He's attacked but see the result
Interesting that he's using hasty attacks when one deliberate attack should have done the job. I am always nervous making hasties on a 3-stack, as there is 3 times the chance of the counter CV being wrong, and the actual CV going against me.
I think it makes sense, Big Anorak. He's been around Smolensk for the last 4 turns... deciding what to do. He first attacked from the "natural" place (the west), now apparently from the SE. I had many strategic reserves here [:)] So I am guessing he's finally realized he has lost many time here, therefore he is in a hurry now. Thus a hasty attack: "dislodge the bloody enemies and KEEP MOVING as soon as possible" makes sense [8D]

In the Western Front I have redeployed the forces: the threat in the north is non-existent now.

Alright, I followed the gurus' advice

First successful attack against the fascist hordes. Two security German regiments were wildly assaulted and forced to retreat

Turn 11

28 august 1941
Well, nothing has happened on this turn. But this has to be the calm before the storm [8D] On the Western (Smolensk) and Southwestern Fronts (a mega pocket?).

Western Front. Definitely, he is going to capture Smolensk. I will not retreat here. He will have to fight to have this city [8D]

In the Southwest now yes I am going to retreat the exposed front. Either he wants to form a big pocket or the north Panzers are ordered perhaps to capture Kursk. Two divisions will stay in Kiev.

The Southern Front and Crimea. I will not retreat here. He will need to kick me out of this zone. But of course things may change: what happens in the Southwestern Front that is.

Now all the air force (except some recon and transport planes) is in the National Reserve. I will start deploying it. Fighters to IAD bases, bombers to BAD bases, etc. etc. But only the squadrons which morale and experience are minimum > 50.

You look to have a bellweather defense going. Good job, and I'm enjoying the AAR greatly.

Great AAR TD. What program are you using for your maps? Just curious, yours has some features mine doesn't. [;)]

I'm glad you like it. Feel free to comment whatever you want. Harsh criticism included [:)]

Well, to be honest the fist pics were über sh*t (anyone can see them on the first and second page of this AAR) [8D] I was using GIMP. Then I saw the other AARs (expecially YOURS) with the amazing and aesthetic transparent arrows. I could not find how to make the arrows with Gimp so someone said he was using Paint.net. Now I am using this programme. Humm, what features are you thinking about? My edited screenshots are rather minimalist though [:)]

I like the way your writing is back lit with the white boarding. For me to do that with JASC would be a pain in the arse. Looking through your maps I now see that you might be doing what I would have to do. You have to make the box then type in it right? I just find making the box the right size then typing in it a pain because with JASC you would have to do it basically in 3 steps and you can't readjust the box once your past step 2 which step 3 is the writing phase. Not really made for boxed wording.

Yes, I first have to make the boxes and then write: two steps. It could be much more efficient. You type and that text COULD be surrounded by a box or any other geometric figure. Maybe it's possible by the way [:)]
Anyway, maybe I should try again with GIMP. Now I know it's possible to draw arrows. You only need a plugin (40 Kb or so). As a Linux user I know the Open Source software is usually VERY flexible. If I manage to type text surrounded by a rectangle, I will let you know. After all, Gimp is free and small. JASC is over 100 megas I think (and not free?).

JASC is large, not sure on the size and yes it was a college purchase I made. Regular price is probably 70-80 bucks for the new version.

You should not have to put fighters and bombers at specific type airbases; at least the manual doesn't say so.

IIRC the only reason to pick a particular airbase for a squadron is this.
Night time partisan airdrops are carried out from V V S airbases using night transport squadrons.
If insufficient then some other airbases are checked.
Nice AAR.
Could you please list your Commands and there Command Capacity etc just like another guy did in his AAR

Holy ****! Sire Chaos is obsessed with the Lake Ilmen! [X(] But he hasn't secured his right flank yet [8D] Ergo I launch
Operation Anaconda [:D] His AGN Panzer and Motorised divisions were hiding east of the lake. So I unleash the bears!

Nicely exploited - he has a chance to cut some of those divisions off though... a good delay nonetheless

The forces near Smolensk have been reinforced. The eggs are in one basket, but I'm rather confident. Just in case... Let's pray!!!
