In my previous post I stated it was fixed.

Retreat, turn off auto-save just incase the intermittant crashes are happening during auto-save. I know it is frustrating but I really feel we are over the worst of it and there is light at the end of the tunnel. Besides, with my luck I'll work really hard to fix everything and then DW2 will come out the next day and everyone will forget the Bacon mod.

Firstly, I'd like to preface that I'm an idiot.

Secondly, I tend to get dramatic. Apologies.

Lastly, weird things happen when you forget to put baconsettings.txt in your game folder.

I'm mid deep in a 1400 extreme (and losing) with no problems with bacon.

...and crash.

Game behavior was still strange. I couldn't fulfill any resource orders at all. I wasn't building anything but mines and the constructors were stuck waiting on resources that finally came... but never dropped anything off.

I'm going to retry with the cargo setting to normal.

Retreat..... are you using any other mods or just the Bacon mod?

This next game is holding on. I should be pretty far hopefully by tomorrow night. No strange behaviors yet. Maybe the higher base cargo setting was to blame.

...and crash.

The top Bacon method in the stack is BaconFighter.AssignCap. That method tells a fighter to target a bomber that is currently targeting the fighter's carrier. It is possible, although unlikely from a timeing perspective, that the target was destroyed between the time to bomber was selected and the time the fighter was given the assignment. I'll wrap it in try-catch block for the next version.

This is what my save screen looks like with 1.81r DW.exe. I can't post images yet. so will DM it.

Unable to set a name or anything. If I save with the default name, it writes a file to disk, but I get an unhandled exception, and the "Saving the Galaxy" spinner never goes away. I had to kill the game via task mgr. I tried to start a new game and save to get the stack trace, but decided to try ctrl+e to test commands and the game just crashed. Will try again tomorrow.

Decided to revisit for updates and am running into the no launch problem like others. I guess this problem is still being worked on?

If you are on windows 10 2004 make sure you are using this file from RogerBacon.

Make sure you run the file as an administrator.
Also check the file startup.ini in the distant worlds folder... you may need to change the last line to

playmovie 0

I'm running a monster game atm and 75 years in so far so good. I have a decent i7 16g desktop but it's a slideshow.

Rollhax: Did you enable LAA on the exe? There's programs on the web to do that.

Cargo is still wonky. Construction ships that go out to build but forgot to pick up resources so they go back. Planets never getting resources and therefore in a build stall forever. New colonies having their cargo reserved for somewhere else. Cargo ships bringing supplies but not dropping them off and the resources disappear. None of this is game breaking but it is peculiar behavior.

ctrl-w is my new friend. GJ Roger.

Save issues are usually due to anti-virus. Make sure the exe has permission to write to the save directory. Even if you gave it permission before you might need to again since each version of the exe will have a different signature. I had to do that when I switched back in the vanilla exe for testing.

Yeah, handling movement for 1999;s of ships in realtime is super demanding. Nothing we can really do about that. Back in the 90's when CPU puwer was doubling every year or two we could just wait and play it a few years later but now technology has kinda hit a wall. Turning off travel vectors will help. I never used them but I saw a youtube where someone had them on and it slowed the game down.

Your cargo problems sound interesting, although you probably have a different adjective to describe them. Remember, for critical build jobs where your construction ships are stuck you can order manual supply missions to them the same way you order manual supply missions to any other target. Of course, such micromanagement is not fun but its better than nothing. I've never had a game go as long as yours has.

It was a slideshow with Legends in 2012 and still is today.

I'm now grateful for the extra commands. I've run a few bacon games in the past but I usually ignored commands.

Tried that and it says system cannot run so I'm assuming not.

Tried these as well and still no launch after clicking ok on bacon box.

In Windows go to settings > system > about. Look for Windows Specifications. It will tell the version you are running. If it's 2004 or 20H2 then you have to run the 1.81r bacon.exe.

Could you expand on how to do this? I'm more of a Linux guy, this doesn't seem straight forward to me in Windows. File permissions for all users on my save dir (and its parent dirs) are wide open.

Thanks so it is 2004 but why will my system not run the exe? It says this app cannot run on your PC?
