern Burma - Pegu has 13 units here, but Rangoon, recently reconned shows aircraft but no garrison, i will recon more.

Thai forces and the 143rd Inf regiment head north to start the attacks into Burmas heartland.

The race to Kuala Lumpur continues.

In General

Looking at the IJ base list there is a massive amount of bases with 15-18k resources on - i will start setting up CS convoys, maybe single ship to start emptying and shipping these bases.

Good luck on this. In AE, I am finding it's much harder to launch invasions outside of LBA range like you are doing, mostly because KB's strike force is only good for a couple rounds, due to torp limits or just flat out losses. Not to mention fuel. But the biggest problem is the Torpedo limitations. It's a looooong way back to Truk from Hawaii to get more torps.

Yup I think the torpedo limits might change people's tactics - does for me. If I'm pretty sure there are no enemy carriers around, then I switch to bombs. In fact, I'd say bombs are my default. But if I think enemy carriers might appear then of course I'll be on torpedoes, but will try to back away from non-carrier enemy shipping so I do not spend all my torps sinking merchant ships. Fuel and Sorties are not much different except for the requirements to replenish, but they last as long as they used to (roughly) torpedos is the big change for me.

Pacific

At Lahaina the PT boats come out to play - they attack a 3 DD ASW force, fire is exchanged on both sides but no hits are landed. In the afternoon the 2 TFs sight each other again but withdraw.

A second PT boat attack hits the big BB force - 2 PTs are hit for no damage to the Japanese ships but the Ise sinks the DD Asakaze afetr colliding with her 3 times.

The SS Plunger is seen again but no attack can be carried out.

11 B17s put up a determined attack on the Naval forces at Lahaina but all 11 are damaged by the AA of the BBs here and no bombs are released. This is the second turn without any other bombers been used - Yank is either pulling them out or is resting and repairing.

36 Zeros land at Lahaina and will sweep Pearl at 21k feet next turn - 80 Bettys arrive and are put on Naval attack. Engineers are already 25% into taking Lahaina upto a level 4 airfield, at Kona the engineers fully disembarked are just getting started on taking the airfield to level 2. 40 more Zeros are at Jonston Is waiting to hop over to Lahaina.

At Truk the single AP with the whole 6th Base Force on comes across the SS Triton, the sub launches 6 torpedoes but all miss.

In the HI at Hiroshima, an xAKL hits a mine in the harbour - sneaky, very sneaky.

Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo

Off the coast of Madjene the evil cruisers bomnbard the recently taken base, angered at the missed opportunity to sink the invaders. Minor damage is inflicted on the troops and the port.

In the morning the naval forces of the Emporer do what the air force cannot - the Kongo TF meets the evil cruisers at Madjene - the CL Tromp is sunk by a torpedo, the De Ruyter and 2 DDs retreat on fire, and the Boise, Houston and Marblehead take minor damage. For the IJN cruisers Kashii and Jintsu are burning and the DD Oshio is heavily damaged, the fabled Hibiki is also present and she is undamaged after sinking the CL Tromp, Kongo and Haruna are hardly scratched. The Kongo TF heads north towards Balikpapan to try and intercept the evil cruisers if they retire in this direction. A back up cruiser force heads there also, subs at Soerbaja are put on alert and the blind bombers don their blindfolds again.

10 Nells attempt to take on the evil cruisers and they dont disappoint - all miss and 7 return home damaged. In return 17 139WH-3s attack the Kongo force, no hits land and 4 bombers return damaged.

Troops land at Gorontalo and Loewoek in the Celebes - the North is now Japanese, the idea is to take all bases now except Maccassar and Kendari and then take these with force causing surrenders and not retreats.

The Samarinda Invasion force leaves Tarakan - the 65th, the 124th, and the Guards Brigade, 2 base forces and the 23rd air HQ head out under a large cruiser escort. They will land at Samarinda and as discussed will march to Balikpapan.

The naval guards attack at Beaufort again and get 2:1 but the RN base force still stay to fight it out.

Undefended Dongola falls.

