Turn 26: (Dec 25, 1943)
The V US Corps is surrounded again. I can't seem to stop anything he does on land, his units are more
powerful and mine are falling apart. The Axis Naval Interdiction is quite strong again, it is weak at the
start of the turn so some of my supplies are getting through, but I am down to only two of my beaches now and
that is not sending in enough supplies. Shipping more troops and such into the invasion area is just sending
more good resources into a bad situation. The Axis is down to under 1500 aircraft total before my air phase.

Air: I continue with the same air directives as last turn. He has lost another 200 aircraft during my turn so
far bringing his total aircraft to around 1300 left. I have managed to gain control of the supply routes into
the invasion area.

Land: Not much going on. I try and bolster the invasion area's defenses. The air situation is turning to my
favor and I will see if that helps at all. I expand more airbases in the ETO to hold more aircraft.

Baelfin, I think the next post (with the Air Directives) answers your question almost as though I had planned it that way . . .

Turn 27: (Jan 1, 1944)
The invasion area shrinks some more. The V US Corps is eliminated. He continues to advance against my best
attempts. The Axis naval interdiction has again closed off the beaches so no more supplies this turn. His
current aircraft total is under 1400 - the one bright spot of this whole mess.

Air: I don't change any air directives this turn. He lost another 111 aircraft and is now sitting at around
1250 left. I do manage to gain control of the seas off the invasion area but that will not help my lack of
supplies or replacements. My air transports are not able to supply enough for the troops.

Land: I am withdrawing what I can from the invasion area. I am starting with armored divisions and HQs. My
naval losses have been severe and I am limited in my lift capacity.

Turn 28: (Jan 8, 1944)
I am forced out of two more hexes in the invasion area. His current aircraft total is under 1200.

Air: My air stays pretty much the same except that I send the 8th USAAF on a new set of three missions
against fighter factories. I destroy another 75 Axis aircraft during the phase.

Land: I currently have T:82 C:1419 available for naval transport at the beginning of the phase. I manage to
withdraw two armored divisions, two Corps HQs, and a brigade from the invasion area. The rest reorganize to
hold as best as they can.

If he destroys this invasion, he's quite sure to win the campaign no matter what happens to the France invasion... That's the problem.

I cant tell how many fighters you have on the naval air over your beach area.
Why are you not putting any interdiction or ground bombing onto his units? Or is it there and not showing?

There has been extensive interdiction, naval patrol, and superiority over the entire invasion area. The problem is that the Tactical AF does not project the interdiction values that the 9th USAAF does over northern France. I am usually lucky to have interdiction levels of 2 or 3 in clear terrain and nothing at all in rough/mountain - i.e. the majority of the Italian terrain.
Baelfin, look at post #126. It lists the 15th USAAF Naval Superiority mission with 978:1148 sorties flown. So 978 bombers flew in total and 1,148 escorts/fighters flew.

Turn 29: (Jan 15, 1944)
Three attacks by the Axis, all successful, squeeze the beach head further down. The Axis are under 1100
aircraft now.

Air: Air directives change slightly as I attack the airfields in central Italy instead of unit bombing in the
main Axis defensive line.

Land: I currently have T:75 C:1447 available for naval transport this turn. I remove one armored, one
airborne, three infantry divisions and one Corps HQ. This runs me out of the port capacities and still leave
a decent strength front line in Italy.

Turn 30: (Jan 22, 1944)
The Axis were able to push back the Allies in two hexes again but were held from capturing another beach
head.
