The tanker is confirmed sunk, while 13 Jakes are on the ground losses list.

Little of note in Burma, except that the IJN convoy has left Rangoon and is making good speed south, already 8 hexes away. Now 3 hexes east of Port Blair, they are avoiding our highest concentration of submarine patrol zones. On land our forces at Lashio will attack tomorrow. BTW, 99 fighters at Rangoon and 53 at Moulmein.

A surprise at Truk - a pair of IJN destroyers made an appearance, intentions unclear, and ran into an ASW task force. Nothing but smoke and fury then, but the piper was paid later.

Hummmmm, just curious.  In your last attack on Truk, it showed 3 Allied Div plus tanks and other support units attacking, yet the troop strength of the attackers is only a bit more than 24,000.  3 Divisions should exceed that total.  What am I missing here?  Are you holding some of the units back or is that the actual total attacking?  I guess the infantry elements rather than the support elements are the only elements shown of the units going in the deliberate attack.
 
Trust you will soon have better results.  Is Admiral Wa reinforcing by air?  Have you intercepted any of his Tinas or other flying crates?  Suggest a low sweep at say 8000' if you are not already trying that.  I ask because it appears 41st Reg may be flying in.  Don't remember seeing them.
 
Your battles near Kumming have been very interesting.  My game is just in mid October 1942 and the situation in China is soooo different.  The IJA has not really put a lot of pressure on me there and the Allies have held Rangoon and the Trail the whole game.  Thus the Chinese supply situation is really good.  Within a year, I will be putting a lot of pressure on him there.   Some success has already been achieved in tactical victories and the CH units have grown in size and experience.  So much variety in this game.  The personalities and strategies of the players varies to the point that each game with a different opponent teaches different lessons.  Wa is fairly aggressive, my opponent is much less so.  As a result, I have been able to retake Pt Moresby, the Lae area, Tarawa, part of Thailand and the northern three Kuriles (one retaken by the IJ).  These areas will be good lauching points for future offensives as the bases have had time to grow into potent springboards (except the Kuriles, where he has counterattacked with vigor).
 
We are stock with PDU on.  He has done fairly well in the air with losses on both sides relatively low and about even (about 300 loses for me and 2900 for him).  You have had greater success in the air for sure.  Nonetheless, my 4Es aeem to have put real fear in him and as soon as they start pounding places (like Rabual and Ambon), he seems to withdraw his air and naval forces from the area.

I've only ever had two divisions at a time on Truk, but I am using a total of 4 in rotation, so that might have been confusing. All combat units attack, only the HQ and the two 'shore party' capable units do not. Those two are there strictly to facilitate loading and unloading. A few turns ago we took a bite out of his large type transports at Truk.

AAR update coming in a bit, almost done with the turn. Bloody day over Rangoon, and Lashio is ours!

Our subs hit 3 tankers in the night! Near Truk our CL based covering force (protecting the CVE fleet) found destroyers Hagikaze and Mikazuki, and promptly sank them both.

In China it seems we got reinforcements to the east of Kunming just in time.

The tally was somewhat in our favor, but not to the degree that the Allies need when spending P-47s and Corsairs. Unnamed sources at DAW HQ were quoted in Email News as crediting their development of 'layered CAP' technology. See the day's air losses below.

With our CVEs held back some, 3x Helens made it in to bomb the 2nd USMC Div, but mere annoyance was achieved. The fleet carriers are heading back to Truk to support the upcoming unit rotation. The forces in place will be ready to attack after one more day of rest. The CVE fleet and covering forces will be at Truk tomorrow.

It looks like Enterprise will make San Francisco tomorrow. Transport subs are leaving Manus tonight with the 2nd Fiji Commando Bn to seize Satawal, which scouts as empty for several days now. It will make a good search base. Most of three freshly trained squadrons of attack bombers transferred in to Ponape, and will fly in concert with the ground attack in two days. CVE Natoma Bay is leaving the West Coast for Pearl Harbor. Ambon has >50 bombers and >50 auxiliary aircraft, and only 5 fighters. We are sending 5x squadrons of B-24 from Merauke (maximum range) and 2x from Darwin (normal range) to hit that airfield tomorrow.

Nice that Lashio was cleared.  Very bloody loss for the IJA.  Opening the Trail will eventually help preserve the remanent in China.  Oh that sweet supply that can now begin to be pumped in.  Perhaps the Chinese, like the Firebird, will eventually rise from the ashes and smite their enemies with a mighty blow. 
 
About Truk:  The last attack lists the 3rd NZ Div along with the two Marine divisions and support units.  That gave me the impression that 3 divisions were involved in the assault and thusly caused me to ask the questions about the number of attacking troops.  Is the 3rd NZ Division actually on Truk?
 
Overall, a very good turn for the Allies.  Three tanker losses hurt Admiral Wa.  However, I urge you to watch your fighter pools carefully if you are playing with PDU "on".  As you have seen in other AARs with PDU "on", it is easy for the IJ to deplete your pools, leaving him with air superiority.  Anything less than an Allied 3-1 loss advantage in any given aerial battle is an overall loss to them.  I have learned that aerial "fair fights" are nothing less than self destruction for the Allies.
 
It is an amazing twist of the game system that the Allies are the ones that must use "flying circus" tactics to gain overwhelming local advantage in order to be successful in the air.  With this knowledge, I will be loathe to agree to PDU "on" in future games unless the developers put in place a separate (higher) Allied replacement pool when PDU in "on".

No news in China. The Empire is still moving to infiltrate the Kunming-Tsuyung defensive line and is rotating units for the next attack east of Kunming.

The first obstacle on road to Paoshan is manned by the 11th Infantry Regiment and the 4th Ind Engineer Regiment, those two units identified as they sent semaphore taunts to the aircraft attacking them this day. Our first units will reach them in at least 3 days. The infantry divisions will be several days behind the tanks.

