One of my highest priorities - maybe the highest - is to get the B-24Js into normal range of the Home Island strategic targets. Foochow is just a tad bit too far away. Ningpo brings Kyushu and southern Honshu within range. Too, Ningpo brings my long-range fighters within range of Kyushu (and possibly as far north as Hiroshima).

My PBY Liberators bombing at normal range from Foochow (at 17, their normal range can make southern Kyushu) have been very effective. Based on that, I think the B-24Js should be effective or perhaps devastating. And those combined with the B-29s should accelerate the strategic war results dramatically.

B-29s are flying from Manila every night. That's extreme range but I'm learning and scoring a few points. The night fighters John is using haven't been very effective. To this point, I find that I'm doing better against Nagasaki, despite heavy opposition, as compared to unopposed raids over smaller bases.

Yeah. In a week, Formosa will have a level eight airfield, doubling aviation support and thus making it possible to bring in the heavies. To this point, all aviation support has been devoted to fighters needed to protect the navy left to guard Formosa in Death Star's absence.

I was disappointed. I'd give it a 5 out of 10 or 4 out of 10. Based upon reviews and other comments, I was expecting a 9 out of 10 or higher. The filming was good, the actors were good, the music was good. The storytelling seemed disjointed, uninteresting, and unable to convey the massive scale of Dunkirk and why it was so important. Instead it was a few implausible vignettes cobbled together in uninspired fashion.

What would you say o the Thin Red Line then?

I thought Thin Red Line was just horrible. Can't remember any of the details as I shut it out of my mind after being so disappointed.

Yeah, I hated it too. There seems to be a sharp divergence in how people view Thin Red Line. A respectable percentage of forumites really liked it (Obvert, for one). Probably a majority didn't like it.

Peep Show: Encouraging deliberate attack at Karenko today; Taichu airfield 91% to level 8. So the endgame is in sight for Formosa, when it will transition to full use as an offensive airfield.

China: John may be moving a large stack to the coast. I'm a bit nervous, because my army in his target hex is low on supply. I have to maintain status quo for about another week until Death Star (the sheriff) arrives and imposes order throughout this theater. In the meantime, if weather cooperates, Allied 4EB are ready to hit anything that pops up in a coastal base.

Death Star is making its way to Manila. KB South is within striking distance, if John is thinking that way. It's possible but unlikely that KB North is within striking distance.

Me too.

Part of it depends on whether you like Malick's internal dialogue fest. I do, just not in this movie. The part that broke it for me was the horrific casting.

I agree with you. Having read the book when I was in my teens, I expected something more about desperate and beleaguered men fighting an implacable enemy rather than an artsy "war is bad for nature" film. It was so slow in pacing I fell asleep watching it.

Knew it was going to be bad when The Guardian had it in their top 10 War films of all time.

Do you think he might be putting more troops on Mindanao to try take back that lone base you have there?

I don't think so. He's probably fear that I'd turn Mindanao into another Luzon or Formosa. The two units I have there are 2/3rds of a very good Aussie division. They can hold against a lot.

...but I've recently considered pulling them out (the other third is at Beaufort on Borneo). The division is 100% prepped for Shanghai. I don't foresee ever attending to Mindanao unless everything else is taken already and I'm just gobbling up the map while the Empire teeters.

I hated the Thin Red Line as well, bad acting, lack of action. I heard that the editing of Dunkirk was based on on the Beach 7 days the soldiers view, on the sea 1 day the sailors view and in the air 1 hour the pilots view and they run at the same time. That editing directing decision might be the cause of the disjointed aspect of the final product. I am looking forward to seeing it soon.

USN sub dampens enemy carrier strength just a bit, while Death Star continues to make the long journey back to Manila.

Suggest refuel the carriers.

John is coming in coastal China; he's pretty jazzed, judging by his body language. It's an important little campaign that will turn on weather, Allied air power, and the exact date of arrival of Death Star.
