Previously I hit Balikpapan for about 50+ damage, but it's back to 274 (27) now. Samarinda had about 60 (40) damage originally. I'll have to look around and see what it is now, and how much is left to repair at Miri. Last I checked it was about 35 damaged I think.

Magwe was also hit and was about 155 (145).

Boela was nailed right after he took it, and is at 7 (19) or so.

The Myoko is moving! She is spotted near Singkawang in the night by L-14, a Soviet sub based at Manila. I've increased patrols between Borneo and SE Asia. I bet she went to one of these Borneo ports and is hiding there under CAP.

Boise and a large cruiser force hit Kuantan and plaster the troops there, and another follow-up most likely closes the fields. Mersing also takes a pasting. Troops continue to unload without incident at Batu Palat. I am considering moving on the port bases of Mersing and Kuantan, which, if rail is blocked, are the IJA's only supply options fro the massive army in and around Singers. I know he's moved some out but I'll bombard to find out how much. At one point I think there were six divisions here. The 4th is dispersed and destroyed after trying to hold Palembang and Djambi. The 55th has taken significant damage. I know another division is in Johore Baru and probably one in Kluong. A regiment of the 55th is in Mersing.

The Soviets continue the pounding of Harbin manpower. Fires seem to be taking out some resources but nothing else so far. I'll keep going at night and leave some MiG sweeps on but stop daylight bombing there.

The KB is spotted at Chumpon. I'll make sure to add LR CAP to troop unloads and get other shipping protected or back to Singers or Palembang. Subs are on it's path of return if it does come down toward lower Malaya or Borneo.

Another good set of bombardments gave some decent results and even more useful information. Cruisers hit Johore Baru, confirming the 5th Divisions presence there still, and hits to Mersing show two pieces of the 4th there, although most of this ID went to Sumatra and is left adrift in the jungles.

A later bombardment at Singers shows only three divisions left there. Of those the 2nd did not cross in Feb with the others. The 5th is now at Johore Baru, and both the 55th and 4th have been split and moved around. He also has the 38th up near Taiping. With the two IDs at Lashio, I can account for nine of the IJA free divisions. Aren't there twelve total at the start? With seven of them on Malaya, this is obviously his priority now. I like that since I now can bring a lot to bear here, and I have more and more troops arriving every day.

The 4Es hit Alor Start hard, but can't do more than damage a number of the bombers on the field. Watching I saw lots of damage reports, but none destroyed it seems. Lower Malay bases are also hit and only a few are operational now.

The Soviets hit Harbin again, and keep fires going. Now they look to be having some affect on resources, but no damage to factories yet reported. I'll stop and move to night bombing but keep the MiGs sweeping tomorrow.

Which scenario is this taken from?

I have the 6th ID in China according to SIGINT, but I haven't yet opened the Japanese side to check it out in my Scen 1 game. I'll do that in a bit.

Regardless, it's good to know about the brigades and all of the tank regiments. I now at some point soon some form into the tank divisions too, which I need to be ready to handle, especially if I'm playing a predominantly land based war in two theatres.

Been looking through SIGINT. Can't find the 30th yet anywhere. That seems to be broken into components to start but in your list you have it only showing the 41st Rgt. What are the other pieces?

The rest of the 30th ID comes in as reinforcements in Korea/Manchuria in early 42, I think. I would have to open up a new game (stock) to see what they are and when they come in.

Cool. I'm now starting to keep track of everything. I've gotten a few good tidbits lately, and I want to start looking to see if he's moved units from China to Manchuria or if he's buying out divisions for the SRA, especially. Also, where those tank divisions are so I'll start looking at which regiments make them up. I want to give some bigger picture updates since I have a bit of time now. This is a list of air groups coming in the next month or so. A lot of stuff. Some will also be withdrawing, but most of those actually let the airframes go back to the pools, which is great. Some of these come with a lot of airframes as well, and right now we're doing okay in terms of numbers and pools. Not really deep but since I'm not pushing hard anywhere, it's fine for a defensive air role.

Most, if not all of these groups will make it to Sumatra as quickly as possible. Everything is shifting this way other than the sufficient number of groups and troops up i the Aleutians that will continue to threaten Japanese forces installed up there.

