Where are you getting all the fuel from? Are you sucking it from all of the Chinese coastal bases?

That was post nr 1000 Mike [8D]

The fuel comes from the Home Islands! My tanker fleet is returning fuel and oil cargo's from the numerous and
resourceful bases in the Greater Southeast Asian Co-Prospherity Sphere [:D]

Since my convoys have not been put under attack and I've rested my fleet, it has become possible to build up
a reserve.

Just some humble thoughts..

That PM plan look a bit too risky to me. I think you should continue to focus on destroying enemy material, especially LCUs. Lack of men will probably hinder the enemy more than the reoccupation of a few bases. If you believe you can chase the enemy out of PM and into the jungle, do that, but it sounds like you'll make an attempt to hold the place after the offensive is finished.

You may be right Fornadan! It is a very risky adventure - but it is as I said still an interesting option.
My dilemma is that I don't really want to pitch my highly experienced KB pilots against LBA!

PM is just like Lunga one of the key bases in the south Pacific. Capture them and you unhinge the enemy's
defense in the area.

A more limited offensive is probably a wiser option - especially if I can engage and destroy a few enemy carriers.

Ken is back and the war continues!

My entire decoy force has arrived in Kendari and operations will start in a few days.
So we should have a small show in 7-8 days and a much larger one in 2-3 weeks.

Upgraded another Nate Daitai in Japan today, only 2 more to go! Kinda annoying that I
will receive another 3 groups with this obsolete ac in 1943! *disgusted*

Hey, PzB, I have a question. You posted score screen of begin 1943 and even with India crushed, 5 US Div destroyed and so on, you have not achieved the 4 to 1 ratio if I'm not confused.

In another sense, you achieved twice automatic victory, two Allied commanders have allready resigned.

But my point is that I don't remember seing a PBEM finish by automatic victory for Japan. Lot of them achieve ratio of 4 to 1 in summer 42 (I even saw 6 to 1) in one but then it is harder to continue to score four more times points than the Allied. The chance of japanese players is that Allied players often resign once the 4 to 1 ratio is reached.

Anyway, I hadn't followed your AAR since June (no more Internet connection and then lack of time) and I'm pleased to see it continue. You still are in a position to attack in 1943 and that's a good thing for the game interest.

You're right, the 4-1 auto victory has been avoided by the smallest of margin by the Allied commanders.
I got something like 48500 points while my opponent got 12500. One day the Allied score was reduced by 500 point and stopped
36 points or so short of a 4-1.

It doesn't matter much for me, just as well that the Allies got something to play for in their darkest hour!-)

Most of the games that have ended with autovictory usually includes the surrender of large Chinese troops formations.
I've not been too active in China, and even Allied losses in Java and India can't make up for the loss of China.
The loss of the Hiryu and Soryu was what saved the Allies - those are the only major capital ships that have been lost.

But as you say, Japan is still capable of undertaking offensive operations and I've been preparing for just this for a few months now.
In a few months I will most likely go back onto the defensive and only counter attack the Allies. I'm going to receive another 5 carriers in 1943,
so I will try to use the to the best of my abilities [:)]

Had visitors the last week so here is a 4 day update. Should be able to post more regularily from now on.

Operation Decoy has been launched but the invasion fleet that is sailing south into the channel between NG and Oz has still not
been sighted.

At Truk the 14 cv/cvl/cve's have disbarked their load of cargo ac. All of the escort carriers have been equipped with Zeros and
the fleet carriers have all received an additional 9 Zeros in order to boost their ac strength. I think I'm going to need a strong CAP.
A large TF from Singapore will arrive at Truk in 2 days and the operation against Nauru will commence in 3-4 days.

Most of the trained naval bombers and fighters from China have also reached Truk. There have been some operational losses as
I couldn't wait for clear weather during all of the transfers. 150 army bombers have also reached New Guinea, so most of the pieces for
the coming battles are now in place.

The light cruiser Oyodo has also arrived at Tokyo and will steam at full speed towards Truk. It got an endurance of 11000 and should be a
useful destroyer leader or carrier escort.

