Heinrich,
That just put a big smile on the dial [:D].
Thank you so much. As J2D said, it really is nice to see someone enjoy PCO enough to write an AAR.
Happy New Year.
Hopefully more AARs to come in 2012?
S.

Happy new year!
Thank you for thins AAR!
PS:
How can 45mm ATGs kill tigers from distance? I have never experienced such in any wargame...

Thanks Heinrich, your AAR's never cease to entertain. They are among the best I've ever read.
I never tire of reading your excellent accounts of your battles.
Good Hunting.

Thanks Heinrich, that was great. The battles go by so fast that I sometimes miss much of the detail. Your AAR adds another dimension to it.

Thank-you all for the nice comments. They are what makes doing these AARs worth all the effort.
Sztartur, the 4.5-cm Tiger kills came as a great surprise to me too. I checked closely to see if any other gun or weapon system caused the kill, but couldn't find anything else.
If it were a mine kill, usually the little red mine would attach itself to the tank wreck. This didn't happen. In the review sheet after the game, there were in fact, two kills for Tigers given to 4.5-cm guns. They must have been incredibly lucky shots. I have not heard of frontal Tiger kills with the 4.5-cm gun.
I'm glad you all enjoyed the struggle.

Those aren't your early war short 45mm with defective ammo but the later 45mm/L68. They also have some APCR.
A hit from normal AP might even take a lucky hit on the front near the hull MG or drivers visor. There is the weak spot on the lower side hull that can hit from as little as 30-degrees off the front arc.
APCR

Mobius,
Thanks for the explanation. I now have a much greater appreciation for their power.
I played the scenario from the German side too, and was very careful when taking hits from 4.5-cm guns. They were immediately targeted with everything until knocked out.
Usually the second hit from them on my Mark III tanks was instant death.

Well that is interesting. I learned that even 76mm ATGs were ineffective against the Tiger they used them in groups of four to have a chance of doing damage.
Was APCR ammo in abundance? I believe not.

Not at all. And the M-1942 was only accepted for service a few months before Kursk so they probably weren't represented as the only 45mm AT gun. But having two different models might be confusing for the player.

BTW, you used the word gout so many times that when I go to my facebook account, I get ads for gout treatment. Big Brother is taking care of me.

Sorry about that. Gout is such a descriptive word for the flames from the guns and the wrecks. [:D] Wasn't gout considered "The Kings' Affliction" in medieval times? [;)]
