oh boy... well, there´s this hr about not bombing oil / resources / HI of "friendly occupied territory" but Miller forgot about it. I´ve asked him if he´s not interested in this hr anymore and he told me it was a mistake and he offered me a redo of this turn. I didn´t want to redo it, lost some 100 oil points (600 daily oil production) and the site is now 66% damaged. Will spend 250.000 supplies to repair it. When I will be able to conquer Russia´s resource sites mostly in good shape then I can afford it...

I wasn´t amused about this attack. Would this hr not be existing then I wouldn´t have conquered this base before all of Russia would have been lost anyway...

the Allied have been lucky in more than one thing here. Firstly, it´s a joke that if you have 180 undamaged fighters set to 60% Cap and only see f*cking 26 in the air. isn´t it nice if you have 271 medium bombers and you achieve 15 runway hits? And you still lose half a dozen bombers to flak... Stupid... there are only half a dozen Allied units at the base but who cares, one Allied flak gun is worth a DOZEN Japanese flak guns... it´s just a little bit off... [8|]

Don´t attack Allied bases with Japanese bombers in Nikmod...

I would be better off just doing fighter sweeps it seems. The Chinese Warhawks took a toll on one of my Tojo sentais as they got to bounce them. Then the Oscar IIs swept the floor with the Allied fighters...

at the end of the day the Russian nearly achieve a 1:1 in aircraft lost today...

against historiker, i got my first "tripple ace" after 2 months of combat.

do the aircrafts in nikmod have durasteel armor and deflector shields?[:D]

I´ve been playing WITP via PBEM now for five years and I have yet to get used to that single subs are more a threat to six ship ASW TFs than the other way around. While it looked like Miller would defend Borzya, he now moves his units out of the base onto the rail to either block me, or to retreat from my Army. At least one and a half dozen units are further East running North as fast as they can... it really looks like as if Miller would retreat at least half of his total units North, I don´t know if this is already an attempt to run for Irkutsk... suits me well, as soon as he has retreated to Irkutsk, as soon as I can take the rest of his territory and move most of my Army out again...

The Chinese seem to be fighting everywhere... Russia, Australia... Well, this really was Miller´s turn. The strike from Cooktown (extended range) smashes our base, there was never a recon flight but that´s something you don´t need as the Allied. The most depressing fact is that we lose 10 high experienced Oscar II pilots and those two sentais are out of the war for the next 2 months... so much about "you only lose one or two pilots on the ground"... There´s a big base force with three dozen flak guns at Lae, fully supplied, not fatigued and not disrupted... does this mean anything? What a bullshit... But hey, of course the Allied bombers also don´t suffer from flying max range. Increasing their durability and making Japanese flak even worse than stock makes Allied bombers B-52 like... [&o][&o]

USS Seal was succesfully engaged and sunk by IJN ASW forces near Nagasaki...


USS Seal (SS-183), 1938-1957

USS Seal, a 1450-ton Salmon class submarine built at Groton, Connecticut, was commissioned at the end of April 1938. After spending her first year's service primarily in the Caribbean and Panama areas, she was sent to the Pacific, where she operated in Hawaiian waters and off the West Coast. Seal voyaged to the Philippines in October and November 1941 and was there when the Pacific phase of World War II erupted in December.

Seal began her first war patrol from Manila in the middle of that month, sank a small freighter and ended the cruise at Soerabaja, Java, early in February 1942. She made a second patrol during that month and the next, as the Japanese completed their conquest of the Indies, attacked three convoys and inflicted damage on one enemy ship. During April-October 1942 Seal was based at Fremantle, Australia. During this time she made three war patrols, two off Indochina and one through the central Pacific en route to Pearl Harbor, that cost the Japanese war effort two freighters. In turn, the submarine's periscopes were damaged beyond use when she collided with an enemy ship in mid-November.

Following an overhaul, in April 1943 Seal returned to combat, sinking a tanker in early May during her sixth war patrol. Her next cruise had to be cut short after she was damaged in July by a prolonged depth charging. While off northern Japan at the end of August 1943, Seal again suffered damage when a hatch failed to close properly while she was diving. Though the submarine made her own repairs and remained on patrol, she made no "kills" in two attacks. Between November 1943 and March 1944 she operated in the central Pacific during the invasions of the Gilbert and Marshall Islands, performing lifeguard and reconnaissance duties. At the end of her tenth patrol Seal entered the Mare Island Navy Yard for an overhaul that included replacement of her original, and very unreliable, H.O.R. diesel engines.

