Southeast Asia LOC:

I want to spend some time discussing the LOC's of Southeast Asia. This is my sophomoric understanding of how at least to plan for operations in Southeast Asia. It is this understanding I am planning the next phases of operations.

I have taken the map above and hit the 'y' key to show railroads. The bright white rail lines are "unlimited" [in quotes meaning whatever the game moves in terms of supply will move without further constraint]. Then starting with the dull white rail lines supply is constrained. Both in maxium supply moved per pulse and how many pulses occur within a week. It is my understanding that trails move supply the least .. maybe one pulse per week [&:] and minor roads seem to be about 3, major roads seem to pulse supply every day [&:]

That said, a look at the map shows what crsutton is pointing out. Bangkok is at the center of two major rail LOC's. What is very very interesting to me is that dull rail extending to Ayruthia. This is limited by air/port buildup and will limit everything extending from it ..

I have my own problem. A dull line extending from Rangoon to Pegu. This is limiting supply and stockpiling from every point extending from this point. The only solution is to play into the IJ's hand. Move shipping into Moulmein and flood Moulmein with supply that will move north on the bright rail to Pegu and along with the roads east. A "la grande battle" is about to unfold. Subamrines will start camping here soon but I suspect the KB will follow ..

The good news is that the IJAAF has just lost 2 airgroups to a slaughter and might not be tempted to bring in elite pilots and waste the KB's limited power here but might wait to expend this wad in the central pacific .. I can always hope ..

I have asked Damian about a tutorial for supply movement in the Burma/India area, but he never got back to me. Maybe we need to enlist Mr Alfred in this area. I have similar limited knowledge on supply movement over trails, roads, and RR.

My understanding is that Command HQ attempt to pull in 25k in extra supply to their base and that the more a base is built up, the greater the supply pull per phase. Many Allied players build up Tennant Creek and then keep going until they get to Darwin.

Would it be wise to put a Command HQ at Moulmein and/or then over at Rahaeng or Pisanuloke?? How many engineers do you have over at Rahaeng and Pisanuloke to expand those bases to max?? Chaing Mai may be an option, but the potential AF size is smaller.

Excellent Feedback NY59Giants. I did do the exact thing .. build up Tennent Creek and move the I AUS Corps reinforced right down to Darwin cutting the 15th IJA Dviision in half eventually eliminating it.

I am thinking some of the old witp code and 900 supply movement point restriction is slowing the pull from India as this is not moving anymore toward Mandalay event though I have set these spots to draw supply. IN the Tennent Creek instance Alice Springs is still within range of pulling supply. Right now my Army is way away from Imphal for example and so supply is not moving to Madalay like it was when the army was in the Irrawaddy Valley. Despite HQ's at Mandalay for example and a request for 30K+ supplies.

As far as main HQ's are concerned. IV Corps is at Rangoon and I do have the XXXIII Corps at Raheang, III Corps at Uttaradlt and some supply was moving from Rangoon before the rains began this turn. I do have one engineer unit right now at Raheang & Uttaradlt and none yet @ Pisanuloke. Four engineers are at Moulmein working very hard to expand the port there. I want to build up the bases on jungle hexes first to provide some cover from IJ bombing and then proceed to take my lumps at Pisanuloke.

Under the cover of 200 fighters DD.DE,AM's I am moving supplies ifrom "Chitty Bang Bang" into Moulmein & Rangoon. There is a picket line of IJN submarines I encouter almost every turn as more xAK's move toward Chitty Bang Bang from Colombo. I am thinking if I can get 100K or so supplies into Moulmein it will eventually push eastward. I also need to put 200K supplies at Rangoon simply to support IV Corps there and keep X2 Supplies.

Despite my supply problems the Psychological effect of a blitzkrieg through Burma has been devastating. Now the whole Northern half of Thailand and all of Laos belongs to Allies . Because the IJ were so convinced that such an offense wojld be impossible not enough forces were deployed at strategic locations that could defend Burma. Then It was "Katy Bar the door!" once the Allies breached the Irrawaddy Valley. Now the IJ has a broad front of undefendable clear terrain in the heart of Thailand. It is a matter of pushing supplies although to continue these operations. Hopefully I can get supplies through before the I AUS Corps arrive.

