I know there are 2 in Iraq.
There are a lot of unaccounted for German land units. I suspect a layer of units ehind that Moscow line that I can't see.

And those German Corps are damn hard for me to touch themselves. Part of the reason I'm picking on the Italians and German minors at the flank.

Allied Turn July 1, 1943

Previous Axis Turn:
Frozen in the Arctic. Clear Everywhere else.

In Persia, the Germans take Khorramabad and Kermanshah destroying the upgraded Russian Garrisons with no losses.

The Italian Army in Jerusalem attacks the full strength American Army and does 2 damage while taking 3.

The Germans target a Greek Corps north of Monastir with 4 bomber attacks (3 Medium & 1 TAC).
A series of furious air battles are fought with British fighters taking 10 damage across 3 squadrons. 2 squadrons of German fighters each take 2 hits, all 3 Medium Bombers take 2 hits, and the TAC bomber takes 1 hit.
This followed up by attacks from an Italian Mech, a German Corps (I think) and a German Panzer which shatters the Greek Corps. The German Panzer takes 1 damage.

In the Crimea, the back and forth starts to swing again. A Panzer Grenadier attacks the 7 strength Russian Corps doing 2 damage, and the German Tigers are seen approaching just east of the Melitopol mines.
Italian Medium bombers and Tactical bombers strike at the pinching Russian Mech next to the Italian HQ, which flees, south of Tula.
2 Russian Fighters share 9 damage, while a German Fighter takes 2 hits and both Italian bombers take 2 hits. The Mech is later shattered doing 1 damage to a German Panzer.
The Russian Mech on the other wing of pincers is attacked by the German Paratrooper (and maybe by another unit?). The Mech takes 3 damage (now str 7) while the Paratrooper takes 2. The Paratrooper then pulls back a hex.
2 German Tactical bombers then strike a Russian Corps 2 hexes north of Kursk. It is attacked by other Corp(s?) and finished off by the German Panzer in Kursk, which then retreats back into the city.

My notes also say a German Panzer took 2 damage attacking a Russian Army (the Shock Army maybe?), but if it did it must've retreated as I don't see it. It might have been the one that was weakened a couple of turns ago.



Allied Turn
Frozen in the Arctic. Clear Everywhere else.

Strategic bombers strike Jerusalem doing 3 damage to the holy city (and a bit of morale & readiness damage to the defending Italian Army), while taking 1 back (the City has been upgraded to AA 1).
Tactical bombers are then sent and do 1 damage to the Italian Army.
The US Corps and 2 Armies then attack and bring the Italian Army down to a 1 strength. The Armies then move and take Haifa and Amman.

British Tactical bombers attack the Italian Mech southeast of Scutari, Albania. Surprisingly, they are not intercepted and do 2 damage to the Italians.
A 2nd wave of Tactical bombers is sent doing 2 more damage to the Italians, and 1 to the bombers.
A 3rd wave does 1 more damage to the Italian Mech, reducing it to a 5 strength.
The elite Greek Army then attacks and does 2 more damage, forcing the Italian Mech to retreat north.
HMS Formidable moves to the coast of the Greek panhandle and strikes the German Medium bombers in Sofia. The German bombers are shattered after 2 strikes, while the Formidable's air wing takes 2 damage.*
HMS Courageous launches 2 strikes at the Medium bombers in Pec. The bombers take 6 damage while the air wing takes 1.*
A less than full strength British fighter is then sent and successfully finishes off the bombers in Pec.
4 Battleships shore bombard a shell shocked Italian Corps on the Albanian Coast.**
The Greek HQ and a Corps fall back to trim their line, and another English Army shows up near Tirana.

Operation Piñata is launched.***
The US Airship draws AA fire from near the Loos and Mons mines. It takes 3 damage. Then Naval bombers fly and draw further AA fire, and nimbly evade damage.
This clears the way for the Lancasters of Bomber Command which then do 3 damage to both sets of mines.
The US 15th Air force then bombs each of the mines for 2 damage each (5 damage to both mines in total) and takes 1 point back from one of the strikes.

2 Russian Armies and a Russian Corps play tag team with attacks against a German AT unit across the Don. The AT takes 7 damage, while the Russian Corps takes 2 and one Army takes 1.
2 Soviet Armies advance on Kursk and punish the German Panzer for it's raid (and thus the loss of it's entrenchment) and for taking up inside a city. The 8 strength Panzer takes 6 damage, while the Russians take 1 & 2, respectively.
North of Orel, on the east side of the river an elite (str 11) Soviet Shock Army and Heavy Tanks advance on the German Panzers (str 9, 1 exp). The Shock Army does 2 damage and takes 1 back.
A 7 strength Russian Mech attacks the 6 strength (2 exp, 5 supply, meh morale/readiness) paratroopers that attacked them on the German's turn.
They do 3 damage and take 1 back on the first attack, the second attack is not so favorable as they destroy the paratroopers but take 3 damage (bringing them to str 3). They then fall back to recoup.
A full strength Mechanized then moves forward and attacks the Panzers once exchanging 2 damage.
The Russian JS II Heavy Tanks then attack the Panzers and destroy them outright.
A Russian Corps attacks an Italian 6 strength Corps next to it and does a point of damage, then moves south 1 hex.
A Russian Army moves pass the heavy tanks and attacks the Italian Corps for 2 damage.
A Russian 9 strength Corps then moves into the hex vacated by the other Corps and exchanges 1 damage with the Italian Corps.
A Russian Corps moves forward, north of Kursk (now that the weakened Panzers in the city don't exert ZOC preventing it) and attack. They destroy the Panzer, while taking 2 damage.
Unfortunately there is no Russian unit that can move into the city.
The Russian 8 strength Mech that attacked the Panzers the Hvy Tanks later destroyed, takes its 2nd attack against the 3 strength Italian Corps. They do 2 and take 1.
A Russian Corps that attacked the Italian Corps moves south to make way for a 7 strength Mech to move forward. It destroys the Italian Corps, but takes 2 damage. It then falls back a hex.
Improved rockets bombard Rzhev twice. This is followed by attacks from 3 Russian Armies that do 3 damage to the Special Forces unit. One of the Armies takes a point of damage back.
North of Luga, a Russian AA unit rails away and a large formation of heavy artillery takes its place.
A Russian Corps west of Narva attacks an elite, but low supply German Corps, no damage is done, but the Germans loose a level of entrenchment.
Russian Tactical bombers then attack the same Corps. They are intercepted by Finnish Fighters based near Helsinki.
Russian escorts engage the interceptors and an air battle actually slightly favors the Russians: RU FTR -2, RU TAC -1, FIN FTR -4, GE CORPS -2.
A Russian Corps then moves up and tries its luck against the German, and only removes the last entrenchment level, before falling back a hex.
Russian Heavy Tanks then move forward and destroy the German Corps, opening the road. The first Corps that started the attack is then free to move a couple of hexes along said road towards Talinn.
Katyusha rockets fire into a Finnish Corps, this is followed by attacks from Light Tanks and the Armored Train doing 6 damage to the Corps.

