Bought Helldivers today and played it a hour and half. Top-down shooter up to 4 players. Supports microphone. Seems to have many of the same features as better known sequel. If your computer isn't up to the spec to run Helldivers 2 but you still want to contribute to peace, freedom, and managed democracy across the galaxy in the last line of offence, original game is still a fine choice.
Casper Van Dien compares Helldivers 2 to Starship Troopers movies.

I modified civ3 which I am playing while waiting for a new computer.
Apparently, Intel is having a problem with one of their graphics chips so I have to beware of those issues with DirectX

Every once in a while I get an itch to play RTS. This time I chose Sudden Strike Gold. World Wars (both of them). No base building/management, but scenario may throw player new units by paradrop or other means. Some buildings can be occupied, after possible enemy is eliminated. Supply trucks repair vehicles and deploy pontoon bridges. Heavy guns can be captured and used against their original owner. Among other things. Looks promising.
In screenshot (from a YouTube video) a Jagdtiger is distracted by French resistance infantry and gets a flank hit from a captured AA gun.

For PC wargaming, its WDS series (all of them really but specifically I am playing a PBEM scenario from the following: Campaign Austerlitz, Campaign Leipzig, Campaign Marengo, Napoleon's Campaign in Russia, Wellington's Peninsula War, Campaign Gettysburg, Campaign Chickamauga, Campaign Shenandoah, War of 1812, East Prussia '14, Serbia '14, Campaign, Rumyantsev '43, PanzerBattles: North Africa 1941, and Normandy 44.
For board wargaming I am PBEM'ing 4 ASL scenarios and just started two campaign games.
As much fun as WDS games are, the ASL games are the cream of the crop

I came across Sudden Strike some 22 years ago - and enjoyed it (unusually as I'm not really into RTS) mainly because the scenery and buildings reminded me of playing table top wargames in the 1960s with Bish Iwaszko in Richmond, West London. Here's bit of an article on him. (We had, for 1968 a logarithmic range ruler - this pre PCs)

And now I changed to fantasy war game Symphony of War. Lost couple hours of sleep while playing it. Off to bed I go.

Symphony of War (restarted many times after DLC, didn't finish yet) Triangle Strategy( sharp increase in difficulty through early mid game, still in mid game) Tactics Ogre: Reborn (very compicated to start

but still my library never touch), was playing Persona 5 Royal but started again Grim Dawn after surprise patch. Titan Quest was my favorite from the same developer.

Still playing ASL, now into my third month back after that ten year break. Loving it. Into Chapters A-E, and also been doing some SASL, love it.
Decided to try to do some blogging about it, will be slow going as I learn how to use WordPress.

Stalingrad scenario, an SGIII with a 75mm gun moves behind a T34C. The T34C rotates its turret and with a lucky shot dispatches the SGIII!

Ageod's Birth of America 1.12a
Advanced Tactics
I am getting more pleasure from old games that run easily on laptops without fan noise. I suppose I am getting ever more easily irritated.
Oh yes, and For The Glory - a sort of Europa Universalis 2.5 - again runs silently on a budget laptop.

For Ageod style gaming. I highly recommend SGS Taipings especially with recent patch. Loyalty mechanics and local Green army, Qing imperial army, Ever Victorious Army( under Confucius final army) ,Tonkinese army vs foreign devils (British, France, Portuguese, Nien bandits etc..) and Taiping rebellion. Fun to play.

Found a new game that made it to Steam just last week:
Frontline Crisis
A combination of top-down shooter and tower defense. Player controls a mecha, extracts minerals from the ground, use said minerals to build buildings. Buildings can be weapon towers, repair shop, weapon factories (for mecha), mineral collectors (so player wouldn't need to do it alone) etc. Enemies are a variety of bugs. I dig.
