I guess I've underestimated Ambon's coast defense in every campaign I've played and I've always forgot to include a couple of light cruisers in the amphib convoy... oh well, losing a couple of freighters isn't nice but I will just swallow it...

I've started recon over Port Blair a week ago or so and have not only discovered a strong ground presence there but also convoys going in and out... by now there are reported 13 units but only 10000 troops in total so we are talking mostly small base forces I guess... a cruiser squadron from Singapore was ordered to move North trying to catch some shipping... I'm not happy to engage the Royal Navy with their cruisers but thought it was worth a try and the first convoy we meet is still unloading, probably motorized support that is unloading really slow... PC Jumna looked like a small cruiser in the replay, it's a 5pt Indian PC...

CM Abdiel
would have loved to kill that minelayer, IIRC it's the fastest ship in the game going 40kn... that would explain why a couple of hundred IJN shells all missed the CM while Abdiel was hitting three of my heavy cruisers with 4inch shells doing no damage... no minefield was detected so the CM might have just arrived and we intervened with the minelaying...

and the last target is the worthiest one, two big xAP that seem to carry arty, AA or coast defense units as we kill no less than a hundred guns on the ships together with some more motorized support most likely... sending those cruisers North was definitely worth it as we killed 10 ships plus their loads for no damaged within our ships... it really amazes me as Mundy keeps trying to defend far forward like he does at Rabaul and Port Moresby... recon shows troops at Moulmein, lots of troops at Rangoon and he also pumps troops into Port Blair which only has a level 1 airfield at the moment but can be built up quite quickly if he has the engineers to do so...

probing bombardment... first I thought I'm going to wait for another two tank Rgts but have decided to deliberate attack tomorrow... 450 Dutch av does look more than it really is as it's just the sum of all those small units that aren't really combat worthy... I'm glad Mundy is defending at Batavia as I never do this as the Allied, as soon as the Japanese are attempting to land on Java I retreat all Dutch inf units into the mountains into prepared positions and I've had some really nice good results with them when 600+ av are holding a base in the mountains and the IJ only brings one or two divisions plus smaller units...
