We ran a bit and we already reached Semptember 10 1942

In the last two weeks the allies have seriously begun to apply pressure all over the map.
Let's get some order...

NOPAC: my subs confirmed the foreseen invasion of Amechtika. After more than one months of daily bombings with the B17s from Addak, on the 2nd of Sept the I-19 attacked a convoy between Ducth Harbour and Addak. We didn't score a single hit, and the brave sub took some 75 flt damage from the escort, but it was able to spot nearly 15 between APs and AKs... I've ordered all the subs i had in the are to get close, and sent 6 more from the sub base i have at Etorofu (Kuriles). The Mavis and Emilies were busy evacuating my units from there and we managed to get out the equivalent of 2 and 1/2 SNLF units... not much but better than nothing.
The americans landed on the 9th with 3 units...we're out of supplies and without firepower so i'm sure we'll capitulate on the morrow...

SOPAC: with the 1st of semptember the allied started to bomb with 80 B17s and B24s Tulagi from Lungaville. We didn't engage cause i wanted to be sure what he was up to... now, on the 9th, a big TF is spotted NW of Ndeni... BBs and CAs and some cargos... probably an invasion force? I allerted all the Netties in the area and we're ready to engage. 3 BBs, 4 CAs, 4 CLs and 15 DDs are moving to Shortland from Rabaul and 2 CVEs are moving from Truk back to Rabaul.

The KB is parked at Mariannas...too far away to arrive in time both in NOPAC and in SOPAC[:o]...plus i'm short of 2 CVs which are getting the badly needed AA upgrades...so we're stuck :-/

N-OZ: the Aussies started to bomb Port Hedland from exmouth...and a lot of ships are spotted near Perth...a CV too!!! We must get aware that this area is in real danger! More Netties and Zeros are moved to Timor and i'm seriously thinking of getting the KB back to DEI....

BURMA: he keeps his daily bombing runs against Mitikina. We also spotted the 6th Indian Division moving to Cox Bazar...he massed 40,000 men and some 500 tanks at Cox...we're reinforcing Akyab so.
AT the same time, N-E of Mitikina, not less than 7 enemy units are flanking Wazrup...
At Kalemnyo, 8 enemy units are spotted.... pressure is rising in Burma...and we feel very weak here


CHINA: We achieved a series of 3 1-1 at Chikkiang... the damned place doesn't want to give up!!!! Wonder if i'll ever breach here....[8|]


Hollandia is being built finally and we're now moving some 200 engineers to Ambon area in order to start building.

An Air HQ is being moving to Sumatra...and a division is bound for Sebang...

Almost ready to invade Cebu and get rid of it.

The new convoys system is working fine... very few attacks lately!

Man, you guys are moving along! We do on average 2-3 turns a day and you're still going faster! At this rate you'll pass us in late 44 and I can learn from your defense of the HI before I have to go through it myself! [:D]

Interested to see what happens in So Pac. Looks like a big clash on the horizon.

Some scattered infos from the last two weeks...
 
Artillery and Engineers units recently arrived at Truk. They will be moved to Tarawa and Makin, in order to fufill the stacking limits there. Forts are up to 3 and 4 in both Islands and they should become two great strongpoints.
 
Marshall islands are getting more reinforcements. Wotje, Kusiae, Ponape, Kwejalein...all these atolls will soon get enough forces to sustain any assault. With Marcus and Wake already heavily garrisoned, my right flank should be more or less secured for the time being.
 
Some artillery units are also reaching Rabaul in these days, along with 2 para regiments. All these units, along with the two divisions and one guard regiment, will be ready to counterattack any allied landing in SOPAC/SWPAC.
 
In few days (2 or 3) 80k supplies will be landed at Rangoon. More 50k supplies are moving towards Singapore.
 
The "new convoy system" implies a slower general movement of fuel/res/oil... in pratice, i'm forming groups of convoys that load at different stages at the major ports, then, once they are all loaded, they re-group following a couple of ASW TFs. Several AVs and one CVEs with crack ASW trained Kates will be part of this system. So far, the enemy subs managed to sink only 1 xAK in the last 15 days [:'(]
 
By October i should get both the A6M3a and the A6M5. The A6M2 factories will be changed (yes, i know they cannot "upgrade") so that to have 60 A6M3a and 70 A6M5s in production by the end of the year.

Defenetly something is going on in NW Oz... one of my subs was attacked by what seemed to be a big cruiser TF! More air bombings against Port Hedland



In NOPAC a british cruiser TF bombed Amchitka, avoiding (and damaging) one of my RO-boats... while another sub of mine was pretty damaged by his ASW assets near Addak.

The Yankees attacked at Amichtika... the base is without supplies and most of the combat power has been already evacuated...but the americans only managed a 1-2 [:D][:D][:D]. The heores of Amichtika really make me proud!

But the real action took place in SOPAC. I fear that TF NE of Ndeni was just a decoy TF...a CAP trap... it didn't move and i bet he had several fighters CAPPING it... thanks God my Betties didn't launch!
However, at tulagi, his 4Es came, once again, unescorted... but today they found opposition! 2 Zero Daitais and one Nick sentai were there to fight! The zeros did go really bad, even with super crack pilots, while the KI-45s did incredibly well, shooting down more than 13 enemy 4Es [:D]
We lost 1 Nick and 14 zeros (8 pilots KIA)...but was a good price for taking fown 13 enemy monsters

One more Nick Sentai is being transfered to the Solomons....[8D]

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR Sep 07, 42

As the first attack on Amichtika was repulsed, Brad sent in another division. Really glad he has to deploy two full divisions with some powerfull combat eng units to get rid of a tiny garrison with no supplies at all and no heavy arty... this is teaching me a lot!
Our subs are being very ineffective this time... 10 subs didn't manage to score a single hit on his upcoming ships...i'll retire them now. No reason the remain there with high DLs and got sunk for no gain...


In China we had a good day. After a couple of 1-1 east of Kienko, i've ordered a shock attack: 5-1 and the mountain passage is finally ours! Now we're advancing once again west! GO WEST! The northern enemy army must really be in a bad shape after all these retreats.... we also conquered Humrachi almost intact! more oil to be flown to Shangai [;)]

Tomorrow at chikkiang another deliberate attack is ordered. The 39th Division has been brought in, rotating the 63rd which was in bad shape. Bought out another division that will be available very soon for the Adamans

Brad is sending some scouting ships between Cylon and Port Blair. Moving some Nells in...but, above all, i'm rushing to get some substantial reinforcements to the Adamans: 2 Divisions at Sebang, 1 division at Nicobar and 1 mixed bde for Little Adaman and Port Blar. With 2 Air HQs present in the area (Port Blair and Sebang) an operation here would be very risky for him.

Also sending a division at Padang and Bankolen (western Sumatra)...just to be sure no "coup de main" can be made.

4 SNLF units are moving to the Marshalls as we speak.

After the beating over Tulagi, no more 4Es showed up in the last 2 days in the Solomons, while his bait-TF (CAP trap) retired south of Ndeni.

It's now time to apply more pressure in China. More engineers are bought out and sent to the DEI.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR Sep 08, 42

Finally, after more than 4 months of constant battles, the brave 11th Army (5 divisions strong, constantly rotating) managed to dislodge the enemy from the key base in central china.
Now we have a solid breakthrough behind the river and we will press on! The 11th Army is already moving westwards, chasing the enemy towards Kweiang (another key base), while the 13th Army will attack and open the right flank of the 11th.
The 12th and 14th Army will follow and will fill the gaps. 2nd Tank Division is almost ready to be assembled (still need 440 PPs in order to buy the last bde of this big unit), while the 1st Tank Div is waiting for some medium tanks to be filled in her ranks.

The pressure towards Kianko (northern China) is rising... 7 divisions are marching west...


In NOPAC, the americans attacked and managed to get only a 2-1 (using 2 full divisions!!)... Amchitka is still ours [:D]


Still no sign of the US CVs... this is not good, not at all... i wonder if he's really trying to surprise me in western Oz...[X(]

Field day in Burma skies

While the americans finally managed to conquer Amichtika and started to bomb Attu Island...
...while in China the japanese armies are marching towards the Glory fields...

...in Burma the japanese air force just had its best day of the war.

He has been bombing Mitikyna for months now. 70 bombers, heavily escorted, every day brought their cargo of death to the tiny jungle base in japs hands.
I haven't tried to contest it...for months i let him bomb... and, as foreseen, he forgot i was there too... and probably got a bit sloopy!