Allies liberate Transjordan.


* The bombers launched their attacks (on the German turn) from Pec & Sofia, so these were blind risk attacks, presuming he didn't move them after their strikes.
** You know maybe shore bombardment is a bit understrength, if it can't do a single point of damage to a unit in bad morale/readiness shape on a clear hex in 13 strikes from Battleships (12 of which are at Naval 1).
*** As cheesy as this seems, I took more damage to Strat Bombers this turn than I did back (according to the reports). I don't think using Strat Bombers to try and force Germany to put fighters in western Europe is going to work. They just don't do enough and are too costly to justify their use.

I always looked at that airship and laughed...should have known someone would figure out a use.

It's also a darn good (and cheap) recon unit. Even its passive detection can be useful particularly if you decide to invest in long range.

Allied Turn July 15, 1943

Previous Axis Turn:
Frozen in the Arctic. Clear Everywhere else.

No Activity seen in Persia.

On the Greek front the Axis shuffle their line slightly, putting a 2nd unit (a GARR) next to Thessaloniki.

In the Crimea, the low supply 5 strength Russian Corps is attacked twice by a low supply Panzer Grenadier and takes 2 damage.
The Russian Corps is then attacked by a Romanian Corps, with the Romanian taking 1 damage. It is then attacked by a German Corps and forced to retreat.
The damaged AT unit near Rostov pulls back behind the line and is replaced by a 7 strength Panzer Grenadier.
A German Army attacks a Russian Army across the Don near Rostov. The Russians take 3 damage, the Germans 2.
A 9 strength Hungarian Corps moves into Kursk.
The Germans retreat out of Rzhev and trim their line down to Orel.
Tactical bombers fly unescorted against the Soviet Heavy Tanks. Their are intercepted by Russian fighters: RU FTR -1, GE TAC 2 hits, RU HVY TNK -1.
Near Leningrad, the Germans pull out of Luga. A German Corps and the Panzers are still visible, so it is presumed there is a line through the forest 2 hexes behind Luga.



Allied Turn
Frozen in the Arctic. Clear Everywhere else.

Operation Piñata continues.
The US airship takes 3 damage as do the US Naval bombers in drawing fire from the German AA near the Loos and Mons mines.
Bomber Command then hits the mines for 4 damage each (knocking them each down to 0), but takes 1 damage from the 2nd run.
American B17 bombers then hit Vichy for 3 damage, but take 1 back themselves. They elect not to make a 2nd run.

The Greek Cruiser scouts the coast of Sicily finding an Italian Corps in Syracuse, an Italian Garrison in Messina, an Italian Special Forces unit in Marsala, and a German Paratrooper (???) in Palermo.
The newly acquired Free French Light Cruiser scouts Naples and finds an Italian Garrison there.
English Tactical Bombers are intercepted on their way to strike the coastal Italian Corps. They are intercepted by German Fighters stationed in Nish. Escorting Spitfire IXs (UK FTR lvl 4) engage the Germans.
The Germans take 5 damage to their fighters (3 from UK fighters & 2 from UK TAC), while the UK fighters take 2 damage, and the UK TAC takes 1 damage. Only 1 damage is done to the Italian target.
Another engagement is fought with the German fighters taking 3 more damage, the UK fighters 2 damage and the Italian Corps 1.
A 3rd strike is not intercepted and does 2 damage to the Italian Corps.
4 Battleships again shore bombard the Italian Corps without doing any damage (nor deentrenchment btw), but manage to bring the Italian Corps down to single digit morale points.
2 UK Armies then attack the Italian Corps and do 4 damage to it (2 each) bringing it down to a strength of 2.

The US Army in Hafia moves south and destroys the 1 strength Italian Army in Jerusalem, then liberates the city.
The US Corps then moves south and liberates the port of Aqaba.
Fighters then scout the road to Ar Rutbah and find nothing along it. So it the Army in Amman liberates the town of Maan.
The last of the towns along the Nile river is liberated.

A scouting Corps spots a German AT unit in Belgorod. It then moves next to the city across a river and in a forest.
The 2 Russian Armies outside of Kursk attack the occupying Hungarian Army and do 6 damage while one of the Russians takes 1 damage.
The southern Army then swings around the south side of the city, cutting off the road south and west. A Russian Corps moves by the north and cuts off the road to Orel.
A 3rd Russian Army moves up and does 2 damage to the Hungarian. The Corps north of Kursk then destroys the Hungarian Army and one of the Russian Armies liberates the city.
The Corps that cut the road to Orel then attacks a German Garrison in a marsh hex to its east doing 3 damage and forcing it to retreat.
2 Rocket attacks are made against a Hungarian Army 2 hexes north of Orel. While no damage is done, the defenders loose their entrenchment and have their morale and readiness reduce to 32% and 41%.
A horrendous air battle is fought over the Hungarian Army. Russian fighters take 5 damage, German fighters take 4 damage, Russian Tactical bombers take 2 and the Hungarian Army takes 2 damage.
A Russian Army then attacks the Hungarian and does 2 more damage.
Then a Russian Shock Army attacks, does 4 damage and forces the Hungarian Army (str 2) to retreat.
The Russian Heavy Tanks move to the northeast of Orel and attack a German Corps north of Orel twice forcing it to retreat after taking 6 damage.
T34s (Russian Tank) flow into the hole and attack Von Bock's HQ, destroying it while taking 1 damage.
The Shock Army then moves into the forest north of the Russian Tanks, where the Hungarians formerly were.
A Russian Army moves into Rzhev.
A Russian Corps moves into the forest north of Tartu and sees a German Corps in Tartu.
Another Russian Corps cautiously approaches Talinn and finds a German Corps in the city.
The Russian Corps then moves next to Talinn and notices the Admril Scheer in port. The Corps attacks the German Heavy Cruiser and does 3 damage.
The Russians move forward slowly and take Luga and make a uniform line doing so.
The Russians shatter a Finnish Corps with the combination of 3 rocket attacks, the Armored Train, Light Tanks and a Russian Army.

