Pymous - what's your medium? Is it electronic or physical. If this were 30 years ago, I guess water paints.

Hi Mark, these are digital painting, but yes I am painting with big brushes, looking for volumes/shapes and composition, then going more in details. Most of the time I don't do linework, thats why it somewhat looks like aquarelle work

Well, you've definitely captured the feel of watercolor paints in digital form!
As an example, Gunnel Moheim:

Thanks mroyer! This is a huge compliment, I am not sure I deserve it. I am far from these masters painting levels. Maybe in 15-20 years if I am lucky...
So I continue my training! Some Walkers, again... but Yellow this time ^^

Keep at it Pymous!
I use to do a lot of pencil and watercolor work ages ago when I was a kid - that is, before a technical-engineering education beat that kind of creativity out of me [:(]

(Actually, engineering has its own, different sort of creativity which I thoroughly enjoy too.)

I am actually an engineer myself :p
My dream would be to turn 100% Freelance one day, and ideally spending all my time painting for "the players community" : Graphic mods / mods / maps / total conversion mods for games like Shadow Empire / Dominions / Distant Worlds, ...
It would require financial freedom, that's all the problem... wonder if some kind of "Help me become your artist" would have any chance to work, would be a solution if I can get a guaranty for example 1200€/month to live... (through patreon / ko-fi platforms). But it's another big dream :p (but it's important to have dreams ;) )

By the way some stuff (for potential Vidcom modding):

Yes indeed, "financial freedom" is what allows you to switch from 'what you have to do' to 'what you want to do'. It is a rare, very lucky person for whom those two pursuits align without financial freedom.

I think your dream might be achievable, albeit at extreme risk - far beyond what I personally would be comfortable with. And, probably not with games like SE. Their market appeal is too narrow and there simply isn't a lot of money there to support artists. You'd need to somehow tap into games with a broad market base where revenue streams are much larger and artists are hired as part of the team.

I hired a young college student from Rochester Institute of Technology for an intern position a few years back. His major happened to 'gaming' software, although that's not what I hired him for. He talked about the gaming major as having three principle sub-paths - software engineering, the technical aspects of designing, developing and writing the software - story writers, the effort to create a backdrop plot and story line - and, artists, the creating of all the graphics art and 2d/3d rendering.

So, there is a place for that.

A Scene inspired by Jadey, a Shadow Empire player who discovered a 82m tall mega-beast in his MP game. More info about this creature can be found here:
