There's like 500 groups doing BBQ. A lot are just civvies who have made their own set-ups - everything from split 55 gallon oil drums to things much larger. And I am not licensed to carry so no way I am criticizing their cooking.[8D]

A wise decision! I do not care for the ribs that have too much gooey sauce slathered all over them. A dry rub work for my taste, no matter how spicy it is!

Hardy's has their sauce on the side, you pick the sauce. [:'(]
One problem with Rochester, MN is the demographics. I mean, I should have relocated there, at least for awhile. I understand that at one time, eligible women outnumbered eligible men by nine to one! [:D]

One problem with getting to Tennessee for BBQ now, at least from Arkansas, is that a bridge has developed cracks and is shut down. It is the I-40 bridge. Shades of the I-35 bridge collapse averted.

So the after-effects of the baked beans will smell like BBQ sauce?

RJ - I think Alaska is also a good state to hunt partners in.....and they have some great tax credits....if you can stand the cold.
I prefer dry rub as well. But getting the right rib product seems to be the key. But grilling brisket takes skill. Can I come down? I forget how long ago it was, maybe 15 years ago but a chunk of I95 collapsed in CN. I think it claimed a couple of people

Hi all,
ORIGINAL: Schani59
Good morning all.
Settling into a new routine. Been a busy last week with the Mayo Clinic and started 2nd cycle of chemo plus buying a new stove. Oven element took a big puke it broke up into piece it was hard wired so no replacing the element. Oh well, stove was 24 years old. Boy have stoves change since I bought one for my old house 24 years ago. Most appliances and HVAC in Grand Forks are 24 years old in the existing homes from back then. The 1997 flood. Everything new in the kitchen now except the fridge. Also picked up a $490 kick ass smoker last week for free. Cabela's points on my credit card. Schweet. Old furnace vent in the garage works perfect for venting the smoker. First on the list a beef brisket with a simple dry rub. Then baby back ribs. Neighbors are going to hate me with all those aromas wafting in the air. I may need a security system.[:D]
Best of luck - fingers crossed!

I do not know if you have been to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. If you do go there, I suggest trying Hardy's BBQ there. [:'(]

I lived in Rochester for 5 years and John Hardy's is good. But, I've also lived in Memphis for 5 years and now NC for 19 years. I'm spoiled for BBQ. [:D]
Mike, sounds like you're going to need a new smoker to go with the new house....GP
I will be grilling a lot but I don't have the patience for smoking meats. I'd rather enjoy eating it. [:D]

Garage is detached. Plus an unused furnace vent near the smoker, fits well on a work bench next to a window. A perfect setup. Prices for dining around the Mayo Clinic are crazy. Up to $75 for a T-bone, $55 for prime rib of a steak dinner for two is only $110.[X(]We did Dominos Pizza pick-up. A large Extravaganza under $15. Cheaper than here in Grand Forks. My best friend is a pro on knowing the ins and outs of Rochester and the Mayo. Overall a good time. He went down for his back me over to urology. We will be both going back down for surgeries in August/September. He back surgery me bladder replacement. We are going to be a couple of sorry asses on the way back. He on his stomach me on my back. His wife will be our driver on the way back. God help us. She does not do well driving through Minneapolis.

Bypass the Twin Cities if you have to. Go over to Mankato then NW from there to I-29.

And NYC pricing on the steaks! Yikes. Dominoes - I do like that they offer bacon on their pies. None in this neck of the woods though. The one regret about selling Hoboken and moving up here full time - food options are more limited, so it makes you use the kitchen more. But I miss my butcher.
