okay, opening moves, a very fine line, you need some fighters in the air, but don't have much range, if you move, you cut down on how much they can fly, and not really any place for them to move to

so, if you start the ground war, to gain some space, you also, use up your bombers and fighters with ground support duties

so, I was able to move one of my fighter fields about 3 hexes forward, and they can now help support my airfields raids

I had been lucky so far, with my 110 coverage, the SU didn't really put up too many fighters

so, I gambled and guessed where I thought the SU would get some planes into the air

guessed right

right now, I am controlling my missions (Shift Right Click on the target, brings up the units that can fly the mission, just right click, lets the AI pick the forces, or you can just click at the top, on AI, and let the AI run all of the airfield attack missions)

my loss was a 110 that a biplane shot down !

fighters clean the skies and the bombers took out those sitting on the ground

and, looks like my 110s are getting greedy !!!

here is one of the Prime targets

hassle is, most times you will pull mainly ground attack planes for the job, which they suffer to Flak, and you want them for the ground attack part !!!

so, I pick a field father away from the front and get some of my tac bombers instead (one hassle with the AI control, it will use up all of your Ground attack planes)

but as you see, some 490 total planes sitting here

and now, I can leave the field for later, if I have mission left to fly, or just wait for the over run (ready planes will fly away, damaged planes will get, well, overran)

for me, and from what I can tell from intel, if field has lots of fighters, then I send fighters, and light bombers, if field has bombers, I go heavy with the bombers (fighters will be in the air, bombers will be on the ground)

and just in case, when I test, I play with FOW off, I want to watch and see what the AI is doing, it may not be fair, or it may give me a bit of a edge, but, who cares how many games I win or lose during testing, I want to see what is going on

trying a different idea for my opening attacks

trying for a big pocket, caught em

by one hex !!!

first turn, took Riga, on the flanks of Minsk, south, looks like a screw up, I was setting up for a major battle/pocket, the Russians ran away

If that Rifle division near Vilnius can move 6 hexes to the Southwest, 5 of which over friendly terrain, the pocket will have a link to the rest of the front again.

Can you give us an idea how many men and how much material is in this huge pocket?

You answered the question while I was posting. Very nice pocket

How did the commander of 6th Cavalry Corps get involved in a fight with the Soviet defending forces described as only the 204th Motorized Division?

Did the Soviets move him to a different formation on turn 1? I have a source saying a man with the same name and rank was commander of VI Mechanized Corps (4th, 7th Tank and 29 Motorized/Mechanized Rifle Divisions, all died the pocket).

not all of the Rifle Divs were full strength, but most of the Tank Divs were over

but, in the long run, I am way behind the curve. the AI already has it's 2nd line set, and I am not really even close to it, but the south will not a delay, they ran away

look at the snapshot, you will see the hex under attack shows 3 units there, so at least one of them is a HQ, maybe two, the HQ was overran during the battle (HQ don't show up in the combat message)
