Marital advice (whether you want it or not):
Never EVER interrupt (or even look askance) when women are doing a victory dance to celebrate a punitive divorce settlement. This, I now realize, is a mystical and highly symbolic exorcism (and public flaying of the skin, drawing and quartering and Bobbitism of the offending male). It is best to slink away and go watch a baseball game or something, even if you don't like baseball.
Your opinion will not be welcome. It's like bringing barbecue sauce to a papua New Guinea eating of the brain ceremony.
I had to go an look up what "spike the football" meant- expecting some obscure reference to a bodily function, piercing of tender parts or surgical technique.
Regarding a PNG brain eating ceremony- to avoid a faux pas what is the acceptable range of condiments that one should bring- or is it strictly au naturale?

What happened? [&:]
We're better than them is what happened.
C'mon mate-the most likely outcome of a stout Jap CA/Cl raiding force happening upon a laden transport TF escorted by two RN DDs is that the former rips the latter a new corn chute. 'Scuse me-a new aperture for ye olde crisps.
That two DDs gives a stout and capable Jap SCTF such as this the what for is unlikely. Something happened game wise to explain these seemingly spurious results.

I suspect the initial 1000yd range in pouring rain at night helped.

Here is what happened:
1) First contact.
Yuzuki and
Mochizuki engage
Hotspur and
Inconstant at 1000 yds. Yuzuki is hit immediately. Searchlights come on further back in the Japanese line, revelaing the size of the enemy force. Bullard issues a pre-planned radio alert for transports to flee individually to the NW.
Oite spots the transport and begins to attack. Contact is lost with Atago. Bullard orders a snap torpedo attack, smoke and turn to NW.
2)
Yuzuki now burning heavily. Then she is hit by a torpedo, whcih doesn't help very much.
3) Gunnery officer of Atago returns from crapper. He exclaims, "Hory Crap! Start shooting idiots!"
Muchizuki alters to port to avoid the sinking hulk of
Yuzuki. The rest of the IJN follows.
4) RN DD's engage
Oite and put a 5 inch round (or whatever they use) into the bridge. This causes the captain's head to evaporate and a morale decrine aboard
Oite which is now separated from her compatriots.
5) Both lines excahnge fire. Mikazuki hit and buringing. Takao hits Inconstant.
6) Bullard agains orders smoke and retirement.

Inconstant and Hotspur are at about 15-20% system damage from topside hits. The amphibious group turned around on their own. Dumra (AP) is lagging behind as a volunteer torpedo magnet. [:)]
The IJN force apparently headed back to Rangoon.
Question: Is Rangoon susceptible to bombardment by a BC/BB or is it on a river that limits vessel size (cant look at the map..at work)?

PI Pranning: Tremendous numbers of Vals downed yesterday (30 something). Maybe 7 Bettys destroyed. Clark airfield is looking a bit tired but still a threat. Ditto Manira. Altimonan has bombers again. It's like B-24 whack-a-mole.
--AK's will "sprint" from Batangas to Iba today. PT's and SBD's and even some TBF's (with bomb loadouts) to Iba. Iba is low on supply but has adequate aviation support now (level 2).
--Lingayen now has 503PIR on the ground to act as a speed bump.
--21st Marine Regt, escorted by 4 CVE's wills start the dangerous run across the South China Sea to Iba today. Additional LRCAP from Lucena.
--Wasp, annoyingly, stopped near Jolo to get a wheel alignment or something, so she will move up to Palawan today.
--Manira has 51K LYB's...in an urban hex. Uggh. Guess we wont have Manira harbor for a while.
--7th Aus Div and SWPAC HQ left Manado for Iba yesterday.
--B-24 raids on Manira and Altimonan today.
--PBY's operatin from Puerto Princessa report mutlple tanker convoys hugging the Chinese coast.

Aye. BBs cannot sail upstream here. But, may I suggest arranging the crew on deck and have them simultaneously shake their fists in defiance? The enemy may appreciate this show of fortitude.

In fact, it was
Takao. I mislabeled
Takao as
Atago on the map.

Please do not threaten Japan anymore! There is no way I'll find something else as entertaining when I come home from work. I thought the local news would work, they have the lines but no cast. You are progressing way to fast. sloowwwwwwww dowwwwwwwn.[:D]

For non-Americans (or Danes who know a lot about American football) "spinking the ball" refers to the act of throwing it forcefully to the ground. This can be done as a means to get a free "time out" when a team is out of official time-outs. This is essentially an incomplete pass, costing a down but stopping the clock so the pampered millionaires on the field can go over to the sidelines and be told what to do...even though there are only about 4-5 practical choices and everyone already knows what they are.
OR
It can be a victory display after scoring a touchdown. This is basically what SG and PG were doing. In fact, they were throwing the ball directly at the feet of the defeated opponent, which will get you a fine, even in the NFL.
As for the papua New Guinea brain eating ceremony...seeing as this is the ritual eating of the brain of your recently dead relative as a means of releasing the spirit and ensuring a happy afterlife among the living there is probably NO condiment that would be kosher. MAYBE you could get away with a spritz of lemon or a little wasabi but I doubt it.
Also, as Dr Gajdusek won the Nobel Prize for demostrating that kuru, a human prion disease that causes progressive dementia and early death is transmitted by eating the brains of your relatives, if you EVER get invited to one of these things I would strongly recommend you beg off, especially if grandpa Ongopongo started to make barking sounds or smear feces on himself before he died.

He may be dead now, but just in case, if you are ever invited over to Gajdusek's house of for a pool party, don't go...well maybe if you are hirsute it would be OK.

Probably one of my teenage patients would know what "spinking the ball" means. Or maybe Anderson Cooper.
It's not in Urban Dictionary or the Fourth Rotor.

Pretty effective raid over Altimonan after a small P-38 sweep. Raids over Clark and Manira were disorganized. There wasn't even supposed to be a raid over Clark. I blame the staff.
Nothing bad happened in the South China Sea.
