Operation Sealion.....

I was thinking about something we had discussed about where to go from here. I think I suggested that we look at the speculative idea of Gemany invading Englan. (Operation Sealion)

So I decided to do some research on it as I had never really read anything about it. Hoo Boy! What a farce that was.

But, I did find an immensely fun site to read about the Operation and the Dream World Hitler and his invasion planners were living in. Here is the link. This guy has the typical "DRY" (but, funny) British sense of humor.

From the sounds of this, I guess we would really have to take some serious leaps of imagination to come up with a plausible invasion of the Island with the conditions that existed then.

Oh Well, back to the drawing board.

From a documentary I have at home, one man (an Englishman)mentioned that after Dunkirk, England army-wise was basically defenseless as all the equipment had to be left in France. He said he had a friend whose job it was to guard 2 miles of coastline with one WWI artillery piece.

Timing is everything...

After I read that link about sealion it really gave me a better appreciation of what was accomplished at D-Day.

The window of opportunity for Hitler was a short but huge window. If he had known the extent of the defenses after Dunkirk and had prosecuted them it may have been a different story.