Allied Turn July 29, 1943

No activity seen in Persia. Though the Italian Armor is no longer visible.

No activity seen in the Greek theatre. (pun intended)

The Germans retake the Melitopol mines in the Ukraine.
The Germans launch 2 Tactical bomber raids against the Russian Tanks that destroyed Von Bock's HQ. German escort fighters take 2 hits, and each TAC bomber takes 1. A Russian fighter takes 6 damage, and the Tanks take 2.
The German line from east of Vyazma to Orel falls back out of view. Only a single German Army is left visible. I'm presuming they didn't fall back very far.
The Germans also fall back out of view of Luga.
A German Corps rails into Parnu.
The Admril Scheer leaves the Talinn port.


Allied Turn
Frozen in the Arctic. Rain in Finland. Clear Everywhere else.

The US takes Sirte, Libya leaving only 1 town (El Agheila) left.

4 Battleships shore bombard the Italian Corps on the coast north of Tirana. Morale and Readiness are significantly reduced, but nothing more.
3 Tactical bombing strikes are made against the Italian Corps on the coast north of Tirana. One group of German fighters from Nish intercepts twice facing off against one group of UK fighters.
Results: GE FTR -8, UK FTR -4, UK TAC#1 -2, IT Corps -6.*
The 2 UK Armies attack the Italian Corps shattering it with each doing 2 damage. The Army in Tirana races up the coastal road to just outside Cetinje where it encounters an Italian Garrison (lvl 2). No combat is fought.
The reconstituted 7th Armor lands at Tirana and moves north one hex, while a UK HQ moves into Tirana itself.
The Greek elite Army is rewarded with extra men and equipment.

A Russian Garrison in Araq, Persia moves forward to the crossroad and notes that Khorramabad is empty.
Near Rostov 2 Katyusha rocket attacks are launched at a Panzer Grenadier on the other side of the Don. It removes their entrenchment and does 1 damage along with morale damage.
A Russian Army then attacks across the Grenadiers across the Don, doing 2 damage and taking 3.
A group of Russian T34s moves up and attacks the Panzer Grenadiers doing 3 or 4 damage and forcing them to retreat. The Russian Tanks then fall back behind the infantry.
A Soviet Corps rushes the hole across the Don and attacks the Grenadiers doing 1 damage and forcing another retreat.
Another Russian Army moves to extend the line on the east side of the Don. Russian Katyusha and AA units slide northwest behind the Russian Armies.
A Russian Army moves south from Kantemirovka.
A Russian Cav scouts to the northwest of Voroshilovgrad and spots a German AT unit north of Stalino.
A Russian Corps plugs the gap between 2 Armies northeast of Voroshilovgrad.
A Russian Army moves south next to Belgorod on the west side of the river, while there is a Russian Corps next to the city on the east side of the river.
An 8 strength Corps moves northwest of Kursk into a forest hex and destroys a 4 strength German Garrison. Is sees a German Panzer unit 2 hexes south of Bryansk, and an Italian Corps south of the Panzers.
An Army moves into Orel, liberating the town.
Katyushas fire on a AT unit southwest of Rhzev. An Army north of the AT unit attacks it doing 3 damage and taking 1 back.
The Moscow defenders generally advance 1 hex forward, most of them staying in the forest and spy the German defensive line.
The Army in Rhzev then attacks the AT and does 3 damage to it.


* I consider these air battles wins, but I guess the computer doesn't as the UK's morale keeps slipping lower.

Previous Axis Turn:

No activity seen in Persia. Though the Italian Armor is no longer visible.

The Germans slightly shuffle the line a bit on the Greek front.

Two German and one Romanian Army destroy the Russian Corps that dared to cross the Don near Rostov. One of the German Armies takes a point of damage.
The Germans pull back from the easternmost portion of the Don.
The elite German Army that was in front of the main line pulls back. So do the visible Panzer and Italian Corps south of Bryansk.
In the north, the Germans fall back out of sight.



Allied Turn
Frozen in the Arctic. Clear Everywhere else.

Running low on easy (western Europe) targets, the American B17s in England find that the St. Etienne mines in Vichy France are within range and strike them for 7 damage.

The Americans creep ahead taking most of Transjordan.

A UK Army and Tank destroy an Italian GARR in Cetinje. Neither takes the town, and the units have to switch initial starting places, because the tank can't get back to the hex it started in.

In Persia a Russian GARR notices that Khorramabad is unoccupied so it cautiously approaches the town and retakes it.
Another Russian GARR moves out of Hamadan and notices that Kermanshah is occupied by an Iraqi GARR, and then moves next to it.

Soviet forces advance on the German defenses along the Don near Voroshilovgrad and move next to Rostov, but no attacks are launched.
A Russian Corps moves west of Kursk into the forest and spots an Italian Corps, German Panzer and German Tiger formations to the east of Konotop.
A Russian Army attacks the German AT unit in Belgorod, doing 2 damage while taking 1.
The Russians advance on the Germans making contact all along the Moscow front. However, only 2 attacks are launched, both at a Hungarian Army. The Hungarian takes 4 damage while 2 Russian Armies take 1 & 2 damage.
The Russians advance slowly south from Luga and see a German Corps in Pskov and one to the southeast of the city.
To the west, 2 Russian Corps park next to Talinn and the German Corps occupying the city.
At Tartu a Corps swings around the city and threatens to cut the road south as another takes its place and heavy tanks also roll up next to the city.
Katyushas fire twice at a Finnish Corps behind a fortification on the coast. Then a Russian Army attacks the Corps doing 2 damage.
The Armored Train moves next to the Finnish Corps (after a Russian Corps takes the hex and then falls back) and does another 2 damage to it.
The Russian Army and Light Tanks swap hexes. The Corps is then struck by Russian Tactical bombers and the Finnish fighters intercept: RU FTR -2, RU TAC -2, FIN FTR -3, FIN CORPS -2.
The Light Tanks then attack and do 2 more damage bringing the Finnish Corps down to a 2 strength.

