RE: Generals Bios Project (yes, it's time) (finally)

By the way, for those wondering why I haven't posted any new bios recently: I was offline for much of the weekend, but did manage to make a big push and get through at least 20 bios. I need to look some things up -- first names of generals, dates of battles, etc. -- before I post them, but will do so soon. It looks like we may well have more than 150 bios in the patch, which is excellent.

850 generals on the wall ... 850 generals on the wall ... take one down ... pass it around ... 849 generals on the wall ...

Huh. I just checked, and found that this project was first proposed back on August 4, 2006. Looks like our first anniversary is not too far away. We'll have at least 200 all done by then, with most of the more difficult/lengthy bios behind us.

Gil,

Any more generals need their bio done? I'm not partial now, I'll even do another Union man.

One of the more pressing needs for a big-name general's bio is Pope. Any interest in him? If so, be sure to check out the earlier discussion in this thread: tm.asp?m=1345045
(As you'll see, someone wrote a bio that was too short, and never expanded it. Battleline added a ton of useful info, though I don't think he meant it to be a bio proper.)

I will do Mr. Pope under great duress, but I will do him. (after all, he is a Yankee) My pleasure to assist.

I'll let you do a Confederate next time.

Gil,

Any more generals need to have a bio? I figure the more I do, the better I get. Also, is the "problem" with forts being destroyed every time instead of captured with a successful siege going to be addressed in the upcoming patch? Wrong thread I know, just thought I would ask.

Thanks.

I'm not sure where the forts business stands at the moment -- that's an Eric thing.

As for generals, the ones who are still needed because they appear in the scenario OOB's are: T.A. Davies, Ormsby M. Mitchel, W.F. Smith, Henry Halleck, Charles P. Stone, J.A. Dix, M. Lovell. If none of them is of interest I can check the main list.

Gill, put me down for Mr. Charles Pomeroy Stone, another Yankee, they're starting to grow on me.

Gil,
I noticed in another post that one of the generals yet to be done was Gregg, and I was hoping to volunteer, if he is still available. My question is, which Gregg is it? After a little prelim work, I foind at least 4, maybe 5 generals from both sides named Gregg, including "Long John" Ivring Gregg, Maxcy Gregg, another John Gregg on CSA side, and David McMurtie Gregg, Union Cavalry General. Some were only brevet generals I realize, but just would like to make sure. Thanks.

D.M. Gregg is the one I had in mind. We've got Maxcy already (though not the less important John).

Gil,
D.M. Gregg it is then. Hope to have him done to your satisfaction soon. Thanks.

Gil,

If still open, I would like to do John Turchin as my next general bio attempt.

Hi,
I was just curious if we need to verify with you if we write a bio?  Also, is there a list left of generals that are needing bios?  Has Nathan Kimball's bio been written?

Thanks

I believe that Kimball is still out there, since a keyword search of this forum turns up nothing. I can't check my master file, since suddenly Excel has gone corrupt on me and I need to figure out where my installation disks are.

You should always check with me, since I alone have the list of which generals have already been assigned (even if I can't open it right now). Anyone else of interest to you?

Sure, with finals being over next week, I would have a lot of time to do a handful.
