Very nice start to the Sub War. I order about 10 SS to change their patrol areas reflecting the movement of ships from Hong Kong and the Philippines south.

As mentioned previously, we have the prolonged battle between BCs Hiei and Kirishima versus CL Boise and 4 modern DD.

The sinkings total for the opening, so far, is nearing 100 ships. My personal goal is crushing 200+ in the first month of the war. Looks like we are well on our way to that number and then exceeding it.

That is a partial update. Have to head for work!

I know we have planned on a slow game but this is like watching the paint dry or sitting and watching the cars rust.

Air and CV Ops

CV Ops
Kido Butai
The Kido Butai strikes PH on the 9th and successfully moves away without observation on the 10th. It will refuel on the 11th. We threw 125 Kates at PH on the 9th and there are still 75 or so airframes left with 130 pilots backing them up.

CARDIV2
December 9th
The TF moves south of Mindanao. The CVs continue their solid work as strikes hit CL Boise with 3 Bombs, DD Stockton with another, and then sink an AVP and 3 CVLs. Since we have Hiryu, Soryu and two CAVs, I keep one of the four carrying TTs while the other three go with bombs. This certainly stretches out the Torps.

December 10th
The carriers move aggressively south to just east of Balikpapan. Bad weather holds attacks in the morning but the afternoon sees a strike of 38 Zero and 24 Vals SINK DDs Trippe and Stockton. NICE!

CVLs
The 9th sees the 3 CVLs provide LRCAP over Mersing with this TF then moving to Pontianak, Borneo on the 10th. No strikes flown due to bad weather.

I shall join CARDIV2 and the 3 CVLs tomorrow north of Soerabaja. Nothing will be able to fight through this combined force. They will protect the Landing at Palembang on the 12th and CRUSH any shipping within range.


Air Ops
After taking Catobato on the 7th, I move a Chutai of 12 Vals to the base as well as 16 Mavis. The Vals sink an ACM and AKL on the 9th and then a Tanker on the 10th.

Manila
As described earlier, two massed strikes hit Manila on both the 9th and 10th. Nice results come from them. One may add Seal, Spearfish, Sealion and Skipjack to the sunk SS list. Additionally a PG and AM are sunk with 2 SS and an AO further struck.

Move half of these striking planes and Zeros out of Formosa and down to Brunei on the 10th. They will go into action on the 11th from there.

Luzon
Continue strikes on Clark and Iba during these days.

Malaya
Launch lots of bomber sorties against Alor Star, Kota Bharu, and several other targets all hitting troops that are in Strategic Mode.

LRCAP protects Mersing.

B-17s
My opponent is using his B-17s. Three days of B-17 attacks on Kido Butai see at least 6-8 destroyed and nearly all others damaged. The Philippine B-17s are used against Cotabato and Brunei's AFs. Some fighters oppose each strike and we see continued attrition of these planes.


Those are the air and CV Ops for the two day period.

Been doing that! Got the pond cleaned up and operational last night.

Cleaned up all my rifles and pistols this morning as well as organized the ammo as well.

Ground Operations

December 9th
Capture the following bases: Ocean Isle, Guam, Miri, and Nauru.

Malacca
My Paras land and shock attack again for a 1-1 result. No luck capturing the base but things do look promising for the taking of the peninsula.

Land at Mersing with the 4th ID.

Hong Kong
I weakened the Hong Kong assault force and may regret that. Launch my first attack and get a 1-3 result. Hmmm...

December 10th
Mersing
We easily capture the base in a 6-1 attack. The 3 BBs bombard as well as about 80 planes. Two units surrender while the two Aussie Brigades do me to huge favor of retreating to Johore Bharu. The door is wide open to move due west and cut the peninsula!

Malacca
The Paras complete landing and attack again at a 1-2 result. Doesn't matter. The hex is contested and nothing can move through it. BANZAI!

Rabaul
A large Fast TF lands a Regiment and Base Force at Rabaul.

Ternate
A Fast TF lands here as well.

China
The Japanese attack vectors begin to come into focus as we win three successive attacks:
1. 77,58 sees a JDA for 14-1 inflicting 2399 Chinese Cas (140 Squads)
2. 87,45 gets a JSA for 13-1 inflicting 4958 Cas (279 Squads)
3. 89,39 gets a JSA for 2-1 doing 2697 Cas (143 Squads)

Those attacks equal a month of Chinese replacements...

Here are current Operations in the Philippines and Malaya:

Philippines
The 14th Army is tasked with taking Luzon. Tomorrow will see landings in Northern Luzon with then an additional landing at Naga. The army has 2 ID and 2 Brig plus lots of Support Units.

Malaya
We're moving out of Singora, Patani, and Kuantan.

Mersing has movement going due west to cut the RR. The 55th is being lifted from Kuantan to Mersing while the Imperial Guards and 5th ID will drive down from Singora. Near CRB is two full ID as well as a BUNCH of Artie!

Central DEI

LOTS of movement here:

The two Carrier TFs are moving for their link-up. We gonna be shooting at LOTS of ships and warships. Once they link-up then the move is towards Palembang for Cover there.

Palembang
A small STF of 4 DDs will move into Palembang first to clear it. This TF is followed by two Fast TF carrying an entire Brigade and two Base Forces. I really, truly hope the massed bombardment of the landing will so disorganize whatever is present that we can easily take this vital base with a deliberate attack on the 12th. Any planes at the AF will get smacked as well. This will be good.

Any TF circled in Black is a STF.

Central Pacific

The Wake TF moves away from the Marshalls and sets course. It shall be covered by a small STF of 2 CL and 4 DDs and the 3 CVEs (plus a CL and 5 DDs) who carry 63 Planes between them.

The Midway IF is loading at Guam and Saipan.

The Americans begin reinforcing Wake and Midway earlier in this Mod. Neither will be a pushover. Each Invasion force is carrying a Japanese SNLF Assault Brigade (These are 3 old SNLF units plus a small HQ section with an AV of about 200. They are brittle and not of much use on defense.) and a BF or two.

I have a BB (Ise or Hyuga) embedded in each Invasion Force to help break-up the defenders during the landing.

SE Pacific

We've landed at Rabaul and should take that tomorrow.

Landings set for Manus, Madang, Buin, Tulagi, and Lunga.

The TFs that grabbed Ocean and Nauru pick up their troops and move for Tarawa and Tabitueau.

REAL chance for Allied invention in these locations. This has led to small TFs with light troops so any losses will not be too great.

China

Boulder is just a tad to the left of The Twilight Zone. I swear, driving into that town (my son is at CU, and he HATES it! [:D] )makes your hair stand up on your arms. I'm not kiddin!
