Is Manila worth holding?

The question of Manila

Once again im posting a message about long term strategy and the question of importance for holding Manila. So far Manila has the PI garrision 500 AP plus two indian divisions (400 AP) that gives a total assualt point strengh of 900. Camranh Bay now has nearly 200 AK's and AP's. A number UK divisions have also arrived there.

Options 1. Hold Manila at all cost,
Send in more British reinforcements and supplies , total assult points will be 1000.

Option 2. Buy all the PI garrisons with political points (3000) and pull out of Manila. Regroup and land again on the PI at a later time.

What do you think gentlemen. Im keen on option 2

Well this would be one of the central "strategic" questions of the game !!!

IF IF IF Manilla can be held ( and that means held without losing it - i.e. really holding it ) then it absolutely should be. For WPO. Manilla was always the primary if not the only objective of the phase II operations. Manilla was to be the "big base" from which phase III ( the blocade of Japan ) would be launched. So, if Manilla can be held, then the US Battlefleet has its base and the phase II objectives are already met.

Now, if Manilla cannot be held ... then throwing more material away at this point would not necessarily make sense, unless you were buying time for something very specific to be accomplished.

So anyway, I don't think it is as much of a question of SHOULD Manilla be held, but CAN Manilla be held. If it CAN be held, then it SHOULD be held.

Manilla gives you a 4 to 1 multiplier for your AV. So if you can bring in 1 AV for every 4 AV he can bring in then you are reinforcing equally. But then what about supply and loses ? You also need to be able to bring in enough supply to at least control the amount of down side movement to your supply total. If all of these things can be done. Then Manilla can probably hold and thus it should be attempted.

Now if the Japanese Battlefleet can be in the Manilla area to the exclusion of anything of the Allied side that can offset the Japanese Battlefleet, then all bets are off. The Japanese Battlefleet must be kept occcupied in order for you to be able to ensure you can get supplies in ( not to mention reinforcements ).

Fighting for Manilla could become the be-all-end-all Battle and if you can hold out - it becomes an attrition battle that will be greatly in your favor.

So, the key judgement call is, can you hold out ? You should have more data than I do about this since you're playing the game. But figure out what he can get there by when and what you can get there by when .... and then make your decision.

Good luck - we will be watching !!!
