Sending them toward Akyab would set off all kinds of alarms and might cause some panicking. You would be threatening in two directions - chase units through Myitkyina while attacking toward India before the units in Burma can get there (harassed as they are). Sort of a forking maneuver. Do penguins use forks?

Don't know what your plans for Burma/India are but it'll take quite some time to march to Akyab and the force will be in not too good shape when it arrives. So I'd think of swapping them with some lower BV unit of the Schwebo advance axis (eg a RGT or two of the 33rd). Unless you expect difficulties taking Akyab and want the BV there or plan to advance further into the Chittagong or even Calcutta region, then you'll need the BV there but also the logistics to support them...

Hi Guys......
After being overtaken by RL for the last 4 months........I had mostly decided to stop this AAR.....as I'm struggling with time enough to play.....but feel I owe Speedy at least some support for what I'm sure is a fine AAR........
So rather than regular updates.....which you will get in spades from Steven........I'll use this as a simple Q and A AAR until we hit some big action.....
So feel free to ask....'What were you thinking?'.....Why on earth did you do that?'......'What is the meaning of life?'......etc and I'll try and help.......
As a quick update.....I've got myself into a H*ll of a mess......by treating AE the same as WitP........somebody forgot to tell me It's like a whole new game!

It's a sinister plot to foil your just acquisition of world dominance! A pox on them, I say!

Alas, my friends........despite still being far too busy at work......I feel it is time to bring this AAR back online.
Instead of the usual continuation of my glorious conquest of the known world.........I fear bad times are upon us.
We have reached early Sept.....1942.
At the end of August '42....in two seperate carrier battles....I lost almost the whole IJN CV Battle fleet.....gone, my friends are.... Akagi, Kaga, Hiryu, Soryu, Zuikaku, Shokaku and poor little Shoho.....along with all.....and yes, I do mean all of their escorts including 2xBBs 4CAs and 12 DDs......also lost are two complete divisions on Attu.
Now my gracious opponent....Speedy.......I know his name is Steven...but let's use his 'Nom de guerre'(forgive any and all spelling mistakes).......has stated he feels I was Unlucky in these encounters.......and yes, very little luck came my way......but in the end I was at fault....and his gameplay exemplary.......
I will not dwell, or indeed cry over lost CVs......Steven, I'm sure will have well documented the events........so I refer you to his AAR for the background.
I felt now was a good time to revive this AAR as my position is, well, almost unique.(yes, I know)
What to do next?
Well, I had been pleased with most of what had occured in the war so far.....I'd failed in China......and lost a BB and a CVL foolishly earlier in the war.....but most of what I had set out to do I had achieved....at a cost which did not seem to excessive.
Hold on.....reviewing what I have written so far.....the style seems a bit......well pompus(sp).......so enough of that.
What to do now......well.....more to the point what will Steven do now......
Chess being the first war game I played.......trying to guess your opponents next move is key.....and in this case it is usually best to ask....'what would I do in his place'.....
Without my CVs....my weak theatre is CenPac.......so, I would Invade Wake....as soon as I can.......and then push on to either Marcus or The 'Marys' ....with the chance at Iwo Jima before I have the chance to defend......then bomb my Vitals into the dust.....badabing badaboom....autovic Jan '44
With this in mind I will hope to set out a battle plan....to push Speedy into at least spring of 1944.....this is my goal....Thread help me...........

Glad to see the PENGUIN return!
It's probably too late to turn WAKE into a fortress, but I would drop a division on IWO pretty soon, as well as the Marianas. You are dead-on that without CVs, the best Allied route in through CentPac.
At least in other theaters, you have LBA to draw on.
You still have a surface fleet in being as well, which coupled with LBA is enough to keep him honest....except in CentPac.
You are in deep trouble though

After seeing those combat replays, faber, it looked to me like you never got off a full strike. Did he gain surprise on you and get a free shot in first?

witpqs............thanks for the adulation.......in future please remember that 'super' is not a strong an adjective for my Penguinicity(sp)(or is there such a word).....Almighty works well.......and for those in doubt...... a smiley to qualify the statement [;)]
Q-Ball.....Saipan has The 19th Div at the moment........my plan is to strip Wake and Marcus of all Avi support.....(I mean I can't do anythiong even if I see them coming)....and load up with combat troops only....the Combat Groups in the HIs look interesting......one for each......I do have three Divs in reserve....mostley in the DEI.....and will wait before I commit.....and yes I am in deep trouble.
Brother Mynok..........I did get first strike in both of the CV engagements...........where the problem seemed to be was the Hit Rate of my Elite strike aircraft.....less than 5% of the aircraft that got through the CAP hit their target..........and in the second battle the 2 Torps that home hit a CLAA......and not a CV....but I did choose to do battle outnumbered in both encounters.......
Sept 6th 1942.......another quiet day as Steven draws breath ready for his next move.....
Steven has started bombing New Caladonia......I have not a single aircraft within 500 miles of the place......and none on the way.....the only Nick group..(4E bomber killers at this stage) are moving to Katherine in Northern OZ....supply is still a big problem here ......Daly Waters just will not get supply....even with 100k woth of the stuff at Darwin........
Lost an AKL to a subs
Lost 2 already damaged PC at Koumac
Thanks to all of Major Mike's help during Threadwar - 1......the economy is ticking along well........but I think the economy is the least of my troubles.....
Maps and thoughts soon.

Sept 7-10
Canarvon(sp) in Oz has been retaken by the Allies.......I had abandoned it several weeks ago......so no real worries.......
However in North Oz.......Steven has attacked Daly Waters......and achived a 1-1......bugger....no matter how hard I try....I can't get any supply there, so am pulling back....whcih is a big problem....if Speedy can push me before I go...then things will be ....somehwat bad!!!!!!
I'll have to prepare for a full on Air War in Oz......not good......as as now Steven will push Air-groups to DW........
All CenPac.....commands are getting supplies ....mines.....and all available troops......
I see V. Dark clouds on the horizon.........and not so much Rising Sun....

Faber, if it's any consolation, Speedy should have just as much, if not more, trouble getting supply into Daly Waters as you did.

Hi USS .......this is my hope.........I expect Speedy's strategy here to be kind of 'I'll hold the nose while you kick his *ss'......he knows I can't get supply to DW.......so no real chance of an offensive down the track there.....so I think he'll leave a holding force and then fan out to the west.....so I'll need to get some forces on the Western river crossings pronto......and Bomb all his troops on the move......when I pushed South of DW....his bombers hit me hard.....of course they were not Sallies but B-17s......
