A very readable account of the exploits of the most famous US subs, using personal anecdotes from the crews to recreate dialogue and tactics used during the battles. Example: USS Wahoo reconning Wewak harbour by periscope:
Mush Morton at periscope: "We better turn around now, I can see the palm trees at high power."
Crew member:" Um, sir, you are at low power setting."
Mush Morton (switching to high power): Jesus Christ! I can see the
coconuts! ALL ASTERN - back us out of here!