I do like how surface combat assets are important now in AE, at least in the early war. Battleships like Kongo make a pretty good job of clearing away the Dutch cruisers. They are also invaluable against Houston/Boise right at the beginning.

Pacific

S-23 attacks an empty xAK leaving Lahaina but misses.

SS Cuttlefish is discovered by one of the ASW forces off Lahaina and suffers 1 hit.

The 20th infantry regiment arrives at Kona and provides garrison forces for the new base.

At Lahaina the new airfield is at 50%, and at Kona its moving much slower - more construction battallions will be sent here and a base force.

21 Zeros sweep Pearl from Lahaina - for 2 destroyed Zeros the Allies lose 7 fighters - excellent odds - 63 fighters came up in all - if the report is right 56 remain and no more can be flown in. In the afternoon 6 more Zeros sweep and destroy two more fighters for 1 loss - 55 fighters.

9 Bettys attack the CA San Francisco at Pearl, but unescorted the bombers lose 3 of their number - the CAP here needs surpressing much more before bombers go in - they are sent back to Johnston to make room for more Zeros which land next turn. Another 26 arrive this turn to sweep and escort 27 Nells that couldnt leave the base.

What looks to be the last of the B17s try an attack on the Fuso at Lahaina - they are all damaged for no hits.

The Maizuru 2nd SNLF lands at Canton Is - the shock attack yields 8:1 odds, the island falls as the empire spreads across the Pacific - Palmyra is reconned this turn.

At Suva an AMc is sunk by the I-17 stalking outside the harbour.

Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo

SS Seawolf strikes again off Borneos north eastern coast but misses the xAK passing by.

Clark field has burst back into life, 34 Nates sweep the base to prevent any further enthusiam - 20 fighters meet them and destroy 4 Nates - 32 more Nates are sent to Aparri to help out.

Undefended Gorontalo and Loewoek fall.

The evil cruisers have disappeared, they are not headed to Balikpapan and were not spotted by subs at Soerbaja.

SNLFs will be loaded next turn to land at Legaspi and work their way up the Phillipines.

Malaya

The TF of transport ships at Kota Bharu waiting for the Kuantan refugees is attacked by the Dragon and the Durban - it takes a while but the TF manage to escape eventually losing an E class ship and 1 xAK.

I will shift some Lillys back west to guard this area if Yank thinks he can sail ships up the peninsular without risk.

Malacca has been occupied by 8 Allied units - the 18th Division is here and will wait for the attack to assess the assault values. Kuala Lumpur should be reached next turn.

The paras are gradually making their way to Moulemein - Rangoon still shows as empty

Pacific

29 Zeros sweep Pearl, destroying 7 fighters for 1 loss - the combat report shows the CAP at 15k feet while i fly at 21-23k feet.

24 Bettys attack cruisers at Pearl but none hit - the remaining CAP big enough to put the bombers off their aim, 4 are destroyed, 8 damaged.

More Zeros should land at Lahaina next turn, and the air field should increase from 3 - 4 - i want the CAP a little more surpressed before i start escorting bombers over Pearl. The engineers at Kona wake up and the airfield starts expanding here.

The mini KB leaves Tokyo to provide extra Zero presence over Pearl - im confident Pearls air will be shut down in a week and then the ground bombing campaign can commence.

Recon at Palmyra reports noone present - but this was the case for Canton and yet a small garrison was found defending the island - ships will approach the island but not unload to check the presence of any garrison here.

AV support companies and construction battallions are been rounded up and prepped in HI to head for the islands chosen to be at the perimeter of the eastern Pacific defenses.

Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo

31 Nates sweep Clark and meet 6 P-39Ds and P40Es, 1 Nate is lost - they are too low at 9k ft, i will sweep them from higher.

It is a similar story at Manilla - 21 Nates meet 14 fighter and lose one, again from too low a height - they will come in higher next time.

The Samarinda Invasion force should land next turn, it is LRCAPed from Tarakan by Oscar 1cs.

