The BN XO now had to decide whether to move the TOC forward. The BN’s forward-most elements had advanced 250 to 500 meters beyond his HQ’s ability to keep those units supplied; but with LTC Haga at the front, he was hesitant. If he pulled pitch now, he risked supplies to the bulk of the BN. But if he stayed, those few units that needed it most would likely find themselves low on supplies in the next few minutes. He didn’t have to hesitate long. His senior NCO knew what he was thinking. “Respectfully, Sir. We must move forward now”, the BN SGT said in a very low voice, away from the rest of the men in the tent. The XO turned his head toward him—he was taller than the SGT—“Make it so”. And immediately the SGT barked orders; the men in the tent responding just as immediately…