Looking even further down the road is the American bomber groups re-sizing on Aug 1st. The issue you will face in '42 is having enough airframes, especially bombers.

Exactly. I'll continue to use them sparingly. I'll update soon on the remaining oil centres, but I think I can get to ALL of them for some more churning and burning in the next month or two. As he's focused on troops moving on Malaya, fleet movements around Singers, strikes aiming for damaged Mutsu and Myoko, I'm hoping the CAP won't be too heavy at Balikpapan and Miri. I'll eventually get some night strikes heading for Magwe as well, which should eventually knock out most of that.

Happily I've been able to find uses for just about every airframe the Allies get, and I'll continue to use them all deep into 42, so don't be surprised to see Buffalos, Bleiheims, Bolos and Vincents still in action against the ever improving Japanese frames. I'll just need to pick their spots well.

[font="Times New Roman"]Fighter Pools[/font]

It's been fun to see how much I can maximise the strange assortment of Allied airframes that come early in the war. I'll try to use them all, (well, maybe not the Audax!).

The pools don't look too flush now, but I've been filling out units to replace those withdrawing in June (which will mostly let their planes go back to the pools).

Some of the training units stateside also allow airframes to the pools, although most are disbanding rather than withdrawing.

Soon the better A6M models will appear, and the dreaded Tojo very soon as well. I'd like to get more strat bombing done these next two months in anticipation, then move to a predominantly defensive roll in the air across the board. In some cases this means a total withdrawal of fighters (as in Soviet territory and even in some areas of the DEI) to allow the AA to take over, and not lose pilots and points where I'll be at a big disadvantage.

Not much good stuff here, but somehow I don't seem to be hurting for bombers when I need them. A good group of 4E still active and some new 2E to add in.

[font="Times New Roman"]Airframe Pools: the rest[/font]

For the rest of the airframes many odd planes you don't normally see on the front lines are heading there or already in use now. I'll be continuing to use some string bags of all sorts. As PBYs are in short supply Singapores, Dorniers and the ubiquitous Hudsons fill in necessary naval search. I'll continue to use the little Dutch light bombers for recon/ground support and some Wirraways for ASW. Lysanders are mostly in China as recon, where they're indespensible.

The C-47 started production which finally gives me some transport power and four groups are in the DEI, including one of the Marine transport groups.

For recon planes I've just gotten some nice LR RAF planes and they're complemented at Singers by the 2 Buffalo recons left. Hurricanes are also on the way over from India.

For the USAAF the 0-47 has always been a trainer for me but several groups are traveling to the DEI through OZ as I can use the shorter range planes in Malaya and leave the LR planes to see Borneo and Indochina. I'll eventually upgrade to P-4 Lighting recons as well once there are enough around. The only ones inn action right now are up North where their range is essential.

For the USN Avengers have just come online, and those will of course be used first for CV groups. After a few months I'll start using them in the groups bought back from Lex and Enterprise and they'll be a big plus in the DEI.

[font="Times New Roman"]Black Oil: Update[/font]

The situation in the DEI is looking difficult for Japan at the moment. The Allies are landing more and more troops and supplies on Malaya, reinforcing, building and fortifying Sumatra and Java, and sending virtually all new troops and equipment this way.

This map shows the centres of Oil production held by Japan and the amount of damage at each one. Balikpapan has been repaired somewhat from it's initial damage, but is still within range of 2E and 4E bombing strikes, and has two active bases with supply and air support in range from which to launch sweeps and escort mission. I'll be visiting it and Samarinda again soon. [:)]

Tarakan is not pictured below as it's fully operational with 90 oil producing. It's harder to hit at this distance, so may have to wait a while.

Beola was captured and hit immediately several months ago. I'll finish off the work there soon, before losing Ambon hopefully.

Miri is still not completely repaired, and the Allies haven't touched it yet. I'll leave that for last since it'd be nice to let Lowpe use a bunch of supply there to repair it all before trashing it. [;)] Several 4E bases are in range, and options for sweep and escort bases are in the works, with SW Borneo up for grabs and NE Borneo not out of the question with some sneaky manoeuvres. Night bombing will certainly be viable and have a slow long term impact if I can't manage to get fighters in range to help the 4Es.