The landing forces at the small bases around the Celebes are being reloaded for the second round of invasions that should take the remainder of the bases leaving just Kendari and Maccassar. All the garrison forces, base forces and AV support troops are waiting at Manado.

On Luzon undefended Cabanatuan falls

China

By luck or design both Yank and i have tidied the lines in China, basically im on the east hes in the west, the front is on the main railway line with Ichang in the middle, in the South IJA forces move west towards Canton, and in the North they move south to Kaifing.

Malaya & Borneo

The 18th Div stays in Malacca to defend the base, and will shock attack the 8 previously defeated units here. In the north the 5th Div, the 2nd Tank Regiment and some engineers arrive in undefended Kuala Lumpur. Force B is 78 miles short of Kuala Lumpur to bolster the attack.

Pacific

Disaster strikes in the night - the sneaky Allied cruisers move out of Pearl and attack an empty transport TF of 10 ships heading North to Midway to bolster the Pearl Invasion force. CA San Francisco, CL Trenton, CL Concord, CL St. Louis, CL Helena, CL Phoenix, CL Honolulu and DDs destroy the TF completely - a grave loss of transport ships.

In Lahaina harbour DD Namikaze hits SS Grayling 4 times.

The 51st Naval Guard land at Tabiteuea, it is an island i want to build up in the Pacific, the shock attack takes the undefended island without any problems.

In the air above Pearl 47 Zeros sweep the base and meet 41 fighters, 6 Allied planes are destroyed for no loss.

Lahaina expands to level 4, i will sweep one more turn and then switch to escorting bombers - Kona is halfway to becoming a level 2 field - i will base the fighters from here and the bombers from Lahaina.

Fuel and supplies are still being unloaded at Lahaina, and the BF and Air HQ are about 8 hexes out.

Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo

The I-157 sent to hunt for the evil cruisers at Soerbaja enters the harbour and hits a mine - she sinks.

The Balikpapan/Samarinda invasion force arrives at Samarinda - 184 casualties are taken during the landing, the inevitable Allied bombardment misses and causes 21 Allied casualties. 681 Allied troops face 30000 Japanese - the deliberate attack is ordered for next turn.

Troops also land on Medjene in the Celebes - this undefended base will fall next turn. Recon is sent to Kendari, Maccassar, and Ambon - these bases will be taken before an attack is staged into Java.

The air war starts again above the skies of Clark and Manilla - 40 Nates meet 21 P40Es and Bs throughtout the day, 6 Nates are lost to 1 P40E. Oscars are been drafted in here and Lilly bombers to shut the airfields once more.

Malaya & Burma

Undefend Kuala Lumpur falls to the 5th Div and the 55th Cavalry Regiment - the rail network on the west of the peninsular is now in IJA hands easing the transport times considerably. Force B is redirected towards Timuleh and then onto Kuantan where the last of the 'outfield' defenders of Malaya will be destroyed before Force A and B move onto Singapore itself.

At Malacca 4k Allied troops, previously defeated at Mersing are again beaten by the 18th Division. They are ordered to stay here and garrison the South.

Looks like he split Pearl and put Half at Lahaina. Though its hard to tell how big those fragments are..

The 2nd/298th was garrisoning Lahaina when the war began.

The other units present are apparently reinforcements from the West Coast.

There are no indications that any of the American units initially garrisoning Oahu (4 infantry regiments, 2 marine defense battalions, 4 AA regiments, plus the ginormous Harbor Defenses) have left.

P.S. Looking at your starting post - why halting research for late-war planes? It does not consume HI and unless "Realistic R&D" is OFF you gain nothing from it. It seems, that the best policy is keeping most of the default allocation. I tried to repurpose labs working on bad planes, like Ka-1 or Myojo to researching 1943 fighters (because armored fighters seem to offer a gigantic advantage in pilot survival and I want them ASAP, at least for IJA), but I haven't played far enough yet to see, if this will work.

It seems, that the best policy is keeping most of the default allocation. I tried to repurpose labs working on bad planes, like Ka-1 or Myojo to researching 1943 fighters (because armored fighters seem to offer a gigantic advantage in pilot survival and I want them ASAP, at least for IJA), but I haven't played far enough yet to see, if this will work.

