but they were really going to cram *48* Bearcats on board?!?

This is on page 357 of Reynold's book:
Mitscher...recommended the light carriers turn in all their Avengers and Hellcats for 36 F4U ... these to be replaced "as soon as practicable" by 48 of the smaller, speedy F8F Bearcats. These all-fighter carriers would provide the combat air patrols.

Reynolds cites as his source "Mitscher to Nimitz, 00220, 31 May 1945". My attempts at locating that document have not yet yielded any result.

I understand in the RN's case they had cardboard (plywood?) layouts of the deck/hanger space, and cardboard cut-outs of the parked (wings folded) aircraft- they gathered round a table and worked out how many machines they could fit on board a carrier.

Not disputing just... amazed.

The USN did cutouts as well: http://pwencycl.kgbudge.com/images/E/s/ ... g_full.jpg

In both navies the system was also used on board (by late war, no idea when it started) to keep track of flight operations.

So, yes, we can reasonably assume that if they proposed an aircraft loadout the birds would fit on the ship while leaving enough room for flight operations... I'm just amazed the Bearcats were apparently THAT MUCH smaller.

Appreciate the discussion a bunch. I checked my copy of Fast Carriers as well. Recommend that book to anyone wanting to understand the developmental changes that occurred in the Fleet in 43-44-45. GOOD STUFF!

With Michael moving into 1945 as an Allied player, I am curious to see what he learns and recommends for additions/changes to the Mods.

Dear all,

My opponent has had to reload the game due to a computer failure. And he is proposing to load version 8. When I look in my scenario menu it says scenario 50 version 7.9 does that mean I definitely have 7.9 can I upgrade to version 8? Bearing in mind he will have a fresh install of version 8 and I already have an install of 7.9. I am fairly certain I would have upgraded to version 8 if it was out regardless. Is there anywhere else I can see what version I have if the scenario menu list is wrong.

Please advise. Thank you.

I would have your opponent update his copy and send you the files he is using. That way you will both have the same version regardless....GP

Hey Sir. Which Mod is it?

Think that GP has the right idea.

I've done nit-picky work on BTSL. Not a bunch of big changes just work brought about by finding errors within the Mod as shown through game play.

Look at the last two upgrades for the Colorado Class BBs. The very last one in 4/45 has "NO DELAY." Please adjust it.

Air Group ID 3850 - It's part of 444th BG, but this B-29 group isn't allowed to upgrade to 10 and then 15 planes. Fix it!

Some important files seem to be missing from the Treaty Scenario at the Reluctant Admiral website, including the file that puts the scenario name in the list.

Thank you for the help.

How do you mean?

The downloaded files should crate their folder and you have access. Right?

I'm missing at least the .cmt file and the AI .dat file. There are only 9 files in the .rar

It could be something to do with my computer; I've been having this kind of trouble with at least 1/2 the mods I've download and installed (my hard drive crashed recently, so I had to download them all over again). Their zips seem be missing files, perhaps my computer is blocking them? I'm using WinRAR to unzip them, just like I always have.

I will note that all these mods worked fine before the crash (including your Treaty mod), and the 3 other mods from your website still work fine as well.

I've always been pretty vague on the differences between the different mods in this family, but can you please point me at the latest version of something that buffs Japan a little without being outrageous?

RA doesn't seem to be have been updated since 2016, between the storms 060 and treaty mod are presumably more recent but I'm having a hard time understanding if they are two different scenarios for the same mod or if they are different mods and also maybe there's a between the storms heavy somewhere that's more like reluctant admiral? Or maybe not?

It appears that there's some artwork missing from my BTS-L ART folder and I'm wondering if anyone has a copy of them that I could borrow. I'm talking about the following files:
JnSide0469.bmp
JnSide0437.bmp

Will check Larry.

The Between the Storms Scenario Family:

Treaty Mod--Works ONLY changes to the Washington and London Naval Treaties. This is a balanced and quite nice near vanilla Scenario 1. One simply gets more ships that could have been built from 1921-1936. Fun Stuff without too many changes.

Reluctant Admiral--The Mod that started all this. It is the oldest and most out of date. Works from the day Yamamoto takes over as Naval Minister. No Treaty changes just changes starting in 1938 through the war. Compared to Treaty this is a much more heavily modded scenario.

Between the Storms--This Mod takes the first two and combines them. There are two main Mod concepts:
A. BTSL--The Mod cuts the Yamato-Class for a more conventional 3x3 16" Gun BB, a few fast BC, and more CAs.
B. BTSH--A bigger gunned Mod where the 3rd and 4th Yamato-Class are built as well as the Fiji-Class Light Battlecruiser (2x2 16" Guns).

Hope that helps some.

The BTS Mods are all updated, more or less, and Treaty is good. RA is dated and needs to be brought up to date.

OK. New situation for Mod working. Just Posted this over in my AAR:

The single biggest thing that has changed is that Sean in employed. Life AND a job can cause a great deal of chaos. I am all over that! He wants to take a week off to get some things done and that is fine with me. Have the new turn and will run it tonight. Will Post what happens and then send it back. When he is ready, he can send it back. I'll settle for a slower game and see how it progresses.

While that is happening, I am going to clean-up BTS and create a MASTER BTS File where all the warships options are included (the Hybrids, 16" BB instead of Yamato-Class, B-65, Niitaka-Class CA, and the Fuji-Class CC are some examples. Want to get them ALL into one file. When I have that accomplished, I shall send it to Michael where he will import all of Big B's China work. Michael has 11 days off starting near Turkey Day and thinks he can get it all finished without issue. Once the Master File comes back to me then all I have to do to create BTSL, BTS, and BTSH is to click which classes are options for that Mod. Sounds simply enough to me and brings total consistency to the Between the Storms variants. How does that sound.

Figure this will take about a month.

It is important for that time because MY NEW OPPONENT needs that much time for one of his two matches to conclude!

That is correct BABY. We gonna start a new game...

Time to get back into Mod work in a very serious manner. Those of you working and playing in the Mods, please send me your requests, issues, and/or thoughts...

A suggestion. Noted the redesigned Shinano CV awhile back in World in Flames (they gave it a sizable airgroup commensurate with its overall tonnage, ~100 planes, airgroup size in WiF of 6, vs. 4 for the Shokaku's by way of comparison). Just would be cool to have that as an option...

Interesting idea. In Treaty, Shinano comes in as designed. All the other Mods (if Shinano is built) she comes in as a BB.

I'm playing BTS-L and I've come across an aircraft model that seems to have it's artwork missing from the download.
It seems to be a Liz heavy bomber.
