Well I wanted a pocket and I got it! Here's what I saw when I opened my turn.

End of turn. All but one tank corps is routed.

Turn 54, 6/25/1942

Still trying to make a pocket. No offensives anywhere else.

Turn 55, 7/2/1942

Looks like the pocket is finally made.

Turn 56

Successful defense against the shock armies in the north is good news.

But if the Soviets really want a hex nothing can stop them.

Winding down the offensive in the south, for now. Further offensives here would just stretch out lines.

And exploring the possibilities of an offensive near Moscow. No major rivers to cross and no "stretching" the lines. Objective is not Moscow but rather to surround and destroy as many units as possible. Secondary objective is to gain and hold ground.

Turn 57, 7/16/1942

The Soviets think we are heading for Stalingrad.

But we are not.

Defenses are surprisingly light once we get past the fortifications.

Nice work. Demonstrates that one challenge for the Axis player in '42 is to misdirect the Sovs attention. My failed campaign against Captain Flam saw me mass every single Pz unit in an almighty southern push. While I tried to keep him guessing about exactly what they were up to, in fact it made it too easy for him to defend. OTOH, I've also been struck down by excessive separation... I think you've got it just about right.

Turn 59, 7/30/1942

Offensive continues, but unless we can create some sort of pocket the casualty ratio is not good enough.