Previous Axis Turn:
Frozen in the Arctic. Clear Everywhere else.

A German Corps (10 str, 2 exp) moves into Cetinje.
North and east of Scutari a German Panzer and Italian Mech swap places.

The Russian Corps attempting to flank Tartu is attacked by a Rail Gun and multiple German Corps. It is reduced to a 6 strength while only 1 German Corps took a single point of damage.
The Germans fall back again from the Moscow line, abandoning Vyazma. A Corps in Bryansk, and one behind a river to the northwest of the town remain.
East of Konotop a Russian Corps in the forest is attacked by German Panzers and Tigers (Tank & Hvy Tank). It is also bombed by a Tac bomber.
Results: RU FTR -3, RU Corps -7, GE FTR 1 hit, GE TAC 1 hit, GE Tank -3, GE Hvy Tank -1
Axis forces pull back a bit more from east of Rostov to extend their line behind the Don up river.

In Persia the Germans counter attack the 2 probing Russian Garrisons and take back Khorramabad. 3 German Tactical bombers are used in doing so.

A Russian Army and Light Tank do 3 damage to a low morale Finnish Corps southeast of Lahti. A Russian Corps then swaps places with the Light Tanks.
The Armored Train then does a point of damage to the Corps on the coast behind a fortification.
The damaged Russian Corps southwest of Tartu retreats. The Corps to the north of Tartu moves southwest to guard the river as an Army moves up just north of Tartu, and the Heavy Tanks move to the west side of the lake.
The Russians advance next to Pskov and open the road from Luga to Velikiye Luki.
Russian forces move next to Rostov.
2 volleys of rockets are fired at the Romanian Army in Voroshilovgrad. Then the Russian Army across the river from the town attacks doing 2 damage to the Romanian Army.

The T34s then occupy the mine and destroy the Garrison an earlier Corps attacked, but take 1 more damage for the effort.
A Russian Army attacks the AT unit in Belgorod, doing 2 damage (now str 6) to it.
2 Russian Armies advance and attack a German AT unit southwest of Rzhev and do 6 damage to it (str 2) at the cost of 1 damage to one of the Armies.
An Army hex swaps with one of the previous 2, and then shatters the AT unit. Sadly there is nothing available to exploit the gap and go after the partially exposed German HQ.
The Russian Moscow line advances 1 hex, choosing to keep a smooth line while following the faster Germans.
A Russian Army attacks a German Corps in Bryansk, removing an entrenchment, then backs away.
A Russian Mech attacks Bryansk twice doing a single point of damage, and taking a single point back, with both attacks. The Mech then pulls back.
Another Russian Mech attacks Bryansk twice exchanging 2 points of damage over both attacks, then it too backs off.
A unit of Russian Tanks then tries it's luck and does 3 damage while taking 1 back.
A Shock Army completes the job, earning itself a 2nd pip of experience in the process.
A Russian Army then occupies Bryansk, and finds a low supply and morale German Corps behind the city and attacks it doing 2 damage.

A German Corps (2 pips exp) in Cetinje attacks the UK Army south of it, both units take 2 damage.

The Germans retake the Voroshilovgrad mines by destroying the T34s.
An AT unit moves and attacks them exchanging 4 damage each. Followed by a Panzer Grenadier attacking them and exchanging 3 damage. A Germany Army completes the job exchanging 1 damage.
A Romanian Army then occupies mines, and does 2 damage to the Katyusha formation that was behind the T34s.
North of Rostov a Romanian Army does 3 damage to a Russian Army, and takes 2 back.
A Russian Corps northwest of Tartu is attacked, including by a rail gun south of Tartu, and takes 3 damage. The German Corps in Tartu takes 1.

The Russian Army in Bryansk attacks an elite German Army to its east. The German Army (str 11, 2 exp) is at supply 4 and 55% morale/readiness. The German Army takes 2 damage, and the Russian Army 1.
The Mech then attacks the same German Army and also does 2 for 1 back.
The Shock Army and the Tanks swap positions again, putting the Army on the front.
A Russian Corps moves south of the Mech and attacks the German Cavalry for 2 more damage and spots a Tiger formation to its south north of Konotop.
The Road to Talinn is cut as a 3rd Russian Corps shows up. The (repaired) Russian sub then attempts to blockade the Talinn port and spots 2 German subs near Helsinki.
A German Corps in Pskov is shelled by heavy artillery 3 times.
It is then attacked by 2 Russian Armies and a Shock Army, taking 3 damage (and getting a 2nd pip of exp), while doing a combined 4 damage back.
In Finland the Katyushas fire once at each of the 2 Finnish Corps on the line, removing entrenchment and damage morale and readiness.
The Armored Train does 3 damage to the southern Finnish Corps, and a Russian Army does 2 damage to the northern Finnish Corps. Lastly a Russian Corps does 1 more damage to the northern Finnish Corps.

Soviet morale increases due to landings in Italy.

Italy suffers morale loss due to the occupation of Palermo and Syracuse.

Turkey moves towards the Allies +8%.


* The plan was to remove the Corps ZOC so that the Army south of Cetinje could also attack the Panzers.
I messed up the move of the Landing Army and had it attack, when I should've just hex swapped (even thought it was 10 strength vs. the existing Army's 8, the existing one had HQ support and better morale/readiness.
Got a bit lucky that the Greek Corps shattered the Panzers, odds predicted it would have 1 strength left.

