I'm loving the AAR. Can I ask a newb question? Where did you find that nifty economic chart? Did you make it in Excel, or is it in an MWIF menu somewhere?

I created it in excel and I've attached it. This version (i.e., attached version) includes Vichy France, but I edit it before they're created when I post the report. I also print out the attached sheet (which has two copies of the table) on both sides of a page. This gives me four tables per page (i.e., 2 tables per side) which I used to take notes on and then transfer it electronically to the table I post.

I'm loving the AAR, but I'm hung up on a rules question. Why, in this land combat across a river, were none of the attackers' attack strength halved for the river? (The Axis units add up to 55 attack, plus the (halved) ground support, for a total of 57 -- no halving due to crossing a river. MWIF gave the Axis credit for all 57 attack factors; no river malus.) Do rivers freeze in snow? That might make sense, but I can't find any such provision in the rules.

2. Nov/Dec 1939. Land Combat. Brussels.

The Germans take Brussels on the surprise impulse, but at a cost. The Germans lose 2 corps and see three other attacking units disorganized. The disorganized attackers are reorganized by Rundstedt.

04. Mar/Apr 1940.

1. No change in the victory totals from last turn.

2. This turn lasted 5 impulses with the allies moving first and last, which means the allies had 3 and the axis 2 of the 5 impulses.

3. The weather in the North Temperate (i.e., France) was either rain or snow for the turn. And, in the Pacific and Asia the weather wasn't much better.

04. Mar/Apr 1940. Bay of Bengal.

1. The IJN made a push to clear the RN from the Bay of Bengal this turn. This push was partially, but not completely, successful as you shall see in the next three posts.

2. The Japanese have also assembled a amphibious task force docked in Rangoon, Burma. The Japanese plan to use this force to establish a foothold in India next turn.

3. The Japanese also align Siam this turn, to which the USA reacted to and added another chit to the Japanese entry pool.

04. Mar/Apr 1940. Bay of Bengal Naval Battle.

The IJN and RN did square off for two rounds of naval battle in the Bay of Bengal which saw two RN aircraft carriers damaged and three others forced to abort. In return the IJN saw 1 of the aircraft carriers damaged and two more forced to abort. Well, really only one forced to abort with the second IJN carrier "aborting" by mistake. More on that later.

The first round of combat include a air to air battle resulting in the downing of a Japanese carrier air unit though Japan had a slight (+2) advantage in the air to air battle.

04. Bay of Bengal Naval Battle, Round 1.

The IJN aircraft carrier Hiryu was damaged by the RN. The Japanese player (that's me) mistakenly "selected" the Ryujo was the abort (2nd) roll instead of the Hiryu. The result was that Japan saw 1 damaged and 2 aborted aircraft carriers instead of 1 damaged and 1 aborted. The only mitigating factor to this mistake was that the Ryujo air unit was still in the air, had room to land on the Akagi and participate in the second round of this naval battle.

04. Mar/Apr 1940. Bay of Bengal, Naval Battle, Round 2.

The second round saw the remaining RN carrier in the sea area damaged and forced to abort.

Combat ended after this round as both sides were unsuccessful in their search rolls.

04. Mar/Apr 1940. Ceylon.

With Singapore gone and the Bay of Bengal nearly under the control of the IJN, the RN Pacific fleet is now operating out of Ceylon.

Also, the CW is trying to build up their forces in India to counter the expected Japanese invasion.

04. Mar/Apr 1940. Malaysia, Singapore and East Indian Ocean.

The IJN also has a second invasion task force, centered around the 4-4 SNLF marine corps, put together in the ports of Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

In the port Batavia, the IJN has a carrier strike force centered around the Kaga whose mission is to gain full control of the East Indian Ocean including the destruction of the CW convoy point there.

04. Mar/Apr 1940. South China Sea.

In the port of Tarakan, Borneo the IJN has a division size amphibious force ready to go in support of any operations next turn in the Bay of Bengal.

04. Mar/Apr 1940. Truk and Kwajalein.

With the IJN eyeing the Bay of Bengal and India to the West, the Japanese have not had the opportunity to build up their defenses against the USA on Truk, Siapan and now Kwajalein. Returning the IJN cruiser was a mistake. One which the USA reacted to and added another chit to the Japanese entry pool.

04. Mar/Apr 1940. Hawaii and Midway.

04. Mar/Apr 1940. Rabul, Timor and Bismarck Sea.

Also, with the Japanese main focus in the Bay of Bengal, the CW was able to reinforce Rabul.
