I would say that turn was long on the attrition aspect of low on the victory-conquering thingy.
I blame the AE die roll troll.

Did Sister Graciella sit on a ferret?
Look, you are already on thin ice because you are a low-born immoral smoker and then you go and insult Sister Graciela because of her size. You are probably going to Hell for that but if you say 500 Hail Marys I will talk to Father Emmanoulides and see if he can do anything.

When our electronic medical record thingy breaks down at work they send us an email (powered by the same server network) to tell us it's not working. [:D][:D]
Sort of like the postal service sending a letter.....
"We think your mail carrier may be throwing the mail in the creek. If you don't get this please call the USPS"

Tiny, lean, young (oh Hell she's cute, there I said it, you happy?) Mexican mom: <in Spanish> Aj, doctor, she no eat.
FAM: <I show her the growth curve, the baby looks just like mom, the dad's 5 4, I do the mid parental height estimate, discuss genetics, review population variation, I purposely do not mention the Mayans because she is from the Mexican upper class and it would piss her off...I am getting nowhere...finally, in desperation>
Look, Senora, when she grows up I'm sure she will be just as fat as you.
Tiny, lean, young (oh Hell she's cute, there I said it, you happy?) Mexican mom: <starts laughing hysterically>
It worked! But, never EVER try this on someone who is plump if you favor your nose being in the middle of your face.

Cagayan and environs: Massively annoying Kuma comes in from the NW, somehow manages to avoid the picket ships and subs on the likely ingress routes and catches a troop convoy before they reach Cagayan.

No! Send him to the cornfield! It's been a coon's age since you've sent someone to the cornfield(s)!

Restrained admiration for a well-played attack by the Shinto Boys is permitted. Open rooting for the Little Yellow Baaahstards is a Cornfield offense. [:'(]
That transport sunk by Kuma in fact carried troops of 11th Marine Def Bn. I would say about 1/3rd of Bn lost, 1/3rd of Bn disabled (aboard the other ship in the convoy) and 1/3rd ready to fight. 21st Marine got ashore at Cagayan safely.
It looks like 1 of the 3 regiments at Davao needs a rest. The other two can mount a regular attack today.

So I'm at the hospital yesterday writing an electronic note at a thin client station by a window (by ra way, their system is so vastly superior to the POS we use in the office it's like QE II vs Pinta).
It's raining outside and I can see down to a smoking area outside the building. There is a little table with a sun shade but it's not doing it because the problem is not the sun. There are patients (all women) down their in their hospital gowns shivering in soggy blankets trying to take a couple of drags on their cigaretters. Most of them are holding their cigarettes with their IV board hands so they can hold the blanket with the other. It is REALLY pitiful.
It looks like a friggin' gulag. The boys at Club Gitmo are treated better. We have definitely gone off the deep end on persecution of smokers.
Just catching up on the AAR, saw this and can add another story:
So a guy I know is trying to give up smoking, and has started using the 'electronic cigarettes' - all the familiarity of smoking, including fake smoke, but none of the nasty stuff. He is really trying to quit but guess what, the Health & Safety crowd and Whitehall Mandarins have a policy for these -
he is only allowed to use them standing outside in the designated smoking shelter area - with all the real smokers [X(]
HM Government logic and bureacracy at it's best [8|]

"Whitehall Mandarins" [:D]
I think it is fair to say that the effect of tertiary cigarette smoke is a bit overstated. Hard to believe it is any worse than bowel gas and patients are actually goaded into releasing that evil vapor by nurses. It's even on the patient chart. For C-section patients first flatus is a blessed event that rivals the excitement attached to the baby.
It would be a hoot to set up a sign near the cafeteria that read "Vegan gas-passing area" [:)] with a big fume hood overhead.

Why are you still paying retail on penance? I thought you guys wiped it all out in one day on Yom Kippur or something like that?

This reminds me of another scene from Love and Death...(recalled)
<chaotic Napoleonic-era battle scene in Russia...buddy is dying from wound>
Buddy: Could you give this ring to my beloved fiance? <pulls out ring, gives to Woody>
Woody: Nice ring. Do you mind if I ask how much you paid?
Buddy: 2000 Rubles.
Woody: 2000? I could have got you this for 1250.
Buddy: 1250? Not THIS very same ring..... <they begin arguing> [:D][:D]