German Tactical bombers in Iraq attack an American Army in Ar Rutbah. German escorts engage American P-51 Mustangs (lvl 4 fighters).
Results: US FTR -2, US Army -2, GE FTR 1 hit, GE TAC 2 hits.

A Russian Corps north of Rostov is destroyed, doing 1 damage to 3 Axis units (2 Romanian Armies and a German Army I believe), including the Romanian Army occupying Rostov.
A 7 strength Panzer (with Morale and Readiness under 50%) moves southwest of Belgorod (and north of Kharkov), next to a full strength and high morale/readiness Russian Army.
The Germans again pull back 1 hex on the Moscow front, except for a Cavalry and Corps southwest of Bryansk and northeast of Smolensk.

A 2nd strike is ordered against Baghdad, the Germans do not intercept and Baghdad takes 4 damage and the bombers are unharmed.

The Axis do some line shuffling and reinforcing.
The only attacks are 2 German Destroyers versus the Soviet Sub, blockading Talinn. The first DD causes a dive, the second does a point of damage to the Russian Sub. Sadly this means that the port of Talinn is open again.
The 5 strength AT in Belgorod and the 2 strength Panzer to the southeast are reinforced to 7. Both are still at relatively low morale and supply 4.
An Italian Corps rails south of Catanzaro, in the immediate path of the Americans.

The Italian Corps south of Catanzaro is shelled by a Battle Cruiser and 4 Battleships. The USS Arkansas is actually able to do a point of damage to the Italian Corps. The Corps Readiness and Morale is dropped to 33% & 21% from about 50% each.
The Greek Cruiser scouts the western coast of Italy. A German Panzer unit is now stationed in Rome.
A 7 strength US Corps attacks the 5 strength Italian Special Forces unit in Marsala to no effect, other than to remove a level of entrenchment.

B17s hit the Iraqi town of Tikrit doing 5 damage. German interceptors take 4 damage (3 from US FTR & 1 from US bombers), while US escorts dake 2 damage.

The Romanian Corps (lvl 1) north of Stalino is attacked by a Corps and 2 Armies. It takes 7 damage and retreats southwest, while 1 Russian Army takes 1 damage.
Russian Tanks (9 str) move into the gap north of Stalino and the Romanian HQ occupying it. The Tanks attack the HQ twice doing 8 damage and taking 1 back.
Russian Tactical bombers then shatter the Romanian HQ without any interception.
Russian units then close all the gaps on the line north of Rostov.
3 Russian Armies attack a Romanian Army northwest of Rostov doing 4 damage to it, with each of the Russian Armies taking 1.
2 Russian Armies and 1 Corps next to Belgorod destroy the 7 str German AT occupying the town, with the Corps taking 1 damage. The town is taken and the German Panzers are cut off.
A Russian Corps moves next to the vulnerable Russian Cavalry Corps and then hex swaps to both protect it and make it harder to rescue the Panzers.
A Russian Army moves into the forest west of Kursk and east of Konotop and spots a German Heavy Tank northeast of Konotop and south of the German Panzer unit already accounted for.
Russian Heavy Tanks and Tanks charge the German position and destroy the German Tigers with one strike from each Russian (Tank & Hvy Tank). Russian Heavy Tanks take 2 damage, and the Tanks just 1.

Allied Turn November 6, 1943

Previous Axis Turn:
Frozen in the Arctic. Clear Everywhere else.

The Italian Corps defending the Toe of Italy is reinforced.

The eastern side of the Greek front pulls back again to defend Sofia, Bulgaria.

In Russia, the German air force comes out to play.
North of Vitebsk a German Tactical bomber does 1 damage to a Russian Corps. I'm not sure if the bomber took a hit or not.
West of Bryansk a Russian fighter takes 3 damage defending a group of T34s. A German Fighter takes a hit and the German Tactical bombers take 2 (1 from RU FTR & 1 from Tanks), while the Tanks take 1 damage.
The cut off (7 strength) German Panzers southeast of Belgorod are put back in supply by their own efforts along with help from a Hungarian Army and a Corps of Panzer Grenadiers.
The Russian Corps is shattered but the cost is 3 damage to the Panzers, 1 to the Hungarian Army and 2 to the Panzer Grenadiers.
The heaviest counter attack is launched against the Russian tanks north of Stalino. Unescorted German Medium Bombers are intercepted by Russian fighters. The Russians take 1 damage, while an unknown amount is done to the Germans.
Italian Tactical and Medium Bombers also attack the Russian T34s. They are followed up by a German Panzer Grenadier which attacks twice and twice gets hit twice by defensive firing Katyushas.
The Russian Tanks are reduced to 1 damage (and then shattered by a German Army) while the Panzer Grenadiers take 8 damage.
Last, and least, 2 German Tactical bombers attack the Swamp King (Partisans) near Rowno.
The Germans retreat from Rostov.



Allied Turn

The American Corps take Marsala with the help of a Tactical bomber. One of the Corps takes a point of damage.
The Italian Corps defending the Toe is attacked by American Medium and Tactical Bombers.
This is followed up by strikes from HMS Illustrious, HMS Formidable, and USS Ranger which do a point of damage with each strike to the badly shaken unit and eventually destroy it.
The US Army in Messina moves past the Rangers to attack the Italian Garrison in Catanzro, and does 2 damage to the Garrison.
The Rangers then swap hexes with a large formation 155mm Howitzers.

3 UK Tactical bombers strike a Bulgarian Corps south of Sofia, doing 8 damage and taking 1 back to 2 of the formations.
The elite Greek Army then destroys the Bulgarian Corps.

