My half-brother in Germany had this thing called a Ford XMax (iirc). Damn nice family car if you ask me. Big enough that you cant reach back far enough to smack the kids upside the head and small enough to park.

Nein! Nein! And three times Nein! I shall not drive any vehicle of that nature. Anything that looks like a mini-bus is not the transport for me. Looking at something with space for wee man in the back and a smaller engine, a cheeky 1.6L should do me for now.

If the last 4 years are anything to judge by, absolutely nothing will change in the tax rates simply because no one will let this administration increase taxes on those with an income of $250K+/year and no one would be stupid enough to raise taxes on those with less income without that stipulation. If they do, I'll be protesting in front of the White House right there with you.

And what in the world do regulations have to do with hiring? Theyre just the rules you play by in whatever industry youre in. If I have a manufacturing business and all of a sudden the goobermint tells me to increase my employee safety standards, I will not shut down my business in a huff of annoyance. I'll change my business practices to conform with the regulations just like I've done for every other regulation since I opened my business. Sorry, as a business owner I would not have the luxury of picking and choosing which regulations I abide by based on what administration passed them, which is what seems to be the implication here. Oh, and by the way, if I still need a forklift driver, and you happen to be a driver of forklifts, I'll still hire you. [8|]

But while the snappish comment by someone who has propably never run an own company implicates I was to weak to work with the regulations - the regulations would've made my legitimate company impossible within five years and already made it almost impossible to increase market share in 2013. So I took the first chance to end it all with just a blue eye.

Regulations make some businesses impossible, while they favor big companies in other fields and make competing with established businesses almost impossible.

The chemical plant is a good example for what I should've mentioned: SOME regulations make sense.


Regulations have the characteristic, that they are usually explained as to be necessary to help the people, protect the people, or whatever. While this might be legit in the case of a chemical plant or a water dam, they often are rather the product of the believe people can't take care for themselves - or they are the result of lobbying by special interest groups.

A regulation forbidding motorcycles would make driving more safe, that much is certain. But it would also destroy thousands of jobs in all those businesses that produce motorcycles, the parts for motorcycles, those that sell them, those that repair them. It would also affect the helmet industry, the cycling-wear industry... Always every part from the farmer that can't sell his cow hides any more to the retailer's cleaning woman.

Sure. Some motorcyclists would buy a car instead, not having owned one before. They would also have to rent a parking space in the city, not being able to park where they did so far. But those few extra sales would never make good all those jobs that were destroyed before. Also, not everyone could afford the higher tolls, parking costs, insurance costs...

It's the classic broken window fallancy.

While you know my political pov, you can certainly discuss about the industries and the extent of regulations. But please don't say: regulations have no imapct on the job market!

I have no plans as of today of investing one penny in a new business in the near future. None. I'll sit on what assets are not taken away from me. WHY? When I'll be rewarded by having even more taken way from me? No one can force me to invest . Or earn one penny more than I have to to survive. I'll be no mans slave. Period. [:(]

Never read Atlas but it makes sense now. Listen, its a personal choice that you make. Any decision you make is valid by default. I probably wouldnt want to be a business owner either, but I have different reasons for that. And that decision would be equally valid.
