Turn 221. September 6 1945.

The retreat continues in Poland, with maximum use being made of rivers and fortifications. Losses are kept to 29.000 men this turn, while Soviet losses are twice that. In Hungary, the front has more or less collapsed, but that is far from Berlin and lots of mountains in between, so what happens there is largely irrelevant. The map is after German moves. Note that I take every opportunity to convert hexes back in the no-mans-land, as every extra MP spent by the Soviets might mean one less deliberate attack.

I think this is going to be close. Only 8 turns left, but my army is falling apart. This will be a real nail-biter.

I should also mention that my opponent reports that his command structure has been hard hit by the 1.05.59 patch. That might have effected his combat efficiency this turn.

I can imagine it would be. Of all the changes implemented in the latest beta the lower CP's for Soviet HQ's is the one that has the biggest effect on mid-late war existing GC's. At least you're both near the end (well past historical of course = a clear victory for you in my mind)!

Turn 222. Septeber 13 1945.

Stenier is in Hungary, but IISS Panzer Corps under Keppler is still strong enough to punish an unwary Soviet Tank Corps. Not that the loss ratio was worth it, but it felt good. [:D]

I don't really like this about the combat system. A successful counterattack like this with 4-1 superiority ought to inflict much heavier casualties on the Soviets IMHO.

Those units actually have a CV of 1? I hope not.

But agree, a result like that should have seen 4-1 casualty ratio instead of a 1-1. But it has been said before by others that is the casualties you will see come 1943. It hurts the German almost as bad as the Russian so counter attacks are self defeating.

The numbers seem to change almost randomly during combat resolution.

It's a moral win, dammit. We all know Germany got occupied by the Western Allies a while back.

I also want to take the opportunity to thank my valiant opponent Gids! A superb opponent, always sending back turns quickly, extremely dependable and never gives up!
