Remember that entry/exit points vary considerably based upon the on-board base that you are coming/going to.  It isn't that easy to stake them out at all.

Really? I have no clue how those points work. I guess my grand plan won't work after all. [:D]

You should start the allied side from time to time, at least to take a look. [;)]

I actually did open the Allied side a couple of times, mainly to see aircraft replacement rates.

Sub War

The Ro-68 finally caught one of the AMs outside of Pt. Moresby and blew her to smithereens.

The Dutch sub off Truk launched a couple of torpedoes at a Fubuki class DD and hit. Fortunately, they were duds. I pulled the Fubukis back to Truk. It's not worth the risk. I'll move some PBs to Truk for that duty. They're much more expendable.

5 Fleet

Nothing new to report.

4 Fleet

The transports arrived at Wake and are picking up a naval construction battalion to send to Eniwetok.

SE Fleet

Rough day for the Imperial Pilot Corps. Between Pt. Moresby and Lae, 5 Zeros and a Lily were lost in exchange for 3 P-39Ds (and an op loss). Fortunately, only 2 IJN pilots were lost.

The independent engineer regiment landed safely at Milne Bay and began construction of an airfield.

China

Nothing new to report.

Burma

Bloodshed in the skies over Burma today as well. At a cost of 5 Oscars (3 KIA & 1 WIA) and 2 op losses, 1 P-40E (plus an op loss) went down.

Malaya

Nothing new to report.

You can, but it isn't as easy as it first appears. You have to really research where the entry points are and then make some good guesses as to where he it pointing to. Then once you find him and sting him, you need to start all over again as he will shift.

I generally find it more profitable to look at the other end; you know he has to be using a certain minimum size port to off-load and there are finite number of those in most areas.

If he's smart much of it is going to Karachi. not much room to hunt there, and every time I hit something nasty RN DDs drop DCs for hours it seems.

Don't know about dive bombers, but I've been using B4Y1 Jean torpedo bombers. Too soon to tell.

Regarding Japanese depth charges, (in DaBigBabes at least) they are as follows:

Type 95 DC: 175 feet depth, 220 effect (6 accuracy)
Type 95 Mod-2 DC: 275 feet depth, 324 effect (7 accuracy)
Type 2 DC: 375 feet depth, 357 effect (7 accuracy)

Maximum diving depth for US sub classes are as follows:

Barracuda: 220 feet
Electric Boat S-18: 200 feet
Electric Boat S-42: 200 feet
Argonaut: 330 feet
Narwhal: 330 feet
Dolphin: 270 feet
Cachalot: 260 feet
Porpoise: 260 feet
Shark: 260 feet
Perch: 260 feet
Salmon: 260 feet
Sargo: 260 feet
Seadragon: 260 feet
Tambor: 300 feet
Gar: 310 feet
Gato: 330 feet

The Balao class comes online in December 1942, and has a max depth of 410 feet, i.e. no Japanese DC can reach it. Same with the Tench class in October 1944.

As for Dutch subs:

KXI: 200 feet
KXIV: 260 feet
O 16: 260 feet
O 19: 330 feet
O 21: 330 feet
KV: 160 feet
KVIII: 160 feet

But are the sub diving depths discretely entered in the game engine?  I thought they were abstracted into the durability of the ship?

The Allies, on the other hand, have depth charge racks that can go all the way down to 600 feet...almost double the maximum depth for any Japanese sub. [X(]

Yes, durability * 10 is the maximum depth.

The deepest any Japanese sub can go is 330 feet.

The Mousetrap (both Mk 20 and Mk 22) all go down to 400 feet, and with 40 accuracy on the Mk 22 - deadly for an IJ Navy sub.

Sorry for hijacking your AAR, Mike!

Not a big deal at all. We're all learning here. I'm learning that the Japanese subs are doomed. [:(]

Sub War

Nothing new to report.

5 Fleet

Nothing new to report.

4 Fleet

Nothing new to report.

SE Fleet

Air combat over Lae and Pt. Moresby netted 6x P-39Ds for the loss of 3x Zeros and one pilot.

China

Nothing new to report.

Burma

Fighting over Taung Gyi and Meiktila netted 3x P-40Es (and an op loss) and 1x H81-A3 for the cost of 3 Oscars and 2 KIA and 1 WIA.

Philippines

Tacloban fell to the 16 Division, destroying the 93 PA Regiment. One more island to take then off to Bataan.

Malaya

Nothing new to report.

SRA

My forces in Java continue to spread out. I control most of the territory but Ted still has large garrisons in Batavia and Soerabaja. My forces are beginning to accumulate at Soerabaja. I'll attack soon.

The 2 Raiding regiment landed at Koepang. The enemy forces are too strong for the regiment to take the base, but that base is definitely not reinforced.

Other Stuff

11 DDs finished upgrades, Kamikazes and Minekazes.

Sub War

A couple of SCs caught the Pike in the shallow hex just south of Rabaul and hit her with a DC. She won't sink but she's most likely going to have to go home for a bit.

Wish it had been an S class or Dutch sub.....

5 Fleet

My kids have been home from college for a few days. My daughter was curious about how the game was going so I was talking about it and showing her the map. A couple questions later and she game me a great idea. I currently have 2x Naval Guard units heading for the Aleutians. One was going to reinforce Adak and the other was going to capture the islands to the west of Adak. She was curious about how we play the game knowing so much info about the other side and so much about each other's play style. I told her that we have to change things up to make it fresh. Then I got the idea of invading Umnak Island and Dutch Harbor. Both TFs are in range and I gave them the orders today. The invasions should happen tomorrow. We'll see what happens. Talk about seat of the pants!

4 Fleet

Nothing new to report.

SE Fleet

Three Betties escorted by 15 Zeros went after an AM south of Pt. Moresby. Five Warhawks responded and the Zeros were superb, shooting down 3 and driving off the other two. The Betties missed the AM. [8|]

China

Nothing new to report.

Burma

More aerial combat cost us 2 Oscars (1 pilot KIA) for no enemy losses.

Rangoon's airfield reached level 5. The goal is level 7.

Malaya

I am going to try a shock attack tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

SRA

Nothing new to report.

Other Stuff

Reinforcement: I-27 - Heading to the Pacific.

Six more DDs completed upgrades.

I'm hoping to receive another turn tonight. I really want to see the outcome of the Aleutians invasions and the Singapore shock attack.
