Pretty impressive looking [8D] Those are the same 11" guns used on Scharnhost, no?

Iron Storm's Dutch BCs are of a different design generation though, built by the Germans in 1914-1915. The website blurb for them is >>>here<<< but here's an ingame pic:

She can make 27 knots normally but 1 point of sys damage brings her down a knot. [8|] This is from a game I'm playing versus the AI.

Wow, those are more than a match for the IJN BC's. Hey, their armor is almost as good as the Yamashiro/Ise classes..

In the IS 1 playtest AAR, it took hundreds of hits to sink one...

Given "Matador" - shouldn't it the British making the first strikes?

(The CW planned defense of Malaya was to attack the Japanese bases in Thailand, probably pre-emptively...)

Or are you assuming that the japanese have wind of matador, and are making a pre-emptive pre-emptive strike....[;)]

ok - looks like I found out what's wrong
I can't load in bases which coordinates were changed in new map in comparison to stock version - how to deal with it ?
it means datbase is not compatible with map
i installed andrew brown extended map - this big 40+MB file
and put Iron storm into witp
doesn't work unfortunatelly

This is going to be a great AAR to follow. With the increase in forces there should be more CV vs CV battles and, I hope, more large surface forcing running into each other.
My fear for the Japanese player is having to conduct a two front war - British and others on the Western Front while the USA is on the Eastern Front. [X(] No more having the Japs concentrate on one direction for most of '42 and overwhelming the Allies there, while the Allies build up else where. [:-]
I have two PBEM's started as the Allies. One with Nik Mod and the other standard using 1.795. I may have to consider this one later in the year when some further play testing has been completed. Three games as the Allies with each using different mods. That will be confusing!!

You aren't the only one with this fear. [X(]

Thankfully my digital generals and admirals have less reservations and they assure me the war can be won. [:D]

I have re-read your story behind "Iron Storm" and seen the changes in the OOB. However, was there an upgrade in the Japanese sub fleet and the Japanese weakness of ASW?? [&:]

Admiral Shimizu aboard the Katuri needs to know what role his submarines of the Sixth Fleet will play in this conflict...[;)]

Your hypothetical Admiral had a relative in charge of the Japanese subs attacking Pearl Harbor IRL. [:D]

Hehe, I found about the Admiral Shimizu of Sixth Fleet after I had picked the name for my hypothetical one. I hoped nobody would pick up on it.. damn you for your arcane knowledge [;)]

The name means "calm water". Apt, no?

No changes in the IJN subs or ASW for this version. However, I'm considering doing something like that before I release the 2.0 "final" version. Probably Shimizu (both of them [;)] ) would approve of a small, high-speed boat (based on Vessel No.71) as opposed to the large, clunky "fleet boat", which doesn't fit in with the new IJN strategies.

Oh! ASW has been increased by the addition of the H9A1 Eva, E16A1 Paul, and Q1W1 Lorna. But no new depth charges or anything.

Here's Nihon Kaigun's data on the Sen Taka, which we were discussing the other day:

Yup! A very fast, very nasty boat. Good for island defence and ripping into convoys. The Sen Taka's design was actually basically laid out in 1938 (!) with Experimental Vessel Number 71 (the IJN code name).

Here's a link to a thread on the Warship Projects Board discussing her, and a picture..

http://www.phpbbplanet.com/forum/viewto ... ipprojects

Image

Number 71, experimental submarine
Displacement(normal): 213/240 tons
Dimensions: 42.8m x 3.3m x 3.15m(140'5" x 10'10" x 10'4")
Machinery: single shaft, 1 diesel engine(1,200hp) and 1 electric engine(1,800hp)
Speed: 14kt surfaced, 23-25kt submerged
Range: 3,830 miles @12.5kt/33 miles @7kt
Complement: 11
Maximum operational depth: 80m(256')
Armament: 3 18" torpedo tubes forward(no mention on reloads)

No 71 was to have had a Daimler-Benz diesels but actually was fitted with a Japanese diesels. Her actual speed was 21.3 kts sub, 13.2kts surfaced with endurance 2200nm at 12kts surfaced.
She was broken up in 1940 on completion of her trials, she was not a success because of her engines. Her designation Vessel No 71 was a security cover.
Her general design enlarged bacame the ST (Sen-Taka-Sho) (Small Fast Submarines) of 1945. 146ft 8in long, 13ft 1in beam, 11ft 3in draught, 400bhp diesel and 1250hp electric motor, 10.5kts sur, 13kts sub, 2x21in TT 4 torpedoes, 22 crew. On trials they actually made 13.5kts submerged. 71 were ordered and only 5 completed but saw no action.

Hmm, the Sen Taka and the Sen Taka Sho were not the same type, the first being more than three times larger than the second.

Normally, I'm not as knowledgable on names of Japanese Admirals. However, I am re-reading At Dawn We Slept by Prange. Currently, we are at the beginning of 11/41 and his name was mentioned often about the role of the Japanese subs (midgets) and how people like Fuchida and Genda in First Air Fleet did not want any subs involved because they risked possible detection and could ruin the element of surprise.

P.S. When do you think you will update to version 2??

Hmm.. sounds like I could benefit from reading that.

Version 2? Not sure. Whenever the next version of CHS comes out. It will include a completely reworked Soviet OOB and add the Soviet Navy, as well as the IL-4T and A-20G/H aircraft. Those are pretty significant changes to the game, so I'm willing to postpone 2.0 until they've been released. [:)]

You can however download the beta version Feurer Krieg and I are playing from Rogue's website.

Hey now [;)]

In all seriousness, Feurer Krieg and I are both pretty busy in real life .. I've just recovered from mono, myself, and I know he has a lot going on, as well (not to mention The Emperor's Champions). The turn is still in FK's hands, but I'm guessing I'll have the next turn up anywhere between tonight and within a couple of days. [:)]

Yea, the first couple turns will be very slow going. I still need to put the details into some operations I have planned, plus I want to get some logistcal stuff down so that we can make sure everything looks reasonable, this is part development/part play-and-have-fun. [:)]

Work, kids, wife and the other 3 WITP games I'm involved with take some time as well. [;)]

Once things get rolling, I'm sure the turns will go by faster. Certainly this summer, when my kids go to the ex, I will have more time.