The Russians liberate the abandoned Rostov.
The Russian Army in Belgorod and a Russian Corps destroy the 3 strength/4 supply Panzers to the southeast of Belgorod.
A 6 strength Romanian Army is attacked by 2 Russian Armies and takes 2 or 3 damage then retreats out of the forest north of Taganrog.
A Russian Corps does 2 damage to a Romanian Garrison further up the Don river.
A Russian 8 strength Heavy Armor attacks the Garrison in Konotop and does 4 damage. A Russian Corps moves south and destroys the Garrison.
The Heavy Armor takes its 2nd attack and does 4 to an Italian Corps and forces it to retreat.
A Russian Army moves into Konotop and spots an Italian HQ behind the 5 strength Italian Corps.
An 11 strength Heavy Armor moves into the forest north of Konotop and destroys a full strength but low morale German Corps to its southwest with 2 attacks.
A 6 strength Mechanized unit is then ordered into the breach. It attacks the Italian Corps, doing 3 damage and forcing it to retreat north (right next to the 11 strength heavy tanks).
Feeling bold it then attacks a full strength German Corps (supply 3) and does 3 damage to them as well.
With the hole opened by the Italian Corps retreat, (8 strength) T34s poor through the opening, attack and destroy the 5 strength Italian HQ.
The Army in Konotop then destroys the beat up (str 2) Italian Corps.
The Tanks then take their 2nd attack against the German Corps the Mech attacked, do 3 damage and force it to retreat into the forest to the southeast.
A Russian Corps moves into the abandoned town of Sumy, then south along the road next to Kharkov. It attacks the Garrison in the city doing 2 while taking 1.*
A 7 strength Army then moves next to the city and destroys the Garrison, but doesn't have the movement points left to take the city.*
East of Parnu, a Russian Heavy Tank advances, does 3 damage to a German Corps then falls back to it's original position.
A Mechanized unit then moves forward and does 5 damage to the German Corps, forcing it to retreat south of Parnu while taking 2 back.
Pskov is shelled by heavy artillery 3 times and then attacked by a Shock Army and 3 Armies. The defending German Corps takes 5 damage and does 1 back to 2 of the Armies.
In Finland Katyushas attack the Finnish Army on the north part of the line.
This is followed by a Russian Corps exchanging 1 damage with the Finnish Army then hex swapping with the Light Tanks who do another 2 damage to the Army.
The Russian Army then does 3 damage to the Finnish Army.
The Armored Train then does 2 damage to the Finnish Corps on the southern end of the line.

A Sub raids the UK to USSR Convoy for 13 MPP

* I made a bit of a greedy mistake. The Army should've attacked first, and the Corps should've skipped getting Sumy, attacked 2nd and move into Kharkov.

A Hungarian Army retreats into Kharkov (I'm regretting now my poor move in not being able to take it last turn).
The Germans and the Romanians dress their Taganrog to Stalino line.
The line south of Smolensk curls back towards the strategic city.
A German Corps attacks a Russian Mech east of Parnu, doing 2 damage and taking 1.
North of Smolensk, a Russian Army takes 5 damage and retreats as German forces attack it. A Panzer Grenadier takes 1 damage back from the Army.

Ukrainian Nationalists rise up and damage a Russian Armor, Mechanized, HQ and the Swamp King (Partisan).

The Italian Garrison north of Catanzaro is softened up by 4 Battleships and then destroyed by 2 American bombers (1 Medium & 1 Tactical)
The Italian Garrison in Catanzaro is shelled by howitzers and then destroyed by the US Army to its south. The Army advances through the town and into the hex north of it that was cleared by the bombers.
A Light Cruiser finds an Italian Corps in Salerno and an Italian Garrison in Naples.

3 UK Tactical bombers go after the German Corps south of Sofia, before it can entrench, and do 9 damage to it. One bomber takes 2 damage, and another 1.
The elite Greek Army then shatters the remnants, and a UK Corps moves into the hex. Even though Sofia is occupied by the Bulgarian HQ, it is not attacked as it has 5 levels of entrenchment.
The other Greek Army attacks Kavalla and does 2 damage.
7th Armor (UK Tanks) drives along the road and supports the advancing UK Corps to the southeast.
The Polish destroyer moves to blockade the port to Cetinje.

A Russian Corps and Cavalry destroy a Garrison along the Don, south of Kharkov.
2 Russian Armies attack the 9 strength Hungarian Corps in Kharkov doing 4 damage, and taking 1 back to 1 Army.
3 Corps then move next to Kharkov, surrounding it on 5 sides and cutting it off.
A Corps moves south of Konotop and finds a 4 strength German Corps low on supply and Morale. An 8 strength Heavy Tank then rumbles south and destroys the German Corps, but takes a point of damage back.
A Russian Army and elite Heavy tank advance towards Kiev and destroy a German Army along the way. Both the Heavy Tank and Army take a point of damage in doing so. A German paratrooper is spotted northeast of Kiev.
An Army and 2 Mechanized units advance on and take the town of Gomel, destroying 2 Garrisons along the way. Both Mech units take a point of damage.
South of Smolensk, an elite Shock Army does 3 damage to a 9 strength German Corps and takes 1 back.
3 Russian Corps attack a German Cavalry division north of Vitebsk. They do 6 damage bringing the Cavalry unit down to a strength of 1 and it flees southeast towards Smolensk.
2 of the Corps then advance south on the outskirts of Vitebsk, just behind the river. There is now only a single rail line feeding all the units defending Smolensk.
East of Parnu, the 6 strength Mech retreats behind the lines.
Pskov is shelled and bombed by Russian Tactical bombers. The former removes entrenchment the later does a point of damage.
This is followed by a human wave attack, starting with a Shock Army and followed by no less than 4 regular Armies.
They combine to do 7 damage (with 3 being done by the Shock, and 1 each from the rest), bringing the defenders down to a 2 strength but they hold on. The Armies take 5 damage in total (3 take 1 dmg, and 1 takes 2 dmg).
In Finland, the Russians concentrate on the northern Corps and shatter it after attacking it with Katyushas, Light Tanks, Army and a Corps. Sadly the mud prevents the Russians from advancing into the hex.
The Armored Train only does 1 damage to the southern Corps without the help of the rockets removing entrenchment.

Turkey continues moving toward the Allies +12%

Italian National Morale suffers as the Allies enter Southern Italy.

A German Garrison and Tactical bomber strike the Swamp King Partisan for 1 damage (via the TAC).