An enemy convoy was sighted at Nauru and 14 destroyers were dispatched from Kwajalein in order to intercept it. We don't want Ken to beceom
too lax... The ships were divided into 2 TF's under the overall command of Tanaka. 2 ships hit mines and one severly damaged. The attack was
nevertheless a success! All the enemy PT boats were destroyed and 2 convoys attacked. Only 1 enemy destroyer defended the ships and it was
quickly sunk - but it still managed to torpedo the Takanami. Dive bombers later finished of the ship. Seferal cargo and transport ships with troops
were sunk before Tanaka withdrew. 2 of the destroyers are in a bad shape after hitting mines but I think they should make it back.

Such raids are rather expensive, but it's important to force Ken to provide a heavy escort for his convoys and disrupt his dispositions.

Things are still a bit slow..the convoy heading towards Thursday Isl is barely moving and weather is really bad.
Tomorrow my large battleship fleet from Singapore will arrive at Truk together with 2 base forces and an army HQ.
As soon as these are unloaded I will put the invasion fleet together.

Ken's sigint has noticed my invasion plans and he thinks I may invade:

"Lets see what I can guess. Attack on Hawaii, attack on Mile, attack on Baker, attack on Naru, attack on Lunga, attack on Munda,

Today was a quiet day...seemingly!-)
This report is completely OFF LIMIT for all Allied personell!

Operation 'D' (see situation map) has been spotted by the Allies and an abortive
B-17 strike was launched at it from Darwin today. The number of fighters over PM has also
increased and there are enemy capital ships in the harbour! In 3 days my ships will start unloading.
I've dispatched a SNLF unit and 2 base forces for this job. I may loose them, but I'm willing to take a few risks.

I'm uncertain about what opposition that will meet us, it is possible that Ken sorties his fleet and
that's why I can't take any chances. It's entirely a different thing to invade the yankees in 43 than in early 42...
So I'm going to overwhelm the defenders and minimize our losses. Well..that's the plan anyway [;)]

Large numbers of Bettys will be available at Kwajalein and will be released if an enemy fleet is spotted.

The result of this operation will be analyzed and before phase 2 of Op Backlash. The hope is that my heavy bombardment
groups will suppress the defenders and make the landings less costly.

Btw..does anyone know whether Nauru is an atoll? I asume that it is!

Yes, Nauru is an atoll.

To see what each hex is, you can use the button '2' on the numeric side of the keyboard, not above the letters. It will show something like 'ca' on Nauru that means c = coastal (can be invaded and bombed by sea) and a = atoll. This is very useful. In my test game in SIberia vs Moses, I decide to defend a city that seemed to me to be a wood hex (more than half of the hex was green) and not defend another one that I judged open terrain. In fact the first is open and the latter is mountains, so I did definetly the bad choice.

Thursday Island got 14 P38's as CAP today - good thing I didn't launch my paras! Recon also indicates 3800 troops there, too much for 2 para regiments.
But I will invade the smaller base just north of Thursday.

The Combined Fleet has been brought into battleformations and will set sail together with the transports tonight.

Supply ac from Wewak have resupplied Lae and the place is back in business. 54 crack A6M3 Zeros (avg exp 75-80) have been moved in.
This is another step in Op 'D'. Most of the Allied ships in PM harbour are now reported to be gone.

Yes the key is 1. But I always hit 2, always... and then wondered what is that and remembered... I think 2 and 3 are to show the control zone and weather forecast of each hex, and those displayed are those of the whole area. Only the key 1 is really useful.

The Zero group on Hosho had 9 planes and 8 pilots. Should still fly CAP though!?

Ok, action stations...!
Operation 'D' has reached Merauke and is unloading. Little enemy opposition, but several air raids hit my now empty
fuel TF hard and I had to scuttle a ship. The Zero's aboard the Hosho has been sent to Wewak and will fly LRCAP together with Oscar II's.
The Hosho and a destroyer have been detached from the invasion force and will return to Kendari if it can. No use to sacrifice it unless I have to.
There are a lot of enemy heavy bombers on naval attack -both from Darwin and from PM!

The invasion force heading for Nauru has left Truk and the invasion will commence in a week or so. Recon planes now report 29k troops at Nauru.
It's pretty clear that we have to soften up the defences first. Strangely there was no CAP over Nauru today and naval bombers from Kwajalein hit
2 transports.
