I wonder if detection and SigInt info he was getting caused him to suspect a major invasion force was preparing to jump off from there and he sent KB on a spoiler mission?

I don't think so. I've had my DDs there for more than a year. Nothing's changed, except I recently shuffled my ships just a bit. I'm pretty sure this is a mission to withdraw his forward two divisions, with KB there as protection and to vent a bit of accumulated frustration.

Reading both AAR's can be weird. Sometimes (about 20% of the time) both players are playing the same game and are operating in the same areas or taking or defending the same objective. About 70% of the time the players are doing different things and kind of sort of know what the other player is doing but really just want to go about their business and not be bothered with the other player. you just seem to hope they keep doing something different than you. And then about 10% of the time, both players are absolutely sure they know what the other player is doing and they are 100% wrong. It doesn't mean they will not trip over each other, which is really fun, but usually you just want to scream. This game has been particularly entertaining in that there have been long stretches when John & Dan were almost certain what the other guy was up to and they really had no idea. You guys have played each other a long time and you should be honored and how much time the other player thinks about whats going on in your heads

Well, you're dead-on right. We do seem to be carrying on with our own plans, hoping the other will just stay out of our way. It's a crazy way to wage war.

One forumite (I think Bullwinkle) is always telling me to quit worrying about what John's doing. Really, I'm just doing due diligence, trying to figure out what he's doing so that he doesn't sneak up and bite me and so that I don't blunder into him.

But mostly, at this point, I know if I'm able to do the things I need to do, the war is going to end favorably for the Allies in the not-too-distant future. It really doesn't matter what John's doing out on the peripheries. What's happening in the heart of the game - Formosa, China, and the Home Islands - is all that matters most now. Well, militarily, anyhow. From a victory point standpoint, other theaters factor in to an extent.

But I like the way thinks are taking shape for the endgame.

Appalachian Trail backpacking trip with my youngest son, who is 20, begins early tomorrow. We'll return Wednesday night if everything goes according to plan.

I started section hiking the AT from Springer Mountain, GA, in 2007. My oldest son, who was 12, joined me. The next year, his younger brother, who was then 11, came along. Since '08, the three of us have walked every step to Damascus, Virginia. It's been a blast. Hard often. Painful occasionally. Wonderful always.

I'm going to miss the company of my oldest boy, who has work conflicts. But I'm looking forward to this father/son trip with my youngest. He's 20 now and soon will have conflicts of his own.

One of these days it'll just be me. I don't know if I'll enjoy that after all these years with such good backpacking companions.

Y'all have a good weekend and I'll see you sometime next week.

If Canoerebel is right about there being two IJA divisions still in the Aleutians, then it would be a reasonably good idea to withdraw them. At this point, Japanese troops are wasted there.

Mind you, I'm not saying there wouldn't be better uses for the KB . . .

Even if you don't try to activate the Russians, it might be fun to ask John about 'groundrules' for that situation, such as do Japanese pay PPs to cross from China into Manchuoko or from Korea into Manchuoko; do Chinese units pay PP to cross into Manchuoko; etc. Regardless of the specifics, you could get him spun up and perhaps commit some inefficiencies.

I don't know what 'groundrules' the game places on the players, but asking the questions might cause him some sleepless nights...

I miss the time spent with my boy. We did EVERYTHING together. Then he went off to college, and I developed sever Bursitis in both knees. He came home for summer, but it was never the same [:(] Best time of my life, and so little to look forward to but growing old.

That will change when he has young-uns of his own and you get to take them places, spoil them silly and drop them off with your son for all the hard parenting!

My kids are 11 and 4 and I love pretty much every minute of them. I'll miss them when they're grown so I'm trying to enjoy them now.