4 Battleships shore bombard the Italian AA gun northwest of Rome guarding the port of Civitavecchia
The USAF Piñata, flying from Sicily, scouts the center of Italy and spots the RM Roma (BB) in Ancona.
4 Amphibs attack the AA and it is finally destroyed by a landed US Army. US Rangers and 2 Corps make further landings to the north and south of Rome cutting the city off.*
The USS Ranger and the HMS Illustrious then move into calm coastal waters on the west and east side of Italy, respectively, and then sink Roma with 4 air strikes. Ranger takes 4 damage to her air wing, while Illustrious takes 1.
American Medium and Tactical bombers from Sicily strike the Panzers in Rome each taking a point of damage and only removing the Panzers entrenchment and reducing morale/readiness.

A 2nd strike is made at Ramadi, Iraq doing 4 damage to the town. The same German fighters intercept taking 3 damage from a different squadron of American fighters who take 2 damage.
Another wing of B17Gs attack Baghdad doing 4 damage to the city. Their 2nd strike hits Najaf Iraq doing 5 damage.
The American ground forces creep a bit closer to the Germans in Iraq.

A Russian Corps advances on Khorramabad, Persia and attacks the Iraqi Garrison doing 2 damage. The Russian Corps is defended by an AA unit behind it.
Another Russian Corps spots that Kermanshah is unoccupied and then rushes in and seizes the town.
The Russians advance west a hex in south taking an abandoned Taganrog. Weather (rain and mud) prevents making contact with the enemy line.
2 Armies attack Kharkov and do 3 damage to the defending Hungarian Army, while 1 of the Russian Armies takes 1 damage.
An elite Corps moves north to completely surround Kharkov and does another point of damage to the Hungarian Army.
This weakens the Hungarians enough for the other 3 Russian Corps to attack it bringing the Hungarians down to a 1 strength while the 3 Corps take 1, 1 & 2 damage doing so.
A Mech and a Corps move next to Chernigov and do 3 damage to the Hungarian Corps, while the Mech takes 1 back.
4 Russian Corps attack Vitebsk and destroy the Garrison defending the town, one of the Corps then liberates it as the Smolensk defenders continue to be squeezed.
The Finnish Corps behind the fortification is attacked by Katyusha rockets, a Corps, Light Tanks and a new formation of T34s. The defenders take 4 damage and the Light Tanks earn themselves a 3rd pip of experience.
The Russian Corps advanced to the north of the fortifications before attacking, making the first advancement westward in some time. The position is a bit precarious next to 2 Finnish Corps and a Finnish Army though.

Turkey to the Allies +10%

German sub raids the UK -> USSR convoy for 11 damage.

* I had 3 options: 1) Attack the Panzer in Rome directly, 2) Go for Naples or 3) Attack the AA and cut off Rome.
1. Would have been very 'iffy' I think. It would have also made for a much more expensive proposition in that I would have had to soak off the AA fire with the blimp (and wouldn't have found that the Roma moved south
and made herself vulnerable) and Carrier Air. Worse if I used the Battleships to try and reduce the Panzer's morale & readiness they would have taken a lot damage from Rome making an already expensive expedition much more so.
Lastly I don't know if it would have worked. Not sure the Amphibs would do enough and then landing only 2 units to the south to attack with. Maybe it would have worked, but if it didn't it would be a disaster.
Going for Naples was the safest bet, but had the least payoff for the investment of putting all those troops back on Amphibs (one of the Corps was on a long range Amphib from Libya).

Cruisers and the USAAC Piñata scout out Italy up to Livorno and Ancona.
1 US Medium bomber and 2 Tactical bombers strike the Panzer in Rome for 2 damage. The Medium bomber and 1 Tactical bomber take a point of damage.
American ground forces near Rome (Rangers, Army and 2 Corps) go all out and shatter the Panzer defending the city.
The Rangers take 2 damage in the first assault, then move north and liberate Siena. One Corps takes Rome and the other moves east to break access to southern Italy.
In the south, one US Army rolls through Salerno and into Naples, with civilians waving Italian and US flags.
The other US Army moves through Taranto and stops between Bari and Brindisi.

UK tanks attack a Bulgarian Garrison west of Sofia and do 2 damage and force them to retreat north. The Armor follows them and does 2 more damage. A Greek Army takes spot the tanks left.

Lead elements of the US Army encounter German positions in Iraq. Reconnaissance elements report that the German anti tank unit is very low on supplies (supply 1).

The Russian Corps flees out of Kermanshah, Persia.
Another Russian Corps does 3 damage to the Iraqi Garrison in Khorramabad, Persia.
The Hungarians in Kharkov stubbornly hold out another turn. They are reduced to a 1 strength again, and manage to damage an Army and a Corps.
A Russian Army advances to the suburbs of Kiev.
Chernigov is liberated by a Corps, Mech and a Tank, destroying a Hungarian Garrison.
Russian forces advance and make contact with the Germans again, this time right outside of Smolensk.
Pskov is not attacked in the frozen snow, instead the Russians spread out further south threatening a slow encirclement.
The Russians concentrate on the Finnish Corps behind the fortifications and do 4 damage. The Katyushas are rested and the Light Tanks are maxed out to strength 13.

In Yugoslavia and Bulgaria, the Germans do some line reshuffling.

In Iraq, 2 German TAC bombers strike a US HQ. The bombers are unescorted and intercepted by American fighters. Both bombers take 2 hits (1 from fighters & 1 from HQ AA) of unknown damage, still the HQ takes 4 damage.

The Germans pull back from Smolensk, abandoning the city and tightening their defense yet again.
In the south they continue to pull back towards Dnepropetrovsk.
A German Tactical bomber attacks the Swamp King, no damage reported on either side.
The German Corps defending Pskov retreats and is replaced by a Rail Gun. (?)
German cruisers again attempt to bombard the Armored Train and a Russian Corps outside Talinn.

In the Crimea a Russian Corps, defending the road back to Sevastopol takes 5 damage from a German Corps and Panzer Grenadier. Both the German Corps and the Grenadier take 2 damage.

The Germans in Iraq destroy an American Army.*
A German Corps takes 2 damage, A Panzer takes 2 damage and a Tactical bomber takes 2 hits and a German fighter takes 1 hit. American interceptors take 3 (2 from the TAC, 1 from GE FTR).


* I probably got greedy in killing the AT last turn and left myself open for a counter attack with a unit that will now cost full price to replace.
On the plus side though, I can afford to loose a unit, particularly in Iraq whereas the ones he looses can't make it back there.

