A full blown dismounted Inf feature ( with seperate units for the transport and inf components ) has not yet been added to the engine. It won't make it for BFTB either. The engine does model the dismounting of inf in a more abstract way. Whenever, such units enter an area threatened by effective enemy fire, then a dismount flag is set and they move at foot rates. However, the unit does not split up into two components. As a result you cannot give such a unit an order to enter terrain that only a foot unit can enter. I realise that this is not totally realistic but modelling this will be a big job. It is in our top four on the wish list.

Hi Arjuna,

Probably a premature and/or potentially loaded question........ but I'd love to know what the other 3 top enhancements will be. [&o]

  • Cross River Assault
  • Minefields - laying and clearing
  • Off-map fire support - ground, naval and air

Sounds Good.

  • A LoS tool that shows all areas seen by all units, like in RTS games.
  • Sound ranging or aerial recon for counter-battery fire? Not sure how realistic or relevant this would be to implement, just wondering.
  • The manual indicates nothing about AA actually performing as anti-air. Any chance that stationing an AA unit somewhere can reduce the severity of airstrikes there, like in Combat Mission?
  • A notification when a bridge is fully primed (or is being unprimed) would be nice, so I don't have to check with the engineering unit constantly to see if they're done.
  • Come to think of it, a given estimated time to finish priming a bridge would be useful. An ETA when using the pathfinding tool with a unit would be too.
  • Does aggro level in CotA affect on call arty? If not then it should, since bombardment messes up ambushes.

OK consider that added to the list.

Already on the list.

This has already been incorporated into the soon to be released BFTB.

Good idea.

Not sure what you mean here, please elaborate.

Hmmm. I was under the impression that low aggro is good for ambushes, but turns out none of the references mention that. Anyway I was suggesting that aggro affect not only direct fire, but also calling for artillery. Because if I have an ambush set up, I don't want the enemy to bunker down or fall back from arty fire before they run into it.

  • Moving a rest order location shouldn't automatically set formation to 'unspecified'. I keep accidentally moving battalions when they need sleep.

edit: wow, I didn't even notice the BFTB forum until now.
