The chief problem with Hermes is her speed, which makes her unsuitable to operate with the CV's. In this case, however, she can hang with the CVE's. The capacity is also an issue but Admiral Lord Sprior is going to want a good CAP when he gets near Burma. I'm thinking leave most of the bombers behind and pack the things with carrier capable fighters, Sea Hurris, Martlets or even <gasp> Fulmars.

Long Island has an amazingly inept AA suite. We have subs with higher AA ratings.

Just thought of another virtue of Hermes. If there is a Jap attack the bombers might go after her instead of Victorious or one of the CVE's. [:)]

Yes Hermes can operate with the CVE's but she has very short legs which can be a logistical pain.

It seems the Pony Express rider, an arrow in his leg, had to lay low in a box canyon near Flagstaff while the Comanches were on the war path. Mercifully, he was nursed back to health by some Mormon pioneers, though they did make him strap his horse to the top of the wagon. The turn arrived last night.

After reviewing the game file, this further intelligence is gained:

--Even after the heavy losses of IJN aircraft over San Jose, the IJN carrier force, now west of Manila, has 50 fighters and 140 bombers. That is serious threat even if they are light on Zeroes. Oddly, there were NO Vals in yesterday's strike packages.

--It turns out Juneau WAS at San Jose the whole time (at least after Haruna left) but the IJN bombers did failed to sport her and instead went after the PT boats. [:)]

--Runway at San Jose pretty well banged up. The bullodozers of 36th Sea Bees got ashore. Time to pick up all the smushed mangos from the Haruna bombardment and start over.

--Baybay, on Leyte, is only 15% damaged even the we can see the place burning from Cagayan

--187th IR mostly embarked at Saumlaki

--A couple of Bn or armor and a Marine Regt on their way from Darwin.

--Other forces embarking at Merauke and Derby and Ternate and Butuan and Cagayan. Everything wont be ready at the same time but the armor coming from Darwin will be the core of the landing force. They could perahps reach Lucena in about 5-6 days (game days not Earth days).

--Wasp and 5 CVE's halway between Darwin and Sorong. I think we should have them cover the movement of the amphibous groups from Saumalaki and Darwin so we don't get pesky Bettys in among the sheep.

--Cagayan is one or two days away from level 5 and another Air HQ is landing there today.
