Leningrad front, he attacked here on a narrow front, looks to want to cut the city off but doesn't look to me that he has the strength to do it.

Moscow front, I feel more secure here than I did 2 weeks ago, it looks like he is positioning his forces for the winter, still not sure yet but that's how it feels.

Orel front, now here things are not so good, he punctured the front and encircled some units, but I have managed to position my troops in some depth so I hope to be able to keep his advance in check next turn.

Now here is a real mess. He beat the crap out of me on this front. Going to lose alot of men next turn. Luckily i have reserves in the area and have dropped back and just like farther north am trying to do the defense in depth thing. It is ugly as he has alot of armor here. I did evacuate the T-34 factories from Kharkov, was not going to lose those[:-].

In the south am fighting to hold the river but will probably lose it as he fought across and I couldn't drive him back. Will fall back next turn regardless as the front farther north probably will not hold.

A couple of comments so far. One thing it is taking me time to get the feel of is that you never see the enemy move, all you have are the battle reports. They are fine but don't really give you the feel of how your enemy is moving his troops. Maybe this never happened in the real war but I would think you would have some Intel and recon to show troops moving. Not a real problem, just something to get used too.

Soviet reinforcements are really plentiful, far more than even i was expecting, and I have read alot on this front. Of course i have not suffered the same casualties as the Russians did historically, so many of my divisions are closer to TOE than they probably were in real life. If you play the german side, you REALLY NEED to kill Russians any chance you get.

Command and Control for Russian side is very difficult early on, there are so many changes from turn to turn it is very easy to overload HQ's and leave others commanding nothing. Using the commander report has made this much easier. I always check it before I end the turn to make sure things are not to far out of control. You can make many changes right from that report, which does cut down on the micro management.

I cannot speak for my opponent, but i really am enjoying the game so far, it is challenging as heck and even if you lose you will enjoy the ride.

Ah Miller I think your opponent is in for trouble. You are surviving summer 41 in great shape on all fronts it looks like. Casualty ratio is not very good for Germany either. Congrats.

You might want to double-stack defenders in the cities....or not...it depends on the chance they'll be surrounded. [:'(]

Thanks denver, but I am not counting chickens just yet[:D]. I feel like things are ok but it could turn quickly.

randall your right but like you say they are targets to be surrounded and frankly once the factories are gone they are just another hex[:'(]

That might be one thing developers might want to look at if Russian side appears to be to easy, make it a little harder to move factories out right away (maybe by adjusting the railroads some) and make the Russians commit to fighting for territory more, I have basically fallen back from every position after just some resistance and in real life i think that would not have been palatable. Just a thought, maybe I am just having better luck that some others (like Tophat[:D] )

The amount of evacuation by the Russians during the war is considered impressive; the amount of rail capacity in the game may be in the correct spirit of massiveness.

You've done a decent job of force preservation.

Thanks randall, it is made easier by my opponents lack of really deep penetrations, and it can be done against this defense, you should see my other game[;)]

Anyway here is the Leningrad position. I am thinking he is starting to set positions for the winter here, i don't think he has the force to take the city or even cut it off so he is more passive. I though he might come from Novograd and flank the weak position farther south but he hasnt.