Three of the four Chinese infantry units at Paoshan are going to make a river-crossing assault on the two units across from them. Those units scout as having much less strength than the first obstacle, and having our troops in that hex will stop enemy units from retreating to there. Dive bombers will start hitting those defenders tomorrow and perhaps they will be identified.

The raids on Ambon went very well. See the air losses below for the ground losses inflicted for the loss of 3x B-24D1. Ambon now scouts at 39% airfield damage.

One more day of rest for the troops at Truk. The 3rd USMC will arrive at Truk the day after tomorrow, the same day of the attack. No time will be wasted, as the 3rd will go ashore and another unit rotate out the day following the attack. We've also taken the opportunity to collect the various arriving and rearming heavy cruisers, so there will be 4 of them available to support the assault.

A newly deployed P-38H squadron has moved into Paoshan to LRCAP Tsuyung. Helens have been bombing there daily with no escort or light escort. There is still 1 enemy unit at Tsuyung itself, but there are now 2 in the hex to the east (up from 1), and more streaming along the road. The Chinese units attacking west from Paoshan will cross in two days, so more air support has transferred to their objective. That objective is still identified as two units, one being regiment-sized, but the number of troops scouted has grown from ~1,600 to ~4,200.

The new seaplane base at Satawal provides coverage of the lower Marianas. 2x AVD are on their way, meanwhile 12x cats have moved in and begin flying tomorrow.

The attack at Truk went well. The troops are in decent shape but not ready to attack right away. The 2nd USMC Div will come off in favor of the 3rd USMC Div rotating in. The 4x CA TF should be back from rearming in time to support the next attack. Attack bombers flying out of Ponape took it on the chin, losing 11 to flak today. 9 were B-25D1 and 2 were B-25G. They will stand down until the next attack.

Sarmi has built a port and is about 2 days from building a fighter strip. An LST convoy will hover near Hollandia (losing only one day) to take advantage of on-site CAP before dropping off its supply load at Sarmi.

The fleet carriers are currently unspotted, but the BB escort was spotted yesterday heading toward Truk with the carriers, so odds are that DAW HQ knows the fleet carriers' whereabouts.

Tomorrow Chinese forces will cross the river west of Paoshan as their part of trying to open the upper part of the Burma Road. At the same time both Allied tank units will arrive in the adjacent hex, 'obstacle 1'.

There was no ambush of IJ bombers over Tsuyung as there was no raid. But an unescorted flight of Judies was intercepted east of Kunming by the Tsuyung LRCAP force! 8 were taken, and one pilot accounted for 5 of them.

The troop rotation has taken place at Truk, but the landing was harder on the 3rd USMC Div than expected. They will get the planned one day of rest before attacking, which will also give the bombardment TF time to get in place.

CV Bunker Hill has arrived at Balboa and is making for the front.

While the unloading at Truk was a little hard on the troops and CD gunfire was intense, we lost no ships and these are the worst damaged. BTW we also landed extra supply along with the troops.

That dastardly Admiral Wa destroyed most of the BBs at Pearl Harbor and at least one more at sea. I have 3 of them repairing on the west coast right now and another just about to refuel at Pearl before heading for the States. The only operational old BB is at Kavieng, just down to 20 sys damage. I want to get it lower and have it help with the Marianas Islands invasions.

I have 5x fast BB with the carriers, and a sixth one (Alabama, I think) is just nearing the front. I am thinking about detaching up to three of them to form a stout bombardment TF. The bombardment group on its way back to Truk is 4x CA, and another 2x CA have just refueled at Nauru to join the party. There are 3x CA repairing at Kavieng. Two are technically ready enough, but if I can do without them they will have more staying power for bombarding the Marianas. Then there are 3 more CA repairing at Pearl Harbor that will be ready within 2 weeks.

The bad news is that all the fast BBs are in want of their summer '43 upgrades. Those will have to wait until the Marianas campaign is over. Soon it will be time for most or all of the USN fleet carriers to get their October '43 upgrades, but at least those are quick to perform.

As far as fronts go, here is the run down.

1) Truk->Marianas: very active. Forces prepping for Siapan, Guam, and Tinian. Other forces prepping for Woleai, Yap, and Baeldaob.
2) Burma: stagnant and awaiting supply buildup in the south.
2A) Burma: open the northern Burma Road, very active.
3) China: when the upper Burma Road is open much supply should be pulled in from Burma. That will mipact Burma and China. Several Allied units will move into China to help repel the Imperial efforts to destroy the remaining major portion of the Chinese Army. In addition, they will try to push back the Japanese and free the large (and vastly over stacked) Chinese Army in Chungking.
4) Northern New Guinea Coast: Advancing slowly. Forces are prepping for Biak and some other bases. Vast movements of support troops and staging of combat troops into bases in this region as the infrastructure is built up to support this and the Marianas offensives.
5) Southern New Guinea Coast: pending, with many forces prepared. Awaiting carrier support for the next phase of advance. This axis will join with the northern coastal advance and proceed into the Spice Islands.
6) Sinabang, etc.: pending. Awaiting further preparation of troops. Another African division has arrived at Moulein that can support operations in this area.

16x Zeros, 9x Kates, and 2x Jills show up as ground losses.

The P-38 group at Paoshan made several intercepts of strikes near Kunming and shot down several aircraft. This was despite being LRCAP to Tsuyung, 3 hexes away and the group being set to range 3 hexes. I guess a commander with 70 aggression will do that! As the Allied armor did arrive to the west, these troops could not retreat on the road and instead retreated one hex SW and are now seen moving east. One of the Chinese units is moving west to open the road for supply.