The IJN's main concern is B29's attacking Japan from Southern China. This is not my intention at all right now. The real crux of this offense has yet to dawn on the IJ. [;)] As mentioned in "Meaningful Kangaroo" a few pages back. Capture Indochina and fuel/oil cannot move to the home islands from the DEI through the South China sea. Take the eastern parts of the Solomons and advance to Davao and the other routes are cutoff. I think the IJ has less than 180 days of HI saved at this point because the economy crashed twice. Such a move would bring down the economy faster than bombing. [8D]

On an operational level the IJ has lost over 150 aircraft in 3 distict battles over one week. The LRCAP defense of Tavoy using the RAF, A sweep of Ayrthia using the USAAF, and a sweep of Bangkok defense of Tavoy in a combined effort. The IJAAF morale in this theater is displying some interesting behaviors with units brekaing off the attack leaving their friends behind. I also think that fatigue is shifting the battle results in my favor. So simply deploying superior aircraft with inferior crews in experince, A2A, fatgue, and morale ends up leading to slaughter. But the IJ keep producing more .. for now at least ..

How many of the USN Naval Construction Rgt do you have in SE Asia?? I would have three or four and add in another 2 SeaBee units at the bases I mentioned. That would give you about 300 engineers per base and speed up base expansions (1 Nav Constr Rgt and 2 SB per base).

I have 10 seabees in theater .. but for example 2 are working on Karachi building that port up for the influx of units soon to arrive ...2 are working on Toungoo building that base to level 9. 4 are working on the port at Moulmein .. the IJ were most unkind not building this port up for me [:D] I have some Brit constrcution units working on the port at Rangoon. But more units are moving into theater as we chat ..

The key will be building up Moulmein right now .. it needs to be always at double supply and moving as much supply as feasible to Rangoon as it 10,000 short of the X2 needed ..

Meanwhile the air war continues over the monsoon here ..

Not to nitt pick, but have you moved the Eastern Fleet HQ from Colombo to Rangoon?? It has 300 Naval Support (speed up supply unloading) and 300 Support. Its range is 4 so it will help with unloading at Moulmein.

No nit pickin' . this is an excellent idea!! Eastern Fleet is still at Colombo! I will move it to Rangoon! Not only will it help Rangoon & Moulmein but Pegu as well which can be a level 3 port .. I think all these bases have to be x2 supply demand for any supplies to move elsewhere .. at least that is what the patterns of supply movement are suggesting ..somoving Eastern Fleet has some real implecations .. great idea! [&o]

The map below shows just how many units are involved in Southeast Asia and the monsoon season '43 is just starting. My main goal is still to seige Bangkok while wating for October '43 and the arrival in theater of I AUS Corps.

There are 5 axis to the front. IV Corps HQ Rangoon is repsonsible from Tavoy to Bangkok. III Corps is to hold the center. XXXIII Corps is to flank and cut off supply from Indochina to Bangkok. The Chindits have taken Laos. The NCAC is moving on Vietnam. It should be of note that this will trigger 4 militia units but more it will trigger a IJ repsonse. They will see this front collapse and react .. hopefully into our plan [;)]

This is all depdendent on getting supplies into Rangoon, Pegu, and Moulmein. A look at the map and the IJ have given up Pont Blair and are consolidating at Victoria Point.

In the meantime ...CENPAC and SOUTHPAC have been quiet for way too long .. [8D]

The map below provides some insight on the CENPAC theater. Of note is a small atoll I have overlooked -- Alinglaplap. The little jewel can be built up to hold 4E's! and is 16 hexes from our next juicy target Ponape. Once we have BF's on Ponape we can interdict Truk and that base will be worthless to the IJN

Because of a great die roll in a previous invasion the IJ are parking submarines at all the invasion points. I am nout sure if this is a good tactic or not but DD's /DMS will patrol first and then the main invasion force when we hit the rest of the Marshall's .. this should be heating up .. soon!

We shall see .. according to Tracker we got 16 Nicks on the ground and 16 Tojo/Tonys in the airbattle . we sent another mission in to attack Bangkok with the premise that the damage on the airfield will effect flights ...

I think what really helped me in the Gilberts was taking tarawa back very early from there I was able to station 4E's and then it was all downhill from there .. [8D]
