somewhat caved in foxhole

Probably should of showed this pic at beginning. After heading back to village, turned around to get shot looking up Hill 27. The Japanese stone stands as a silent sentinel for those you fought and died here.

Good stuff, Mark VII. I just wish that whoever made that Oka Force memorial had been better in their English. I'm assuming that it was made by Japan after the war. Jeez, you'd think they could finally get someone who knew how to translate Japanese into English well.[:D]

Any unexploded ordance or mines being found still? I know they are not uncommon in other areas, but with all the heavy fighting in such a small place I would expect them to still turn up from time time, and with all the gathering of war debrie going on I bet some have been seriously hurt if not killed by such things.

Yes the Japanese are putting a lot of money into the Solomons, mainly to buy fishing rights for tuna and to "buy" the Solomons vote in the International Whaling Commission. Not a good state of affairs.

Would be cool to do more battlefield tours. Only one i've done to a minor extent was the Normandy beaches. Some of the Pacific isalnds would be cool since they are so remote I bet some cool stuff still survives.

Well, the last pair turned out to be fakes... BTW, that was a TANK standing on the bottom of Chuuk lagoon![X(]

Actually, according to the site I stole that picture from, it was deck cargo on a Japanese cargo ship that was sunk during Operation Hailstone.

I think I have seen that page before and what I considered funny is the fact that he disses 'The Thin Red Line' because they made it on New Zealand and not on Guadalcanal. And that despite the fact that he mentioned quite some life ammunition and mines still spread all around the place [8|]
