Enjoy while you can. Version 1.08 will alter flak balance in German favour. Currently only the number of AA guns and their anti-air strength matters, but soon many factors will come into play: accuracy, rate of fire and blast of weapons, plus experience, morale and fatigue of soldiers operating them.
edit: I meant the Soviets can enjoy their AA efficiency

I mixed your threads.

This is probably a good thing to achieve historical Russian air plane losses.
But why is the 85 mm AA gun not firing at all? Are there other weapons in this game that just don't participate in combat?

I don't understand why sapper222 was recommending bombing the port. I guess he would take the entire German bomber force to destroy the port in 3 or 4 turns? But then the two or three Rifle Corps in the city would still be in beachhead supply. They would still have a CV above 100 and you would need many divisions/pioneers to capture the city.
I still think the best approach would be to load up infantry divisions with pioneers and do multiple attacks on the city.

Data from AI vs AI Stalingrad to Berlin on start of Axis turn 13:
Axis AA losses from 289 (1.7.15) to 55 (1.8.0).
Soviet AA losses from 62 (1.7.15) to 157 (1.8.0).
As for the 85mm - do you mean regular combat or just AA fire? Units attached to cities do not fight in land combat when their hex is attacked.

I have 3 PVO AA Regiments in Odessa. They each have 20 85 mm AA guns as their main weapon. During bombing of the port only the 37 mm AA guns participate in combat.

While I'm pretty sure this is only a display issue (flak power is calculated separately from listing AA guns), a review of the flak functions resulted in fixing some bugs and perhaps making the reporting more reliable in 1.8.0.

Turn 61, 13th august 1942
Initiative is going to USSR... This time it's sure, I will not win this game.
First significant soviet attack during clear weather. For the moment he is still cautious and back to his forts.
And the german counterattack. Note the 4 Pzd with 180 AFV...

Alarmingly, even with that successful counterattack, your losses were about even, making it a strategic victory for the Soviets in terms of manpower. I fear that you are right about the initiative and this will be a supreme test of your defensive skills. Good luck!

the worrying bit about that sequence of results is that losses are pretty even, seems that even when you make a succesful counterattack you are really just trading losses?

There seems to come a point usually in mid to late summer 42 where Axis attacks casualties go up. Is this from Soviet toe changes?

You're right. Stacks that can be attacked have usually 3 corps. My Pzd are far from full strength so I get odds between 2.5 to 3.5. Not enough to inflict significant losses.

My force strength chart shows me that while Soviet artillery stays stable in '41, at about 45k, it grows to 90k in 6'42 (mostly from mortars if I remember well). This is completely not noticeable in unit CVs, since artillery has no CV. However those guns cause large number of losses during battles.

2 turns before mud... In 1942, I'm already counting the turns before mud![:(]
Considering respective OOB, the date and the space available, situation is desesperate.
An overview of the global map with the main axes of soviet attacks.
As you can notice, for the first time since april, my armament pool isn't at zero!
The russians did a successfull raid on Leningrad. I was too confident. Fortunatly they didn't have the MP's to take the city.
The consequence:

I could have moved a mechanized corps into the city. But it would have been to easy to push it out of the city. Better to be patient.

41 was a cakewalk for the Russian air-force but 42 is a different picture. [X(]
