Yo, Obvert. Your list is great. But I note a serious omission. Books by Alvin Coox. He was/is a fundamental source/author for any serious student of the Asian conflict. Lots of your titles cite him as a primary reference. He is a serious historian of the old school. He is dense and informative, and perfect, but his style and focus doesn't comport with contemporary wanna-be imperitives because they ain't bright enough to figure out what he's saying. He's another one that is on the reading list for AIS, NIS, ISA.

Lots of your titles cite him as a primary reference. He is a serious historian of the old school. He is dense and informative, and perfect, but his style and focus doesn't comport with contemporary wanna-be imperitives because they ain't bright enough to figure out what he's saying. He's another one that is on the reading list for AIS, NIS, ISA.

To be honest when I do something here I haven't even checked to see if the books I've read and over are on it, yet! [:D]

Just trying to add what others have suggested over the years. nearly finished adding now and then I can have a look through and do some Amazon buying.

I'll add this if it's not there for sure.

Thank you Obvert.

Now I have studied and read and shadowed these forums since just before Christmas of 2015 and this is one thread I failed to come upon.

This is incredibly valuable in the "hobby sense".

I suspect many of the players also "hobby read" about the War (or Wars or History).

If the moderators dont deem it sticky material - perhaps it could be linked in the FAQ for Newbies in the War Strategies Forum????

... again I didn't see it there either and I was obviously not smart enough to simply search "book thread" which brings it up.

Christmas ain't far away fellas. Time to start looking for stocking stuffers...

I don't know if it has been listed but I am reading Storm Over Leyte right now and it is excellent. Am roughly halfway thru and the telling of the Japanese planning for the Sho Operation, their changes to tactics, strategy, and hopes for the battle is very enlightening. After my terrible experience with The Most Dangerous Moment of the War, this has been quite refreshing. John Prados has usually been a pretty good author but this time he has outdone himself.

Good point - Christmas is coming and what better way to celebrate than with one or more of these excellent books?

For interested parties : Kaigun: Strategy, Tactics, and Technology in the Imperial Japanese Navy has become available in Kindle format.

For people like me who can not keep a personal room ( I lost mine to my daughter ) this is a good way to get books u like.

Now I'm waiting for Rikugun by Ness to become available on kindle.

I like those books with many photos and short write-ups. Eg :

World War II The Definitive Visual Guide by DK, etc. A photo paints a thousand words.[&o]

Islands of Destiny, by the same author as Leyte is the precursor and is an excellent read. I glanced and didn't see either on the master list
