I think it is a great result, the question now is if he will continue or not?
by now the 1st wave, with the most valuable ships, is already gone so I really can keep this going, at most he will sink a few xAKs/ xAPs and maybe a cruiser or two, while in the other hand, I can bleed him of his best pilots.

Carriers will get closer (they are at Efate now), but I will wait another turn before moving them into fighting range

He could have a strong SCTF with those CVs and send it in to hit the transports. No pilot losses that way!

Yes but tomorrow there will be 3 cruiser TFs at Ndeni, each with 4 cruisers and 8 DDs
And if the battle is intense, he risks staying at Ndeni after sunrise, and get shot by Luganville's bombers

Moreover, he doesn't know where the carriers are; and that has to make him nervous, I would certainly be nervous. After all, he doesn't have a lot of replacements coming

By the way, I am surprised to see this :
why is there a CV at Rabaul? maybe a collision? there had been no attacks to enemy carriers in a long time

Yes I will, but not next turn, I don't want to run at full speed from Efate,

so I will get close, around Vanua Lava... then I will see how things develop, I will only fight under Allied CAP umbrella (near Ndeni, Vanikoro, Luganville)

couple of possible answers....

The Kates are a real puzzle - can't believe its poor experience, but that's a possibility. Can't really think of anything else.
With the strike at 13k alt, perhaps outside the dive bombing requirement and the Judy's were glide bombing.
Judy's at 7hexs were at extended range, hence the reduced bomb load.

As per my email exchanges with Steve, he is grumbling more about the small strikes than about the poor accuracy of his torpedo bombers.
And I know there are too many factors to try to pinpoint to one specific reason, but would the long range of the strike be one?

So anyway, there was nothing exciting happening. The KB withdrew, the amphibious TFs kept disembarking, I didn't see any message of floor or fire out of control, so this is great news. I will be very happy if APD Chew somehow survives, it was almost dead and with very heavy fires last turn.

I do know of Cuttlefish's attack in his AAR (Cuttlefish vs. Cribtop) with a storm hex and his Allied CVTF(s) were slaughtered with little damage to the IJN.

if either target or launch hex has storms. This observation might just be a coincidence of (a) bad die roll(s) or really the effects of storms on either end.

I do know of Cuttlefish's attack in his AAR (Cuttlefish vs. Cribtop) with a storm hex and his Allied CVTF(s) were slaughtered with little damage to the IJN.

I think the storm can explain the small numbers, I certainly didn't think about it. It was definitively good luck, as you can see that the strike happened on "clear" weather. A stronger strike pack might had put a lot more ships under water, including a couple good cruisers.
But something I have also noticed is that torpedoes are not a sure hit killer against cruisers, even considering the old, less AA capable ones. And here I had significant number of 5/38 guns

Fully agreed on Lunga, I simply don't have yet the capability to assault division guarded bases

But Kirakira... I think it will be an easy grab. Moreover, last turn I noticed that it is still damaged from Ndeni's invasion bombing... which happened many days ago... which means there are few if any engineers. Fort level can't be great