When this work was completed in the summer of 1944, Seal was sent to the northern Pacific, where she made several attacks and sank two Japanese ships. Her final combat cruise, during the fall, took her back off northern Japan, yielding another sunken Maru, her seventh. After returning to Pearl Harbor late in November 1944, Seal was assigned to training service, initially in the Hawaiian area and, after June 1945, at New London, Connecticut. Decommissioned in mid-November 1945, three months after Japan had given up the fight, she was placed in the Atlantic Reserve Fleet. In June 1947 Seal was taken out of "mothballs" and put back to work as a stationary training submarine for the Naval Reserve. This assignment, initially at Boston, Massachusetts, and later at Portsmouth, New Hampshire, lasted until she was taken out of service and stricken from the list of Naval vessels in May 1956. Seal was sold for scrapping a year later.

what the heck are you doing Paul?? Spotted two small TFs moving South from Karachi. They were pretty close to the coast and I´ve thought that it´s quite bold to mave them moving within possible range of my bombers (which there are no in India... [;)]). I was quite sure that the two TFs would move towards Perth but this turn showed that this is a mini invasion! Lol, we spotted a regiment of an Indian division being landed right into level 9 forts and a full IJA division... I wonder if Miller thinks I would not defend my positions in India... this is Miller´s Dieppe... If I would be him, I would immediately load up the regiment again and move it back to Karachi...

found something to do for KB... after the fight around Northern Australia was over we moved KB (and most of the IJN) back to Japan for repairs and upgrades, while the carrier based aircraft were sent to the Philipines to train their reinforced daitais. KB arrived back at Truk and I´ve thought it could be a good idea to interrupt the Allied training runs on Luganville. KB moved in full speed and unspotted then set most of the fighters to LRCAP our base from 4 hexes range. I was amazed to see more than 100 fighters on LRCAP over the base and they really took a toll on the attacker. Some easy kills for KB´s fighters and only three Zeros were lost (two pilots killed). This of course means nothing for the Allied training programme, as we killed only second line aircraft and it surely won´t stop Miller from doing those training runs. But it was nevertheless nice to see...

While the Allied bombers flew day after day against Luganville, today nothing came in... a pity...

then our Army attacks... lead by our tank units we see the biggest troop stack of the war attacking the helpless defender in open terrain. The enemy had no chance and we inflicted heavy losses within the defender. Miller´s biggest problem now is that those troops had to retreat to Borzya where they will be cut off in no time now... At least a dozen units is moving North on the rail just a couple of hexes East of this position. More than two dozen units are holding their positions in the bases between Vladivostok and Borzya.

While I know that the "run North strategy" is something a lot of Allied players prefer (as a couple of people pointed out in this AAR), it´s quite hard to do that if a) China is knocked out and the Japanese have total superiority in ground troops and b) if the Japanese player is aware of the possibility of the "run North strategy" and he can see the enemy moving because of intense recon efforts by at least a dozen DinahII and III chutais.

As soon as I spotted dozens of Russian units moving North, I redirected the main thrust (that was located South for the drive on Vladivostok) to my positions in the North to now cut the enemy territory in two. I can´t see what can stop me from doing this now. Vladivostok was taken without a fight and my tank Army that is backed up by one and a half dozen inf divisions won´t have a real problem to achieve it´s goals in the North now.

This forced retreat cost the Allied a hundred points for ground losses today.

I have no idea why Miller moves the TF that brought the regiment to invade Panajii to Ceylon. While I had no bombers in India a couple of turns ago, this doesn´t mean I couldn´t move them in quite quickly. Madras was clouded last turn but today the bombers launched and sunk the heavy cruiser Suffolk. I did not get a confirmation that the ship is sunk but I have never seen a CA making it after 5 torpedo hits... I see this ship as being sunk... nice one...

"KENT" Class cruiser ordered on 15th February 1924 from HM Dockyard, Portsmouth and laid down on 30th September that year. The ship was launched on 16th February 1928 and completed on 31st May 1928. She was not adopted by a civil community in UK following a successful “WARSHIP WEEK” National Savings campaign in 1941-42 but has had a long association with the County of Suffolk.
