Ok Plan prior to running the turn.

All of our battlefleet, CV and surface combat forces have been concentrated at Batavia. They had moved out about a days sail through the Sunda straits to flank his forces moving on Sumatra.

It now looks like these forces are either a feint, or he has split his CV forces, with 1/3 to 1/2 at Horn Is.

Therefore this is a grand opportunity for our forces to take on his with a good prospect of better than a 50/50 fight... here is the situation, then i'll run the turn...

Well the 13th turned out to be a fizzer... see the image below for the situation at the end of the day. We ended up out of range, probably a good thing as it isn't a feint!

The allied force is spread over two hex, the closer hex has 3 CV/CVL TF (prob UK and US CV's) following a BB tf. Behind it is around 10 TF, including some CVE, BB and CA and invasion types. This is consistent to what you would expect for a major operation.

We are unsure what the target is, Sabang or more lilely the offshore base of Sinabang... possibly both.

We have now moved in and arranged our fighters and strike aircraft to cover both options, our CV forces will sit back a bit and let the land based air do the initial fighting... depending on where he goes that is. We have moved up reserve aircraft for the turn after just in case...

He may turn tail and run (he knows at least some of our CV forces are there), which would suit us as we just can't afford to have him sitting in Sumatra blowing our oil and fuel away...

Next turn will be very interesting...

Andrew steps up to the cliff edge... but doesn't throw himeself over.

The Allied force flees NW back towards Ceylon, they leave some BB's back as a covering force but no attacks occur.

Sumatra is now safe for the moment. Our CV forces conduct a replenishment.

Sumatra is a hotch podge of hastily transported units, will have to sort out the mess.

During this time Andrew moves his CV forces back in towards Sumatra trying to entice our CV forces out to sea, or get us to launch long range strikes... neith of which occurs... but he is now only one days move off the northern tip of Sumatra so our aircarft are again put on alert.

Our TF have drained one 30k replen Tf and started on the second, however we now have full tanks.

He bombs Chiang Mai daily and is slowly building up strength.

We have now formed a solid line from Moulmein to Uttradit.

No move yet past Merauke. We have emily on night naval attack that still haven't hit anything...

CVE's (2-6) still located around Horn Island / Merauke area. This means we have a slight edge in aircarft numbers in the up comming battle, but still really only 50-50 unless we can strike from outside his range, or our land based air helps a little more than it has. Off sumatra andrew brings in the whole force kept together with the invasion force and CV's all in the same hex. Massive air battles occur. Our Jills, despite two AirHQ in their hex, not over stacker supplied etc etc make piece meal attacks 24 aircraft at a time and are slaughtered. The Oscar II though do better getting a bomb hit on Enterprise II and Lexington II.

He loses about 130 fighters, we loose about 290 aircarft, about 200 being Jill and Oscars attacking the ships. We don't loose that many fighter pilots.

He lands an impresive force ashore of about 3 inf Div and an Armoured div... we have 600 AV behind level 6 forts, and are flying and moving in another 100-200 AV... If we can hold the first attack we should win.

He doesn't bombard or strike Sabang so he doesn't damage the airfield... so we are keeping fighters there to help with the next day of combat.

Next turn should see anything capable of dropping ordanance entering the fray, Jill, Judy, Helen, Oscar, Nick, Nell... plus all of our CV air...

Off Sabang we have a poor day again due to weather. He ends up moving his CV forces back past the islands in the Andamans, but still in strike range. Weather impacts a lot, for example some strike planes we have in the Andamans only a few hex from his TF fail to fly... We do sink a few LST's though that were still unloading. Expecting him to LRCAP we sweep, instead he brings in 4E bombers which harm us a lot... bugger. Next turn we will LRCAP and move up closer...

Sorry haven't been able to keep up, quick rundown by theatre.

20-29 Feb Burma
We have just lost Chiang Mai finally. Our troops will retreat back through the jungle.

Near Moulmein he is trying to flank us through the jungle. The hes to the SE of Moulmein has a div, tk regt, arty regt and soon a bde from Moulein. The hes east of that has two divs.

Moulmein itself is at about 1400 AV behind level 7 forts. We are slowly pulling more stuff out.

Down the coast we are also thining out, no point in having too mach now he is in Saband on Sumatra in force.

Further south in Thailland he tried sweeping Chumphon, a level 8 airbase, with P-28. The "r" model Frank handeled them well, we got about 20-30 P38J for about 20 of ours, although we recovered many of the pilots.

Here is the situation in Sumatra.

Sabang fell, we managed to masacre his DB (got about 90 and 100 Fighters) for light losses to our CV aircraft and then tried to close with his CV force, but he got away due to bad weather.

He trashed Sabang using 4E, our fighters then railed out and over two attacks he managed to take Sabang. We have managed to ship units from Burma to Singapore and FT them in plus flying in units. We now have over 900 AV at Langsa which should hold against the 2300 AV he has at the moment.

We are keeping Sabang supressed, he doesn't have enough engineers. Soon we expect him to come back with lots more though

We had two of our CV's get hit by subs but they have made Singapore and will survive, but we now are at or below parity in this area with CV aircraft. We also had a BB hit with a torp doping bombardment runs on Sabang, it shold get back ok though.

We probably can't stop a landing of more force... it depends on now if he opens another base, or just piles on. Either way it will get really untidy.... we are just holding our own but that can tip quickly.

This will be interesting. Sabang is double-edged. Close to major targets, but smack in the middle of the defense as well. If you can keep it suppressed it'll be tough for him to be comfortable landing with your CVs right there and the now concentrated LBA.

Since your CVs will be the major deterrent, use of surface units protected by that LBA could really be the deciding factor for any return invasion. If can hold here that would be a major downer for the Allies.

He really needs to open up another airfield, Trinkat would be best for him (and why it is 160AV behind 5 forts) followed by other Andaman island bases or the islands off Sumatra (although they are outside of fighter trasfer range).

Starting to get good "hits" on Sabang from the air so can keep it closed. Main problem is suitable airbases, we have 1 x 8, 1 x 7, 2 x 6, 2 x 4, 2 x 3 airbases in the vicinity and they are all full!

I think he has 2-4 uncomitted divisions. we have about 2 in reserve at the moment, although not yet in a good position to intervene anywhere...

In the next 30-60 days 8 new divs arrive, we will have enough PP's between now and then to buy two out.

Situation in East DEI

In the last week Andrew has started to crawl forward here. He has 3-4 CVE class ships and a strong SCTF that he is using to cover movements. It will take another month or so but he will soon be a threat here. Only have about 120 fighters and 200 strike aircraft of various sorts in the area shuffling around. Will send forward another mixed bde soon. Just trying to bid our time...

Behind here building Balikpapan as a major airbase to host lots of fighters to cover the oilfields.

Otherwise the focus is moving back to the Philipines and getting the southern islands into a state of defence.

Trying to hold Darwin as long as possible to deny its use.