The US organizes it's line in Italy.

UK Tactical bombers do 4 damage to a Bulgarian Garrison northwest of Plovdiv.
The Greeks advance a hex north and northwest of Skopje, with another Greek Corps moving north to fill the open spot on the south end of the moving line.
A Greek Corps moves next to Plovdiv and the damage Garrison, then UK Armor destroys the weakened Garrison and the Greek Corps does 3 damage to the Garrison in Plovdiv and forces it to retreat.

The 4 Iraqi towns the Germans are clustered around are all bombed by B17s. Each town takes 3 or 4 damage, and 1 bomber takes 1 damage in the strikes.
An American Tactical bomber hits the airfield of German Tactical bombers southeast of Baghdad and shatters them with 4 damage.

The Russians destroy the Finnish Corps behind the fortifications, take the hex with Tank then destroy a Garrison behind it. The mud prevents the Russians from taking the 2nd hex though.
Russian Tactical bombers hit a (supply 4) Panzer south by southeast of Pskov. They are met by German interceptors. Results: RU FTR -2, RU TAC -3, GE FTR -3, GE TANK -2.
2 Russian Armies then attack the Panzer and do 4 damage to it while taking 1 back each.
East of Parnu, a Russian Heavy tank destroys a German Garrison in the forest, then pulls back to stay in good supply while a Russian Corps moves into the hex the Tanks attacked from.
2 Russian Corps, one in Vitebsk and the other to northwest attack a German Cavalry Division doing 5 damage and force it to retreat east.
A 3rd Russian Corps attacks it doing 2 more damage and forcing another retreat.
A Russian Special Forces unit attacks a Garrison (entrenchment 3, lvl 2 INF Weapons) in Polotsk and does 2 damage, but takes 1 back unexpectedly.
Northeast of Orsha a German Corps (with 0 AA) is bombed by Russian Tactical bombers. Air battle Results: RU FTR -3, RU TAC -1, GE FTR -3, GE CORPS -3
The Corps is then attacked by 3 Russian Armies and is reduced to a 2 strength, 2 of the Russian Armies take a point of damage back.
Near Gomel, a Russian Army attacks a German AT unit across a river in a marsh. The AT takes 3 damage and retreats.
A Mech crosses the river, does 1 damage to a Garrison then hex swaps with the Army that attacked the AT.
A Russian Armor unit moves south of Mogilev and then destroys the Garrison.
North of Kiev a Russian Mech attacks the German paratrooper and does 4 damage to it. A Russian Army follows up and does another point of damage and forces the paratroopers to retreat.
A Garrison in Cherkasy takes 2 damage from a Russian Corps.
Russia liberates Poltava with an Army (-1 dmg) and a Tank, destroying a Garrison.
A Russian Heavy tank then rumbles down and destroys the Garrison in Cherkasy, but takes a point of damage doing so.
Russian Paratroopers land southeast of Cherkasy. Russian fighters take 1 damage escorting the paratroopers, while Romanian interceptors take 4 damage.
The paratroopers then move into Cherkasy and the Russians have a toe hold across the Dnepr.
In the Ukraine, the Russians rush forward trying to keep pace with the Germans. Contact is made at Kremenchuk and Dnepropetrovsk, but they are only Corps without any expectation of doing damage so no combat is initiated.
In the Crimea 3 Russian Corps attack the German Panzer Grenadier and do 3 damage to it, but take 3, 2 and 1 damage back.

Near Polotsk a German Panzer Grenadier does 4 damage to Russian Corps, but takes 2 damage back.
Near Mogilev a Russian Tank takes 4 damage while 2 German Corps each take 2.
The Russian paratroopers in Cherkasy suffer the brunt of a heavy German counter attack and are eventually shattered.*
The price to do so for the Germans is relatively high with the following damage: Tactical Bomber 2 hits, Fighter 1 hit, Heavy Tank 4 dmg, Tank 2 dmg, Mech 1 dmg. Russian Fighter takes 1 damage in the air battle.

A Russian sub moves next to the damaged Destroyer, then partakes of the better part of valor and retreats.
The abandoned towns of Ostrov and Tartu are liberated.
A German Corps south of the small lake between Parnu and Tartu takes 5 damage and retreats into the forest to the southwest while doing 2 to a Russian Corps and 1 to a Russian Heavy Tank.
A German Corps 2 hexes southwest of Ostrov is destroyed by the combined attacks of a Russian Army, 2 Shock Armies and a Tank. 1 Shock Army and the Tank take a point of damage.
A German Corps in Orsha is targeted by Russian Medium Bombers and 2 Tactical Bombers. A brutal air battle ensues: RU FTR#1 -5, RU FTR #2 -2, RU MedBmbr -2, RU TAC#1 -1, RU TAC#2 -1, GE FTR#1 -4, GE FTR#2 -3, GE Corps -4

A Russian Corps then moves into Orsha and attacks Von Kuchler's HQ to the southwest doing 4 damage while taking 1 back.
Von Kuchler's HQ is then bombed by a 3rd Tactical bomber for 3 damage (HQ str 3). German interceptors (GE FTR#2) take 2 damage from Russian escorts while the Russian Tactical bombers take 1 damage.
Russian Special Forces (-2 dmg) and a Army destroy a Garrison occupying Polotsk, a Russian Corps then moves to occupy the town.
South of Mogilev a German 8 strength (2 exp) Corps takes 3 damage from a Russian Mech and retreats west. The Russian Mech takes 1 damage.
The Russian Mech then attacks the Slovakian Corps in Babruysk doing 2 damage and taking 1. A Russian Army follows up doing another point of damage to the Slovaks.
A German AT unit northwest of Kiev is attacked by a Russian Army. The AT takes 2 damage, the Army 1.
The abandoned Dnepropetrovsk is taken, but the mud makes the going very slow in the Ukraine.
Zaporizhia has also been abandoned, but the Russian Army can't reach it.
They do reach the mines at Melitopol.

* Mud on my turn in the Ukraine prevents Russian forces from mounting any kind of breakthrough to go after the damaged German Heavy Tanks.