Lahaina is already mine and im marching towards Hilo so this shouldnt be too much trouble, my only other target is Pearl itself.

Research is switched off for the late planes because i dont believe that much will be caught up by then and i want to see the implications for my HI and resources first - i can switch them back on again depending on the need.

&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; As I heard, research is free, so there is no reason to shut it down. It doesn't seem to have much effect, though.

You can always use barges from Lahaina .. no loss when those shells hit them.

Pacific

After the sneaky Allied cruiser attack near Hawaii it was a guessing game as to where they would go next, the turn ended with recon showing them heading west to Johnston Is. - the level bombers here were put on naval attack and waited. There is already a sizeable IJN cruiser force at Lahaina so this was covered - it really only leaves Kona undefended - there is nothing in the harbour but i took this to be Yanks next target and moved my BB force there - i was right.

The San Fransisco was hit with 9 shells from Nagato and retreats on fire as does the DD Balch, the other casualty was the Phoenix. In return the Nagato is hit by 10 shells which cause almost no damage and the CL Nagara retires in flames.

Twice the BB force come across an escort force of an undamaged DD and the San Fransisco but it manages to evade both times.

A flurry of sub activity sees the SS Trout, SS Grayling, S-23, S-28, S-34 and the SS Nautilus attack unloading ships at Lahaina and returning empty ships to Midway, only the S-34 is successful and sinks an xAP at Lahaina, the Nautilus is caught by an ASW force and receives one hit from the DDs, the Grayling is found but no attack follows.

At Truk the AP carrying the 6th Base Force, now en route to Tabiteuea runs the gauntlet of the SS Triton again, she fires 6 torpedoes but they all miss - again.

Throughout the day 56 Zeros sweep Pearl, for 1 loss they destroy 3 more fighters - recon shows 10 fighters and 9 bombers left on the island - there is some airfield reassignments to take place next turn, Zeros moving to the smaller airfield of Kona to provide escort to the bombers leaving from Lahaina - then the ground attacks can start the turn after next.

57 Nells attack the retiring cruiser force as it passes Lahaina, they are true brothers of the Manado Blind Bombers Pilot Force and miss with almost everything - 1 bomb hits the San Fransisco causing heavy damage - in reply 3 B17s attack the Fuso at Lahaina and all 3 return home damaged.

Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo

3 Nates are lost over Manilla causing no damage to the 18 fighters - still too low i think

1 Nate is lost at Clark attacking the 7 fighters there - again altitude will be increased until the Oscars can get here.

Off Samarinda the Kongo is attacked by the 139WH-3s again, all are damaged and no bombs are dropped.

At Samarinda itself the delibertae attack is resolved at odds of 464:1 the base is taken undamaged - there is 5k of fuel, 10k oil and plenty supplies. The garrison forces stay put - a base force and the 1st Kure SNLF, the rest - the 65th, the 124th and the Guards and another base force and engineers are already marching to Balikpapan - they should be there in 2 turns.

Madjene falls undefended, 3 bases remain other than Kendari and Maccassar.

China

A small dot base - Tsiaotso is taken by the IJA steam roller around Kaifing - this force will not be defeated by the number of forces around this base, elements are breaking off to surround the forces here to crush entirely the 10 units around the base and then more troops can be brought in to start capturing further bases.

Malaya

The composition of forces and the location of Yanks forces means i cant leave either Kuala Lumpur or Malacca - Force B with the Imperial Guards with them are still marching to Tebuleh(sp?) to shut down Yanks movement and bring about the final confrontation of his remaining forces outside Singapore

I-21 misses the outgoing, damaged cruiser force retiring to the US West Coast

The unsinkable Grayling takes 9 depth charge hits but is still seen in the afternoon.

The S-23 and S-28 both try and sink an already burning xAK at Lahaina, and miss.

