We visited the house today as we have Mother's Day plans for tomorrow. Most of the windows and doors are installed and a lot of the wiring has been installed. We have a walk through with the company that does cable, internet, security wiring, etc on Wednesday.

Here's the front of the house with the two garage windows still missing.

I like to tell people in the mental health, medical, and the social work fields that I can walk through walls. But it is easier when the door is open. [;)]

I also tell them that I hear disembodied voices that predict the future, entertain me, and tell me what is going on in the world. At least until I turn the radio off. [;)]

We eventually want to plant a Magnolia tree to the left of the house in front, but any other plans are pretty much on hold until we are able to get the pool and backyard fence built. We are hoping that can all be done by next Summer, but we're hearing stories of wait times for pool construction of 1 - 2 years. [:D]

Until then the most I'm planning is to clear the brush for a path to be able to walk the perimeter of the property and a small stone fire pit for the backyard that can easily be relocated when the pool goes in.

Good Sunday morning - Tithe. [&o][&o][&o]

Pool - that delay is rough. Sadly for pool folks you want tested/quality ones. Assuming in ground it takes a while from start to finish. We worked really hard to get the hole dug/rebarred and poured before the winter so it could all get settled for the spring the finish/tile could be applied. And then the water delivered. It will take a year and a day if you try to fill it with a hose, ours took 6 tractor trailer water tankers to fill!

On the fire pit we made a mistake. The wind doesn't always come from the same direction but 80% of the time it comes from the west here. We put it in a place where most of the time the smoke goes to the seating area next to it. Duh!

We're likely going with a vinyl liner pool and any concrete that needs to be poured to support it, as well as the deck around the pool can be done almost any time of the year here. I'm hoping to build a pretty big one, around 20' x 50', so it will take a lot of water to fill it for sure!

The fire pit we are going to start with will just be some concrete garden bricks to make more of a camp fire pit. It will all be temporary, with folding camp chairs to set up UP wind from the fire. [:D] After it's relocated for the pool and fencing in the backyard, we'll decide if we want something more elaborate or continue to just keep it simple.

Check the pricing between vinyl and stone finish. You will likely need to replace the vinyl in 10 years (or sooner if someone has long nails or does something stupid!) We paved around the pool with stone rather than wood, which was more expensive at the time, but with wood prices today that may not be the case. We had the roof on the house done maybe 7-8 years ago. Oil prices were high so asphalt shingle pricing was high - so went copper. A bit more expensive but that roof will last well beyond my time on the planet, so long term cost effective. And we did it after a pretty bad winter where something like 200 barns collapsed under the weight of snow on the roof. We live in a converted barn. The roofer took 17 tons of roofing material off and replaced it with 4 tons of copper. He had to get special fasteners since the sheathing was basically 170 year oak (basically stone at that age). But labor will be your biggest cost finishing out the place. Go as high end on the materials side as you swing. Installing stone vs formica or something else is the same labor cost.

When the pool is finished, pray for rain. Maybe a Hurricane/Tropical Storm or three . . . [X(]

If you can get fire bricks, those would work better than concrete. Maybe even the bottom of an old steel boiler with a drain hole.

We currently drain the water off the roofs into the pond it really helps keep it up to snuff. The bass make adding in Koi 'challenging'. Anything under 12" is bass food, I really don't want to spend $200/fish to get into the decent sized ones.

Another thing for America - when you put up the sheetrock - make them use drywall screws. Many will use roofing nails if they can get away with it, but the roofing nails they will generally 'pop', leading to joint compound, sanding and hoping the touch up paint matches.

But looks like it is going to be a good haunt.