So today we managed to ambush the Bukas! 2 Zero, 1 Nick and 2 Tojo Sentais were put on LRCAP over Mitikyna.
We lost 1 nick, 2 zeros and 1 Tojo... for 64 enemy planes!!!!! (only 1 KIA and 1 WIA [8D]).

A great day. Really a great day.

He didn't lose many valuable a/c. Mostly Blenheims IV...but hopefully this defeat will keep him honest and force him to use more fighters on sweep role and, maybe, the loss of some experienced british crews will hurt him a bit.
They key of my defence, however, it's this: an active defence but minimizing the expenditure of assets (men, supplies, planes, fuel etc...). I wanna be able to bite him back as long as possible.

Pondering about CS conversions... what to do? November is right behind the corner and i have to plan accordingly.
 
I love the CSs ability to give extra 90 search planes (at 10 hexes!) for the KB...at the same time 4 CVLs would be very interesting for mid-late war japanese carrier capabilities.... I'm thinking about leaving the slower CS (22 knots) as a CS,while converting the other 3...what do you think?
Also 300 days is A LOT!!! means not having CSs for the decisive 1943 year... but 3 CVLs...mean more 90 planes...not bad

I really value the extra search. During the critical stages in late 42 into mid 43, when you have a superiority, these ships let your eyes be extended without over-burdening the strike groups. Also, they can really serve well in an ASW role. If you do want more CAP, you can always use Rufes/Rexes down low, flying these where they will get the TBs.

I did convert one, the Mizuho, as it's so slow it can't keep up with the KB, but gains speed in conversion. By the time the conversions would arrive the 90 planes are great to have, but they're completely outclassed by the Hellcats he'll be using.

Agree on what u say. I already have the Chitose equipped with Rufes for some extra cap.
Like the idea of coverting only the mizhuo. Think i'll go for it.
The Nisshin and Chyoda will have a dedicated ASW FP group and a dedicated search FP group.

Today, the 10th, the 13th army got another 1-2.... But the 11th army managed ro advace and got again in cntact with the enemy. We'll immediately attack. Don't wanna give hom time to breathe!

Hollandia is finally being built by 5 engineers units.

Definitely convert the Mizuho. I would probably only retain 1 CS as while the floatplanes are useful you have them flying from your CA's and in bad weather they cant take off so you cannot rely on them alone for naval search.

mmm.... the more i think of it, the more i'm puzzled. I'll go back reading some threads about it and see what does the community think.



About my R&D efforts:

recently i've been reading a lot of PaxMondo's comments about certain plane types...and i understood that i had really messed up with my long term R&D.
Invested too much in the Tojo line and converted to many R&D factories to normal factories (playing with realistic R&D ...so this is a problem).
My investment in the SAM line was too little and too late. Only have 3x30 factories researching it, while too many little factories are wasting time researching less usefull planes (the Peggy for example). I have all these small factories because i thought they would be usefull, once a certain type becomes available, in converting to normal factories so that i wouldn't be forced to change the production of the already existing factories... that is a mistake cause you end up having so many R&D factories completely useless for any serious R&D pourpose. Live and learn!

So, we're now waiting for the A6M5s to arrive along with the A6M3a (both should be available for 10/42) and then we'll convert the two existing A6M2 factories to these two models, while switching the 5 R&D factories to the SAM line (hopefully it's not too late).
Once the N1K1 becomes available, i'll research the N1K2 to some extent, but i'll end up there (i'm not interested in the K5 variant cause the service rating sucks back again at 3) and will switch some factories to the KI-84b (i was too stupid not to understand that the two CL cannons make this the best late war fighter, hands down).

More efforts will also be put on the Ha-43 engine (at the moment i only have 2x30 R&D factories researching it) as soon as the Ha-45 will become available (probably by the end of semptember 42).

Also the production of the Tojo IIa will be slowed. At the moment i have more than 350 Tojo IIa standing in the pool, taking dust... and i have too many little factories producing it. More factories will be devoted to different models (probably more Jakes....never have enough of them, and i'm already producing 100!!!!)

I'll probably add 1 more R&D factory to the Grace research also...

So far, the only balanced line has been the Oscar one... the most useless plane in my arsenal...[8|]