53 Zeros sweep Pearl and destroy 3 fighters for no loss - i have noticed since sweeping from 23k on Pearl no planes have been damaged - only destruction is occurring. Pearl is almost out of aircraft - next turn there will be a sweep and the rest of the Zeros will escort Bettys and Nells on port attack to try and dmage the immense coastal guns here.

3 Bombers attack the 33rd Division at Lahaina, all are damaged for minor casualties.

The 15th Base Force and 11th Air HQ are 2 turns out from Kona to provide much needed AV Support. Both Lahaina and Kona should increase to size 5 and size 3 airfields respectively in 2 turns.

At Suva the I-17 sinks a departing xAKL.

Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo

Small TFs pass through the sea-lanes around the Celebes and approach the last 2 remaining undefended bases attracting the attention of the 139WH-3s nearby, no hits occur.

In the Celebes, undefended Watampone falls.

The march to Balikpapan continues, supplies are sent to Samarinda to fix the 1 damaged oilfield there.

China

A bad day for the IJA in China, a shock attack at Kanhsien meets much more defenders than anticipated - the AV is adjusted down to 14 because of low supplies and the IJA runs into the brick wall of an Allied AV of 522, 1922 casualties are suffered compared to 37 Allied.

The northern most dot base at the top of the railway - Patow - falls undefended to the Allies.

At Chushien an Allied shock attack causes 1998 IJA casualties and causes a retreat.

Malaya

Allied and IJA forces both head towards Timuleh - here i hope to destroy all but the Kuantan guerilla forces - 13 units. Isolated Singapore still has only 22 units there.

At Mersing the remainder of the 38th Div left in Canton after the MTB attack arrives and starts unloading.

Pacific

Off Lahaina over 3 seperate occassions the S-27 is found by ASW forces and off shore cruisers and takes 8 hits.

Lahaina's size 4 airfield stands at 98% towards a size 5, Kona's stands at 38% towards a size 3 - once Lahaina reaches size 5 i will move engineers from here to Kona to get this airfield up to size.

The 20th and 9th regiment march from Kona to Hilo to take this base from the Allies.

As the unstoppable forces of the Emporer roll on undefended Molokai opts to join the Japanese real estate growing around Hawaii.

38 Zeros escorting 32 Nells attacks Pearls port, 2 Nells are destroyed and 13 damaged, importantly 4 more Allied fighters are destroyed, more importantly nothing happens at the port - no damage - but the level bombers were at 20k feet to try and lower AA damage, next turn they will go in at 6k feet and see what happens.

34 Zeros then sweep the base, 1 Zero is lost but the CAP is now well and truly surpressed - i think there are 6 serviceable fighters here - if nothing comes of the new port attack i will switch to airfield and try and destroy what remains on the ground.

15 Nells and 26 Bettys then go it alone without an escort, 8 are damaged 2 are destroyed and 1 bomb hits the BB Maryland.

The TF with a number of SNLFs and Naval Guard units arrives at Palmyra, nothing is seen from the coast, so 1 unit will unload here next turn - if theres a garrison the rest will unload too.

At Suva the I-26 catches a departing xAKL and sinks her.

Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo

The 139WH-3s attempt to hit the TFs delivering garrisons to the undefended Celebes bases but miss again - puplis of the same school as my Nell pilots in the area.

The Balikpapan invasion force should arrive next turn, and a SNLF is approaching Legaspi to starting cleaning up the South of Luzon.

Malaya

A further disaster for the Japanese merchant fleet - the ships unloading the last of the 38th Division are caught by the baby evil cruiser force - Dragon, Durban and the DDs Vampire and Express, 5 xAKs are sunk outright, the 38th made it off in time just supplies are lost - i have taken it for granted that the navy is defeated here and have started unescorted trnasports again - this has to stop and the cruiser forces have to be found.

Bombers from Singapore attack the runways at Mersing but are intercepted by Oscars - no damage is caused.

China

Around Ichang the relief force sent to libertae the area clears land around the base in order to surround it - the 30th Chinese Corps is soundly beaten and it retreats west - the encircling of Ichang commences.

I would think to suppress the coastal guns, you would need to be using Ground Attack. As the CD units are treated as LCUs.
