Pike and Shot ...
Even now, we are marching on Vienna to relieve the defenders from siege by the evil Kara Mustafa and his marauding horde !
I've been playing Ageod games lately after getting a bunch in a sale ... but Pike & Shot is still my favourite game at the moment.

A beta update of a certain oft-maligned HPS game - and it's darn good so far!

Ageod's 30 Years War. A fantastic game I would happily recommend to any fan of the era. However, need to invest some time in understanding the various components, but it is not as difficult as you might think. However, you then need to invest a lot more time working out how to bring these various strands together into a coherent strategy. Once you have cracked that, possibly with a great deal of trial and error, you have one hell of a fantastic game. I am a recent convert to Ageod Games, and I cannot believe how I had missed out on these great games for so long.
Not a fan of Aegod games, even on sale. Just never liked the combat results format.

Pike and Shot is way up on my list too.
It's just not the mechanics of the game that appeal to me ... but also the atmosphere and majestic nature that the troop movements can take on.
I was always impressed by the battle formations of the Roman Legions moving towards the freed slaves in Stanley Kubrick's Spartacus.
Slow, menacing, purposeful .... you can feel their "weight" as they cross the battlefield.
With Pike and Shot ... I lower the game speed down to 30% and enjoy the "weight" of large formations maneuvering towards amazing looking cities or Fortresses ....
I enjoy the slow motion of the artillery as they blast into massed ranks of defenders ...
Honestly, I'd love to see a lot of this in the Ancients era as well ... but there are existing threads for FOG vs P&S - and this is not one of them.
Good work Slitherine - you and the Dev hit one out of the park on this title and deserve quite a bit of credit ....

Yes, Richard Bodley Scott is a great and caring designer. But for some reason, I do not get the same excitement from Sengoku Jidai: Shadow of the Shogun. It kind of bores me, but maybe need more playing time.

I played through Journey today for the first time. It was on the PlayStation Plus free games for this month. I have to say, while the game is marvelous in many ways, if I had paid fifteen dollars for it I would have been dissaponted. The whole thing is over in a couple hours at most, and there isn't much reason to ever play it again. As an "art" game I think it is great, but as a game overall I found it underwhelming.
I'm still mostly playing Squad every day. It's just a lot of fun.
I also just finished a game in Unity, a simple top down space shoot em up, but it actually ended up being pretty fun. Gave me a chance to exercise those trigonometry lessons from high school. Finally a practical use for that stuff!
Tomorrow will be a rainy Sunday, so I'm gonna try to get in a game of A Distant Plain, one of the COIN boardgames that is really great.

Oh, sorry for the confusion, Unity is a free game development tool,
this is their website. The game I made was more of a learning project, not anything meant to be published. If you really want to play it I can message you a download link. Or you can go to my blog (link in sig) and see what it looks like.

the grass moves and so does the tree's in the wind, and so does the animals, the clouds, the weather, you can have 1000's of troops rolling over the land, build, war, level up, it's got it all, and looks great
can be altered to suit your hardware, on the best it really is a treat for the eyes and plays great as well

I am playing a lot of PBEM ++, and enjoying so much the system with those games:
P&S
Senguko Jidai
DC: B
GG WITE
Flashpoint Campaign Red Storm
I wish if AGEOD games are using Slitherine server based PBEM system.

What about military unit sizes? In Hegemony Rome: The Rise of Caesar is supposed to have legions, but bodycount of a legion is much less than what
Wikipedia says.

Play as one of 16 different factions each with their own special bonuses or penalties
there's not really a limit on the amount of forces you can have on the battlefield, so far around 5 to 10k is about my max, but unknown if there is a limit as such
size of each given unit depends on race faction, type of unit, and tech developed

The same here, playing P&S, BA2, FoG
For me any game with pbem++ guarantee a lot of good gaming hours...