Magwe was hit hard just after capture by the Japanese, and I've let it sit for a while as I manoeuvre 4Es to other work in the DEI supporting the landings on Malaya mostly. I'll begin using 2Es here at night to hopefully peck away at the oil, and I do have Lashio in range for sweeps and escort if I find it under defended.

Altogether, I'd like to reduce Japan's oil production in the SRA to less than 200 by the end of 42. I'm already working on plans for hitting the oil in Manchuria and I've taken out the 30 on Sakhalin, so the remainder in the Home Islands will only provide a trickle of what is needed. I can't see how he'll get any of this back other than repairing the damage, and that becomes counter-productive very soon.

On the 9th some Soviet bombers are still getting some hits on Harbin. Others are faring poorly though, as visibility is low due to very low % moonlight. I'll keep it going to see if anything can hit as the light improves.

In the day I forgot to turn off the biplanes and wanted only the MiGs to sweep. Unfortunately Lowpe added extensive CAP, and although they had the altitude advantage, they were crushed mercilessly by the zeros and Oscars.

A few more Soviet groups out to pasture! [:(]

Still no interdiction of the movement of troops to Malaya, and a lot more land at Batu Palat. The fields are active now so two groups of P-40E are flying CAP and hoping for the best. [:)]

A few more night hits for the Soviets. It now looks like he's noticed my move from the Hailar road, as something is shown pointing out of Tsitsahar. An evacuation? I've sent a tank division to move across country in the clear around Tsitsihar toward the Harbin area. See what that does for his confidence in the defences. He has a lot forward i the dot base 3-4 hexes South of Sunwu. About 60k if recon is correct. My defences are in place at Sunwu and Hailar, so that will not be able to threaten my rear, and if he goes forward I'll turn and encircle. So he's risking that 60k right now by keeping them there, as well. The tanks will cut the rail in a few days.

In the DEI it's all about logistics. Getting some fuel into Singers, continuing the supply movement, landing more troops at Batu Palat and working on airfield construction and fort building. The KB and company come to an area near Kuantan and about 15 subs will be vectored in that direction.

Are they here to interdict the bombardment of Kuantan and Mersing? Or is this a resupply or evacuation mission?

Like seeing all of those nice big CVs and BBs roaming around my subs hunting areas, and I won't do anything with the Naval assets at Singers other than bombard Johore Baru and Singers. Nice that he can do nothing about the Johore bombardments. The only access is through Singers. I've got three cruiser TFs lined up for nightly visits. Supply should be a problem soon and the disablements are only piling up for the 5th Division and the 25th Army HQ there.

Everyone is still dancing around in the South China Sea (or whatever this part of the sea this is called down here). Subs are finding the IJN big guns, but can't get past the escort screens so far. At least I get a good look at what is in this TF. I like the mix of BB/CA/CL. That imbalance gives my guys a slight advantage if they're more closely matched by speed and gun type.

Bombardments hit Johore again, not too hard, but the daily grind has to be taking a toll. The IJN stays around Kuantan, and I see subs all over at Mersing. Some Flower class KV are cruising through to see what they can find and get hits on two subs.

Late in the turn the Stingray finds what I think is the KB, with BB Kongo shown, but again, no luck.

I haven't mentioned the status in the PI much. Not much has happened there in months, but now the IJAAF is sending milk runs daily of Sallys to Manila and Sonias to Clark Field. They aren't doing much damage, but of course, AA takes it's toll on supplies. There are almost 40k supplies on Luzon still, and no fort building is happening right now to eat into it. Mindanao troops are holing up at Malaybalay and still have about 700 supply left. They've seen some sporadic bombing lately as well.

I'm still hoping to relieve the PI at some point. He doesn't have enough available troops to take either base yet, and the supply there should give me 2+ more months to get something done to push the Japanese to the limit on Malaya and around Borneo. There is some supply generation on Cebu and with 1800 there it could be a good stop for planes supporting supply hauls into Manila. I am converting all three USN subs that can to SST which could also help around here.

A lot is moving now from the US West Coast. Hopefully it'll get here in time to make an impact.
