Another day passes and the remants of 18th British Div manages to get a little further away without a rout.

We are off the main road so if he wants to catch me it will be armour alone.

I have a few suprises of my own bubbling

Less than a Bn left now of 18th British Div between airpower and constant retreats the Div has been shredded.

Actually apart from the little bug over one Bde I am happy with how its panned out

A routed Div pursued by 2 Divs with a lot of Armour on a good road with hostile air should be getting trashed and it has ben - so from a model perspective its worked as it should

The original defeat at Darwin turns out to be due to a problem with the game engine's handling of beach assaults.

Can only agree here. While it´s not sure the base would have held with a working invasion model, the losses during the landings would have been much higher. I´m talking about losses and disruption to ground troops assaulting the beach and not about the ship losses (which should also have happened but are not that much a factor for the outcome of the following ground combat).

As it stands now, with the screwed CD routine, a not even existing model of the assault on a (hostile) beach and the IJN amphib bonus, the IJA can take every base at will. Only bring at least as many divs as the enemy has, some support and you will have excellent chances to take the base because you get ashore without damage, without disruption and your twice as experienced divs with more firepower will take out every defender with more or less equal av.

I won´t wait either and have my game going on. And I really enjoy it. But those routines nevertheless are really borked and as seen in the PH-thread and many other examples IMO.

I suspect I over estimated my ability to hang on even with the routines - lesson learned dont commit forward unsupported

its the retreat thats kuilled the Div String has pursued the Division to its death with armour and air power.

But I will be back - someday.....

Anyway other stuff is happening as well Mini KB is floating around south of Timor cutting off ships evaccing to the south.

A wise move as I was trying to evac so that little game of evaccing units is done with whats left will stand and fight

Is there a reason you chose to leave the 18th Div in its component and didn't recombine it?

Is there an advantage or disadvantage to combining divisions?

A fragment of the Div was on a transport that string chased away so I was unable to recombine I always would if I can.

He has forces hovering around south java stopping me evaccing not a lot else to say at present

So, essentially CD guns are vastly undermodelled in the current patch and waste their fire on PB boats?

Is there a home rule which can fix this? I'm thinking of something along the lines of.... any invasion TF must comprise a covering TF but ONLY AKs and APs in the actual landing TF. In that situation would we get more realistic landing losses and disruption?

I'm asking as if this is a code issue then I'd be willing to HR it in my current game but want to HR it in a manner which helps fix the problem and not exacerbate it.

Or more likely you must use DD's DE's Cl's etc i.e. no auxcilliary escorts unless the invasion TF is less than 5 or 10 ships total maybe that way you dont get 95 LST's and 5 PB's at least your opponent is having to use pukka escorts unless its a minor invasion.

It should get fixed though I assume someone is looking at it

Ok, that sounds like a reasonable work-around. I'm sure it will be fixed but in the meantime I'd rather my defences didn't get rendered impotent by a gaggle of PBs. So, I'll HR it until such time as a hotfix fixes this.

Disaster at Suva

Ok more to follow tonight but String sent KB (that I thought was off Darwin) to hit Suva

All my aircraft were on train so the (fortuantely empty) convoy in harbour was trashed.

He shouldhave hit the AF - if he sticks around tomorrow it will get nasty.

nasty for him or nasty for you? I would place my bids on "it will get nasty for you". [;)] What do you have there that won´t be trashed by KB? Everything else below 50 fighters and three dozen divebombers sent out in one strike won´t achieve much IMO. I´ve got 60 naval skill 4E bombers not hitting uncapped AKs that are unloading somewhere, so I don´t expect much from any level bombers doing unescorted (or without dozens of escorts) bombing runs against KB with a Cap of problably around 80+.

Well let me see on Suva I have 54 USN SBD's of the VS Sqns off of three carriers and 24 P38's plus about 36 P40's and 24 P36's...

Not to mention about 20+ B17's and Bolos.........

So if he hangs about and I get lucky tomorrow.........

All rested and ready to fly

yeah, with the 54 SBDs and 60 good fighters it would definetely mean trouble for him. Didn´t know you´ve had so much force on the Fidjis.

Nope he sent in a BB TF and blew the crap out of the AF last night most of my aircraft look to have been torched on the ground - total failure - more to follow later

and how did this work now? [&:] So far we´ve been told that without recon, recon, recon you won´t get any result from a nav bombardement. Yet in this case it´s nevertheless a nuke that then destroys the first line aircraft replacement rate of a couple of months. Oh, come one... [:(]

Havent seen the turn and he had the whole of KB destroy a TF at port the day before so his recon would have been pretty good.

Not uspet with the mechanics at all should have seen it coming

My bet is Andy Mac had overstacked his AF and paid the price. [8D] Overstacked AFs are supposed to be very vulnerable to attacks.
