After a fantastic week's time away in Turkey I return.

The relative quiet continues over the Pacific with me resting my men and repairing my ships before the upcoming invasion of Wake probably at the end of April/early May.

I assume Faber is reting his ships and training pilots after losing a lot of IJN aviators.

Today for example the only action was a failed sub attack by SS Shad on an AK 180 miles south of Nagoya, the usual bombing by me on Myitkyina and me on IJA units in China.

My 'Mandalay Strike force' is 23 miles away from the rail........

Not all that quiet; a fair amount of air and ground combat. I notice from the summary that the Japanese seem to have a much larger share of base points. Has the penguin gotten that much further in terms of territory?

This is a 42A campaign. As such all territory historically conquered by the Japanese is represented at game start May 1942.

Since the start Faber has only advanced into China with me holding 4 bases now (Yunan, Chengtu, Kunming and Chungking).

The 10th was a similar day. SS Seadragon patrolling near Formosa reported being hit by an Alf bomb which was later found to be false.

A B24 BG arrived at Karachi today and was moved to Dimapur with orders to bomb the troops at Myitkyina.

A little surprise went into action today! Faber has been bombing Yunan mercilessly from Hanoi and Kweiyang.

As such a specially selectd group of P38 pilots from the 23rd FG had been ordered to fly from Ledo to Yunan to provide defence for the base. They performed well:

The 12th was relatively quiet with just the usual attacks occuring.

The 13th had a bit more action............

The Dutch minelaying sub O19 had just finished unloading her cargo at the atoll of Truk when her crew spotted a small transport convoy on the horizon. She submerged and launched 2 torpedo's at AP Tarushima Maru, they both missed. 3 x Patrol Craft were escorting the convoy and in the shallow waters easily located the sub. 2 x DC salvos from PC CH 23 heavily damaged he sub leaving her flooding in the stern quarters. She will hopefully make PH....hopefully.

SS Amberjack attacked a 4 x DD ASW TF south of Okinawa and was not located in return...all torpedo's miised DD Inazuma

At last my subs have some success today!

SS Drum patrolling 480 miles east of Luzon attacked a small convoy hitting AK Akagi MAru with 3 torpedo's leaving her sinking quickly by the bow......

Unfortunately SS Seawolf (patrolling 120 miles outside of Batavia) missed AK Durban Maru and SS Shad's torpedo's failed to detonate against the hull of TK Azuma Maru

Nothing untoward happened on the 15th but on the 16th.............

SS Stingray had success in heavily damaging an empty small transport (AP Yosyu Maru) 240 miles ESE of Davao. Several escorts tried to find my sub but failed in doing so.

SS Sunfish missed AK Hokko Maru 120 miles ESE of Batan Island......[:-]

By end of play tomorrow all of Kiska Assault troops should be on board their transports and the fleet will set sail.

A large convoy was formed in San Francisco today bound for Midway. It will deliver 220,000 tonnes of supply and fuel + 6 air units:

1 x PBY
1 x Liberator
1 x Corsair
1 x SBD
1 x Ventura
1 x P38

These are being stationed their for the upcoming invasion of Wake in 6-8 weeks time.

Do Liberators have the range for a midway-wake run ? it's a hell of a long trip and iirc B17's cant do it. Not sure about Lb-30's or B24's though.

Don't think they can - B-24s/LB-30s only have a range (extended) 1 greater than B-17s.

LB-30's can reach Wake from Midway in the game. Accordingly in one game i set up a Ki-27 Sentai to deal with them. Now how's THAT for surreal......[:D]

They are also on Midway for enhanced naval search[8D]

The range from Midway to Wake is 14 hexes = extended range for Libs IIRC.

My most successful sub war day for a couple of weeks........

SS Seadragon had fun with a 5 ships ASW TF 180 miles east of Formosa. She was detected early in the morning but no attacks were made against her. Throughout the day she played cat and mouse and fired 8 torpedo's at her attackers. Some of which missed, the others failed to detonate! By end of the day the ASW ships had departed th scene. Presumably due to fuel. SS Seadragon will reposition 60 miles further east.

SS KXV hit the oil laden TK San Pedro Maru with 2 torpedo's.....unfortunately the escorts found her and sank her with the loss of all hands.....her 'success' is shown below.

SS Drum hit the oil laden TK Nisshin Maru with 2 torpedo's 420 miles east of Lamon Bay.....she should sink.

The usual air attacks in China (Yunan by Faber) and in Burma (Myitkyina by me).

My Rangoon advance force should reach the rail line in the next 2 days.....8 units await me. I doubt i'll dislodge him or him me but at least it will cut the supply route to Myitkyina.

Attu's transports should leave for Kiska tomorrow.
