The Bombardment TF is standing by at Kendari delivering fire support, with an invasion fleet right behind it.
There is also a Carrier TF (looks like CarDiv One with Akagi and Kaga) standing off to the East in support.
I am not strong enough to attack these forces, considering the losses and damage I have taken.

A real scouting failure on my part at Baker Island. AVD Thornton was there to tend the PBY Catalinas on patrol. I figured she could scoot if I saw a threat approach.
What DID approach was a TF with CVs IJN Soryu and possibly IJN Hiryu that snuck up on USS Thornton and trashed her. There are no carriers of mine in the area to catch this force, so he has done to me what I did to him.

After two months of war, Mogami is ahead of schedule, it appears.
He has all of the Phillipines excepting Manila, Clark Field, and Bataan.
He holds most of the DEI except the Maylay Barrier (Java, etc.).
I still hold out at Singapore, Georgetown, and Taiping. Rangoon is still Allied, but the massive IJA 55th Div approaches.
In China, it looks like Mogami is slowly looking to encircle me from the north.
Mogami has modest operations are moving forward in the Solomons where key islands such as Shortlands, Tulagi, and Guadacanal are Japanese. Rabaul and most of New Ireland, are also his.
The Gilberts are now occupied, and soon Mogami can start really calling the tune as to where he strikes.
I continue to play for time as he know I must...

Mogami is ahead of the historical timeline, but behind the average PBEM game. By the first week in February, the Japanese have usually mopped up the entire Malaysian Peninsula, taken Rangoon, and seized Manila, Clark AFB, or both. On the other hand, Mogami's style as the Japanese is generally slow but irresistible, so by his own personal standards I would say he's doing well, with one exception. Singapore is actually inflicting more IJA casualties than it's receiving. If Mogami is using historical forces this means trouble, since the defenders actually putnumbered the beseigers.

Hi, I don't plan things down to the day as far as when I will conduct a landing or capture a base. (thats impossible)
What I do prewar is decide those areas I wish to take and assign what I think are sufficent forces. I maintain a reserve to draw on. I plan on inflicting more damage then I sustain and allot time depending on how urgent the requriments are.
In Malaya we have a situation where the Allied force and Japanese forces are divided between North and South. I need to finish off the Northern Allied force to free up forces for Singspore. But I'm not going to accept high loss to do it faster.
The situation in the Philippines is going to improve in the near future for Japan.
I will allot more airforce to help.
I am still on time for meeting my prewar goals.
Phase II operations are begining to take shape as I recon the enemy dispositions and decide where I can go to cause the most damage. I don't have a 2nd Phase plan at start because it depends totally on the enemy.
Dadman is a very resourceful guy. He causes me a lot of headaches. (As do all my opponents.)
I don't really think I am suited to command the Japanese. I am not a risk taker. Most of my opponents are always allowed to score success against me for three reasons.
1. They take chances I never would
2. They don't seem to care about lossess to the degree that I do.
3. I don't attack places where as the Allied player I know I can hold or inflict more damage then I sustain. This helps because even in games where my Allied opponenets do not prepare a good defense I just assume it has been done.
I'm not out to break any speed or victory point records. I'm just trying to make it very hard for the enemy to score 2-1 ratio at any time during the game. I'll hve to see how it goes.
I have several players who are waiting for the patch before starting PBEM game. I am going to run Japan in 2 further games and will have a new plan that incorperates lessons learned in the 6 games I am already Japan. I can't find anything wrong with my Allied plan yet so I will use it again intact.

No Allied casualties are reported from Japanese shelling.
The Allied shelling generates 63 Japanese casualties and 1 Allied casualty. Perhaps he was the victim of a Friendly Fire incident. 1 Allied Gun was lost as well, so maybe there was a breech explosion from hang fire…
